Ex Male Stripper Runs For Lt. Gov; Grayson’s Wife On EBT

First from the Washington Free Beacon:

Democrat Running for Lt. Governor of Arkansas Used to be Male Stripper

By Elizabeth Harrington | October 29, 2014

Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor in Arkansas John Burkhalter said being a male stripper in Little Rock was one of the many “tough jobs” he had in his past.

“I did have that job for a while, a very short time,” Burkhalter told Larry Henry in an interview for 5NEWS, a CBS affiliate in Arkansas. He was asked about being portrayed as a candidate with a “different background, from Chippendales dancer to multi-millionaire.” “It was when I was in Little Rock,” Burkhalter said. “I’ve always been an athlete, and I was actually buying cows from a farm.” …

Did he buy cattle futures, too?

Election May Tip Historic Number Of Legislatures To GOP

From the Washington Post, of all places:

Election could tip historic number of legislatures into Republican hands

By Reid Wilson | October 29, 2014

The GOP is poised to add to its unprecedented state House advantage. Republicans have the opportunity to take control of a record number of state legislative chambers across the country this year, as Democrats play defense in unfavorable terrain.

The Republican landslide in 2010 and the subsequent redistricting process in 2012 gave the GOP control of a nearly unprecedented number of legislative chambers.

See? The terrain is unfavorable because of evil Republican gerrymandering.

Today, the party controls 59 of the 98 partisan chambers in 49 states, while Democrats control only 39 chambers. Once election results are tabulated in the 6,049 legislative races on the ballot in 46 states this year, Republicans could find themselves running even more…

So what?

Democrats Rush To Save Incumbents – In Liberal States

From the Associated Press:

Dems rush to save suddenly vulnerable incumbents

By DONNA CASSATA | October 29, 2014

WASHINGTON (AP) — Desperate Democrats are rushing to save suddenly vulnerable House incumbents, even in states where President Barack Obama cruised to double-digit victories, amid fresh signs of Republican momentum less than a week before the midterm elections.

The once friendly terrain of New York, California, Obama’s native state of Hawaii and adopted state of Illinois all now pose stiff challenges to Democrats who are determined to limit their losses next Tuesday…

The most liberal states in the union. Go figure.

In one sign of Democratic concern, Vice President Joe Biden was heading to Massachusetts on Wednesday for a rally with Seth Moulton, who is trying to hold onto a Democratic seat against Republican Richard Tisei.

NYT: Polls Have Been Undercounting Democrats For Years

From the New York Times:

Why Polls Tend to Undercount Democrats

By Nate Cohn | October 30, 2014

Polls show that the Republicans have an advantage in the fight for control of the Senate. They lead in enough states to win control, and they have additional opportunities in North Carolina and New Hampshire to make up for potential upsets. As Election Day nears, Democratic hopes increasingly hinge on the possibility that the polls will simply prove wrong. But that possibility is not far-fetched. The polls have generally underestimated Democrats in recent years, and there are reasons to think it could happen again.

In 2010, the polls underestimated the Democrats in every competitive Senate race by an average of 3.1 percentage points, based on data from The Huffington Post’s Pollster model.

Foreign Diplomats Are Eligible For Obama-Care Subsidies

From the Daily Beast, of all places:

Obamacare Covers Foreign Diplomats

By Tim Mak | October 29, 2014

Two House committees are demanding answers after learning that the Affordable Care Act makes foreign diplomats eligible for health care subsidies. Obamacare has a loophole that allows foreign diplomats to receive healthcare subsidies, the House Ways and Means and Foreign Affairs Committees revealed Wednesday as they announced a joint investigation.

Why assume it’s a "loophole"?

“According to the Department of Health and Human Services, foreign diplomats holding ‘A’ or ‘G’ visas are eligible to participate in an array of medical programs administered by the federal government, including participation in Health Insurance Marketplaces governed by the Affordable Care Act (ACA),” wrote chairmen Ed Royce and Dave Camp in a letter to to IRS Commissioner John Koskinen.

WH Will Not Investigate ‘Netanyahu Chickens***’ Insult

From The Hill:

WH not investigating ‘chickens—‘ remark

By Justin Sink | October 29, 2014

The Obama administration is not conducting an investigation to identify the senior official who called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "chickenshit," despite criticism from both Republicans and Democrats.

It seems like only yesterday that Joe Biden slipped up and actually told the truth about how Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the UAE have been funding terrorist groups. (He could have added Qatar.) And Biden was forced to call those countries and apologize.

But a ‘senior official’ in the White House insults our closest ally in the Middle East, and it’s ‘forget about it.’ They won’t even pretend to investigate. What does that tell you about Obama’s regard for Israel?

