Ginsburg: Male Justices Didn’t Understand Hobby Lobby

From Mediaite:

Ruth Bader Ginsburg: Male Justices Didn’t Really Understand Hobby Lobby

By Matt Wilstein | July 31, 2014

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg … sat down for an extended interview with Yahoo News’ [perky] Katie Couric to explain why she found the [Hobby Lobby] decision so damaging.

“Contraceptive protection is something that every woman must have access to in order to control her own destiny,” Ginsburg told Couric. While she said she “respects the belief” of the Hobby Lobby owners, she added, “they have no constitutional right to force that belief on the hundreds and hundreds of women who work them who don’t share that belief.”

How does anyone force their belief on someone else by not buying them something?

“Do you believe that the five male justices truly understood the ramifications of their decision?” Couric asked later in the interview of the men who made up the majority.

Illegal Alien Is Accused Of Killing Chinese Student In CA

From the Los Angeles Times:

Suspect in fatal USC attack entered country illegally, feds say

By Kate Mather, Richard Winton | July 31, 2014

A 19-year-old charged with murder in connection with last week’s fatal assault on a USC graduate student told immigration officials that he entered the country illegally about seven years ago, a federal official said.

Wonder if he was ever detained by ICE and let go. Even though he may have had a criminal record. Of course we will never know.

The official, who was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter, said Jonathan DelCarmen made the comments during an interview at a Los Angeles County jail where he is being held in connection with the death of Xinran Ji, 24.

Shocker: Violent Attacks On Border Patrol Are Increasing

From Fox News:

Report reveals ‘disturbing trend’ of brazen attacks against border security by gangs, drug and human traffickers

By Jana Winter | July 31, 2014

EXCLUSIVE: A game warden hit in the head with a rock while trying to seize a raft. Police officers wounded in an hours-long standoff with a gang member wanted for murder. Criminals spewing obscenities and death threats at local cops before asking for – and receiving – medical treatment. And that was just last week.

A weekly report distributed by a Texas state agency to senior law enforcement officials paints a grim picture of the Mexican border…

The most recent Border Operations Sector Assessment report compiled by the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Border Security Operations Center, dated July 25 and obtained by FoxNews.com, details local and federal authorities encountering smugglers carrying millions of dollars’ worth of marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine, some of which was found in vehicles filled with biblical passages and religious items; federal agents being assaulted and shot at; gang members brazenly approaching people in their homes; and ranch workers witnessing men crossing into the U.S.

CO DMV Not Passing Out Licenses Fast Enough For ACLU

From Bloomberg:

Colorado Overwhelmed by Immigrant License Requests

By Jennifer Oldham | July 31, 2014

Undocumented immigrants in Colorado may face waits of a year or more to obtain drivers licenses under a program starting tomorrow, as thousands seeking to apply overwhelm an online scheduling system and available staff.  When the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles started accepting appointments from foreign nationals online July 1, it received as many as 107,500 page views an hour, crashing the system for several days. The DMV expects to process 9,551 applicants through September.

Note that the point of this article is not that it is outrageous that so many illegal aliens are getting drivers licenses. No, the outrage is that there is such a demand that some illegals may have to wait for their license.

Illegals Get All You Can Eat Buffet, Cable TV, Doctors, Jobs

From the NBC Austin, TX affiliate, KXAN:

Karnes immigrant detention center softens its image

By Chris Sadeghi | July 31, 2014

KARNES CITY, Texas (KXAN) — A 29-acre facility which previously housed male illegal immigrants detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has a makeover and a new purpose. The building nearly 100 miles south of Austin in Karnes City, Texas will now be the temporary home for immigrant women and children detained at the border. It will also be a much more family friendly environment…

Previously, the people being held at the facility were called detainees. Now they will be called residents. Guards are now called resident advisors. Even the facility itself will be referred to as a resident center rather than a detention center…

The amenities do not stop [there].

Tuberculosis, Scabies Spreading In UAC Holding Centers

From the Daily Caller:

DHS Report: Tuberculosis And Scabies Spreading In Migrant Holding Facilities

By Scott Greer | July 31, 2014

The Department of Homeland Security’s report on the facilities housing the recent flood of “unaccompanied alien children” (UAC) from Central America describes conditions where diseases such as tuberculosis (TB) and scabies are spreading, and staff are being exposed to human waste.

The report lists off the types of diseases that are becoming prevalent in the facilities and that are requiring treatment. They include “respiratory illnesses, chicken pox, tuberculosis, and scabies.” These diseases have also spread to several DHS employees working at the locations, the report states.

Clearly, the Department of Homeland Security is fear mongering again. The disease-phobic racists.

The report also includes notes that these facilities are now in unsanitary condition due to “UAC and family unit illnesses and unfamiliarity with bathroom facilities” and these conditions have resulted in staff members and migrants being exposed to human waste.

