Letter Indicates US Paid Ransom For Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl

From Bill Gertz over at the Washington Times:

Pentagon got duped, made ransom payment for Bowe Bergdahl to con man

By Bill Gertz | November 19, 2014

The Pentagon is under fire for making a ransom payment to an Afghan earlier this year as part of a failed bid to win the release of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, according to U.S. officials…

The ransom payment was first disclosed by Rep. Duncan Hunter in a Nov. 5 letter to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. Mr. Hunter stated in the letter that Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) made the payment covertly as part of a release deal. But the money was stolen by the Afghan intermediary claiming to represent the Haqqani terrorist network.

Once again, this is news uncovered by House Republicans.

HHS Inflated (Lied About) Obama-Care Sign Up Numbers

From Bloomberg:

Obamacare Sign-Ups Were Inflated With Dental Plans

By Alex Wayne | November 20, 2014

… The Obama administration said it erroneously calculated the number of people with health coverage under the Affordable Care Act, incorrectly adding 380,000 dental subscribers to raise the total above 7 million.

Funny how this only came out after the elections were safely over.

The accurate number with full health-care plans is 6.7 million as of Oct. 15, a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services confirmed today, saying the U.S. won’t include dental plans in future reports.

And never mind that we were actually told that the number of sign-ups was over 8 million. Someday in the future, Jonathan Gruber is going to have a good laugh about this lie, too.

ICE Readies For Spring Surge, Mexico To Charge For Entry

From the Washington Examiner:

ICE readies 2,400 beds for new spring surge of illegal immigrants through Texas

By Paul Bedard | November 20, 2014

The Obama administration is bracing for another surge of illegal immigrants next spring, bringing online a family detention center that will have 2,400 beds.

“We must be prepared for traditional, seasonal increases in illegal migration. The Dilley facility will provide invaluable surge capacity should apprehensions of adults with children once again surge this spring,” said Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Thomas S. Winkowski.

Yeah, the surge will be all due to the seasons. It won’t have anything to do with Obama’s amnesty.

In advance of the president’s new pro-immigrant announcement set for Thursday night, ICE is readying its strategy for next year when over 100,000 illegals are expected to flood over the U.S.-Mexico border.

WP: GOP = Own Worst Enemy When It Comes To Amnesty

From a deeply concerned Washington Post:

Republicans confront own worst enemy on immigration

By Robert Costa | November 20, 2014

Just two weeks ago, Republicans handed President Obama a humiliating defeat at the polls, winning full control of Congress. But already, party leaders fear that the conservative uproar over the president’s immigration actions will doom any hopes for a stable period of GOP governance…

Isn’t stopped the destruction of the Constitution ‘governance’? Isn’t protecting our nation’s culture and economy ‘governance’?

Despite expanded powers and some new titles, soon-to-be Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) remain sharply limited in their ability to persuade their most conservative members. The duo has been thrust back into the same cycle of intraparty warfare that has largely defined the GOP during the Obama years and that has hurt the party’s brand among the broader electorate.

NYT: GOP Pollsters Fear Hard-Liners Will Alienate Latinos

From a deeply concerned New York Times:

Some in G.O.P. Fear That Their Hard-Liners Will Alienate Latino Voters

By JACKIE CALMES | November 20, 2014

WASHINGTON — All but drowned out by Republicans’ clamorous opposition to President Obama’s executive action on immigration are some leaders who worry that their party could alienate the fastest-growing group of voters, for 2016 and beyond, if its hottest heads become its face…

“Both the president and the Republican Party confront risks here,” said Bill McInturff, a Republican pollster. While the danger for Mr. Obama is “being perceived as overstepping his boundaries,” Mr. McInturff said, “the Republicans’ risk is opposing his action without an appropriate tenor, and thereby alienating the Latino community.”

How the two parties manage their respective risks as they battle for public opinion is likely to define the final two years of Mr.

2 Dems Uneasy At Obama’s Amnesty, Hillary Supports It

From Reuters:

Some Senate Democrats balk at Obama’s unilateral immigration approach

By Susan Cornwell | November 19, 2014

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Several Democratic senators are uncomfortable with President Barack Obama’s decision to use executive action to make immigration reform, raising the possibility of open, bipartisan resistance to his plan.

Despite the headline, Reuters was only able to find two Democrats who were even mildly critical of Obama’s illegal and un-Constitutional act. Which tells you all you need to know about the current state of the Democrat Party.

The senators, most from conservative states, objected to Obama’s unilateral approach, saying on Wednesday that they preferred Congress to take the lead with legislation…

So only Democrat Senators from conservative states care about the Constitution? Care about maintaining the power of their own branch of government?

Pelosi: Emancipation Proclamation Was Executive Order

From the National Journal:

Pelosi Compares Obama Immigration Order to Emancipation Proclamation

The Democratic leader accuses GOP foes of having very short memories when it comes to executive action.

By Billy House | November 20, 2014

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is drawing a parallel between President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation and President Obama’s planned executive actions on immigration reform. "Does the public know the Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order?" Pelosi asked at a news conference Thursday morning…

But on Thursday, Pelosi elevated her argument [sic] a novel step—reminding listeners that Lincoln’s 1863 Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order. It declared "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free."

Once again Ms. Pelosi demonstrates her abject ignorance of all things past and present.