Bill Clinton On 9/10: I Could Have Killed Osama Bin Laden

From The New York Daily News:

Bill Clinton: I could have killed Osama bin Laden but didn’t

By Adam Edelman | Thursday, July 31, 2014
Just hours before the 9/11 terror attacks, Bill Clinton told a group of Australian businessmen that he passed on a chance to kill Osama Bin Laden, according to a revelation by an Australian media outlet…

“I’m just saying, you know, if I were Osama Bin Laden — he’s a very smart guy, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about him — and I nearly got him once,” Clinton says on the recording of his speech. “I nearly got him. And I could have killed him, but I would have to destroy a little town called Kandahar in Afghanistan and kill 300 innocent women and children, and then I would have been no better than him.

WH Medevac Of Two Ebola Cases To US Causes Silly Fears

From CBS News:

White House Looking Into Medevac Options To Bring 2 American Aid Workers Diagnosed With Ebola Back To US

July 31, 2014

NEW YORK (CBSDC/AP) — …. At the White House, press secretary Josh Earnest said the U.S. is looking into Medevac options to bring two American aid workers diagnosed with Ebola back to the U.S. While the U.S. government would facilitate the response, private companies would be used.

A statement from Samaritan’s Purse on Wednesday said Nancy Writebol and Dr. Kent Brantly both remain in serious condition. Writebol is a missionary with SIM. Brantly is a doctor from Texas working for Samaritan’s Purse…

Although the CDC has concluded it’s unlikely Ebola would spread if detected in the U.S, Earnest said the CDC is alerting health care workers in the U.S.

AP: Ebola Outbreak To Cast Shadow Over Obama Summit

From a deeply concerned Associated Press:

Ebola outbreak to cast shadow over Obama summit

By JULIE PACE July 31, 2014

WASHINGTON (AP) — Leaders from nations gripped by an Ebola outbreak are pulling out of President Barack Obama’s gathering of African leaders in Washington next week, though the White House says the health crisis won’t impact the three-day summit…

The outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus threatened to cast a shadow over a summit that the White House has billed a historic gathering of African leaders in the U.S. capital.

Nearly 50 leaders were scheduled to attend the talks on boosting U.S. business investment in Africa, regional security and supporting the next generation of African leaders…

It is always about Obama. Let’s hope this outbreak does force Obama to pull out of his scheduled fundraisers or change any of his tee times.

Stocks Lose All 2014 Gains (Obama Needs A New Legacy)

From a seemingly unfazed Reuters:

Stocks Tumble, Dow Down 220 Points, Company Earnings Disappoint

July 31 2014

(Reuters) — U.S. stocks slumped in a broad decline Thursday, with the Dow and the S&P 500 turning negative for July on concerns over the strength of overseas economies and continuing tensions with Russia.

So there are new ‘headwinds.’ Problems with the economies overseas and tensions with Russia. There’s always something, isn’t there? (In reality, this decline is probably mostly due to the Fed’s signal that it is going to stop pumping billions of dollars a month into the stock market.)

But, as usual under Obama, Reuters is trying to sugarcoat this. In fact, the stock market has lost all of the gains it had made so far this year.

Illegals Processing Center Locked Down For Chicken Pox

From the Washington Times:

Chicken pox outbreak puts illegal immigrant facility on lockdown

By Stephen Dinan | July 30, 2014

The federal government’s new facility to house illegal immigrant families surging across the border has been put on lockdown because of chicken pox, with no immigrants allowed to be transferred in or out, a congressman said this week.

How racist of them! But how could such an outbreak happen after all the careful monitoring of the health of these illegal aliens we have been told about?

Hundreds of illegal immigrants being kept at the campus of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, New Mexico, are being treated for and vaccinated against chicken pox after an outbreak, said Rep. Steve Pearce, the Republican congressman whose district includes Artesia.

Networks Skipped -2.9% Growth, Eagerly Cover 4% GDP

From the Media Research Center:

Networks That Ignored Bad GDP News, Eagerly Cover ‘Good News’

ABC, NBC skipped first quarter drop and downward revisions, but happy to report growth.

Julia A. Seymour | 7/31/2014

All three broadcast network evening shows reported the higher than expected 4 percent gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate for the second quarter on July 30. However, ABC and NBC evening shows previously skipped the three prior GDP announcements that showed the economy shrinking in the first quarter.

ABC and NBC evening news programs ignored the Commerce Department’s announcement of negative 0.1 percent GDP growth on April 30 and the revision to negative 1.0 percent growth on May 29.

Again, on June 25 when the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) said the economy actually shrank by 2.9 percent in Q1, both “World News” and “Nightly News” remained silent.

Immigration Obama’s Worst Issue, He Pivots To Economy

From the Washington Post:

Immigration is now President Obama’s worst issue

By Aaron Blake | July 31, 2014

Immigration has emerged as perhaps President Obama’s worst issue — definitely for today, and maybe of his entire presidency — when it comes to public perception.

Wow, worse than his handling of foreign affairs? Worse than his handling of the economy? Worse than the handling of his myriad scandals? Worse than his handling of Obama-Care? That is really going some.

A new poll from AP-GfK shows more than two-thirds of Americans (68 percent) disapprove of Obama’s handling of the immigration issue in general. Just 31 percent approve — down from 38 percent two months ago…

We tried to find an issue on which Obama has earned such poor marks, at any point in his presidency.