Reaction To Obama Immigration (Amnesty) Plan (Order)

From the Associated Press:

Reaction to the president’s immigration plan

November 20, 2014    

"I think the president will come to regret the chapter history writes if he does move forward. Because the plan he’s presenting is more than just, as the president himself has acknowledged, an overreach — it’s also unfair." — Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

What strong words. (Not.) By the way, why do the AP and the rest of the news media and even some Republicans call this a "plan" or "Obama’s proposal." It’s an order from on high.

"The president’s decision is not a political victory. It’s a victory for families. We know well that this decision is not a permanent solution. It is a first step. If we had it our way, President Obama would be signing a comprehensive immigration bill into law instead of an executive action, but can’t sit idly by waiting for Republicans to act while homes are being broken up all across this nation." — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

Black Leaders Praise Amnesty That Will Hurt Black Jobs

From Breitbart:

Elite Black Leaders Praise Obama Exec Amnesty that Will Hurt Black Workers

By Tony Lee | November 20, 2014

… At the National Press Club, NAACP President Cornell William Brooks said he applauded Obama for his executive amnesty, saying amnesty is not only about the "economic status of workers" but also about "compassion." …

Where is the compassion for American citizens, who are now going to have a harder time finding work?? Where is the compassion for the American taxpayer, who is now going to have to pay higher taxes to feed, house and educate and medically treat five million more people?

Janai Nelson, of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund… said Obama’s executive amnesty will help the "living wage debate" and benefit African-American workers by paving "the way for a more just economic system that will assist various marginalized communities." …

"A more just economic system" = more welfare.

Obama Met Sharpton, Trumka, La Raza Before Speech

From The Hill:

Obama huddles with civil rights leaders

By Justin Sink | November 20, 2014

President Obama met with more than a dozen prominent civil and immigration rights activists Thursday ahead of his speech debuting a series of new steps that will extend deportation relief and work permits to as many as 5 million illegal immigrants.

Attendees at the meeting included AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka, NAACP president Cornell Brooks and Al Sharpton.

How long will it be before blacks realize that the NAACP and Sharpton have sold them down the river? How long will it be before the rank and file of the AFL-CIO realize that they too have been double crossed?

The MSNBC host has come under fire in recent days after The New York Times reported he and his companies were at one point subject to $4.5 million in state and federal tax liens.

Obama Partied With Laywer For His Illegal Alien Relatives

From a beaming New York Times:

At Holiday Party, Obama Encounters a Guest With Family Ties

By Jason Horowitz | November 20, 2014

At a holiday party last night at the White House for President Obama’s donors and supporters, Margaret Wong congratulated the president on his decision to protect millions of undocumented immigrants from deportation with executive action.

Ms. Wong, a leading immigration lawyer in Cleveland, has some experience dealing with the Obama family and immigration. She represented Zeituni Onyango, the woman Mr. Obama once called Auntie, and his uncle Onyango Obama, known as Omar, who moved to Boston as a young man and went on to live there undocumented for decades.

For some odd reason the NYT neglects to mention that both Aunt Zeituni and Uncle Omar had ignored numerous deportation orders issued by judges.

AP Fact Check On Obama’s Amnesty Omits Several Facts

From the Associated Press:

FACT CHECK: Obama’s claims on illegal immigration

By ALICIA A. CALDWELL and ERICA WERNER | November 21, 2014

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama made some notable omissions in his remarks about the unilateral actions he’s taking on immigration.

And never mind that the AP is going to go on to omit any discussion of some of Obama’s biggest lies.

A look at his statements Thursday and how they compare with the facts:

OBAMA: "It does not grant citizenship, or the right to stay here permanently, or offer the same benefits that citizens receive. Only Congress can do that. All we’re saying is we’re not going to deport you."

THE FACTS: He’s saying, and doing, more than that. The changes also will make those covered eligible for work permits, allowing them to be employed in the country legally and compete with citizens and legal residents for better-paying jobs.

Obama Unveils (Orders) Immigration Reform (Amnesty)

[What exactly has been ‘reformed’? All Obama did was break our immigration system even more. After all, our system is only broken because we have stopped enforcing our immigration laws. And Obama has been the biggest offender of them all.]

From Reuters:

Obama unveils U.S. immigration reform, setting up fight with Republicans

By Steve Holland and Roberta Rampton | November 20, 2014

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama imposed [sic] the most sweeping immigration reform in a generation on Thursday, easing the threat of deportation for some 4.7 million undocumented immigrants and setting up a clash with Republicans who vow to fight his moves.

What exactly has been ‘reformed’? All Obama did was break our immigration system even more. After all, our system is only broken because we have stopped enforcing our immigration laws.

Berkley OKs Gas Warning, Green Churches Get Tax Break

First there is this from a cherring Associated Press:

City OKs plan for gas-pump climate change labels

By KRISTIN J. BENDER | November 19, 2014

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) — … The Berkeley City Council voted late Tuesday to draft a proposal by next spring that will put stickers on gas pumps citywide to warn consumers that burning fuel contributes to global warming.

San Francisco is drafting a similar ordinance that the city’s Board of Supervisors could vote into law by March. The proposals in the liberal Bay Area cities are thought to be the first of their kind in the U.S.

Supporters of Berkeley’s measure hope that simply putting the labels in front of consumers will motivate them to drive less. One environmental group compares the labels to health warnings on cigarette packages.