HHS: No Enterovirus Cases Among 68,541 Alien Children

From CNS News:

HHS: No Reported Cases of Enterovirus Among 68,541 Unaccompanied Illegal Minors

By Melanie Hunter | October 29, 2014

(CNSNews.com) – Of the 68,541 unaccompanied illegal alien children who entered the U.S. in fiscal year 2014, none were reported to have the enterovirus, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. CNSNews.com asked, “Just to clarify, you’re saying that none of the unaccompanied minors who have entered the U.S. had the enterovirus?”

“There were none reported to the Office of Refugee Resettlement,” Kenneth Wolfe, spokesman for the Administration of Children and Families for the Department of Health and Human Services, told CNSNews.com in an emailed response…

And never mind that there is a world of difference between claiming none of these illegal alien kids had enterovirus, and saying no cases have been "reported to the Office of Refugee Resettlement."

In fact, why would a doctor think to report any cases to that office?

80% Want Ebola Quarantines, 70% Want Travel Banned

From a tone deaf Washington Post:

Poll: 80 percent want Ebola quarantines

By Aaron Blake | October 29, 2014

President Obama is doing reasonably well on this whole Ebola thing — at least on the public relations front —

What is the WP smoking? Obama is currently at his lowest approval rating ever. His handling of Ebola high on the list of complaints against him. Even Saturday Night Live is mocking his handling of Ebola.

[B]ut another new poll suggests Americans want him to take actions that he has resisted so far. The poll, from CBS News, shows a whopping 80 percent of people want American citizens and legal residents returning from West Africa to be quarantined until it is determined that they are Ebola-free…

Notice that they are not talking about quarantining health workers who have had direct contact with Ebola patients.

‘No Theater’ Obama Shakes Hands With Ebola Workers

From the UK’s Daily Mail:

Trust me, it’s safe! Obama tries to calm Ebola quarantine fears with handshakes for health care workers still in 21-day at-risk period after Africa visit

By David Martosko | 29 October 2014

Barack Obama made a point of shaking hands with every one of the medical workers gathered for a White House photo-op today as he hailed the work of Ebola-exposed health care professionals…

Didn’t Obama say back in September that he didn’t do theater, didn’t do photo ops? (Back when people were wondering why he wouldn’t go to the border.) And yet last week he hugged Nurse Nina Pham for the photographers, and now we have this.

Obama said he was ‘a little frustrated’ by ‘people talking about American leadership’ but then ‘running in the opposite direction and hiding under the covers’ when Ebola emerges – an apparent dig at New Jersey’s Governor Chris Christie.

Showdown Imminent Over Nurse’s Quarantine In Maine

From a breathless Associated Press:

Showdown imminent over nurse’s quarantine in Maine

By ROBERT F. BUKATY | October 30, 2014

FORT KENT, Maine (AP) — State police plan to monitor the movements and interactions of a nurse who vowed to defy the state’s quarantine for health care workers who treat Ebola patients, but troopers cannot take her into custody without a judge’s permission. State officials were seeking a court order to detain Kaci Hickox for the remainder of the 21-day incubation period for Ebola that ends on Nov. 10.

Hickox contends there’s no need for quarantine because she’s showing no symptoms, and she made her point by stepping outside her home briefly Wednesday night to talk to reporters, even shaking one reporter’s hand. Police watched from across the street.

MD Probes Republican-To-Democrat Ballot Switch Claims

From the CBS Baltimore affiliate, WJZ:

Md. Board of Elections Probe Republican-To-Democratic Ballot Switch Claims

October 28, 2014

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ)—Early voting just started last week in Maryland, but there are already accusations that some voting machines are changing Republican votes to Democrat. Now Republicans are calling for an investigation by the State Board of Elections.

As Marylanders go to the polls, there are concerns that the vote you cast may not be for the candidate you want.

“We’ve heard from scores of citizens in our district and around the state who have had this problem where they hit one button to vote for one person, and when they go to the summary they see that the other person was checked,” said Del Nik Kipke, (R) Anne Arundel County.

(Russian) Hackers Breach Some White House Computers

From the Washington Post:

Hackers breach some White House computers

By Ellen Nakashima | October 28, 2014

Hackers thought to be working for the Russian government breached the unclassified White House computer networks in recent weeks, sources said, resulting in temporary disruptions to some services while cybersecurity teams worked to contain the intrusion.

With Obama in the White House, why bother? Hasn’t he already given them all of our missile secrets? — Oh, wait, these were unclassified networks. So they were just going after credit card numbers.

White House officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation, said that the intruders did not damage any of the systems and that, to date, there is no evidence the classified network was hacked…

The FBI, Secret Service and National Security Agency are all involved in the investigation.

AP Fails To Notice People Walking Out On Obama (Again)

From a selectively reporting Associated Press:

Obama rallies for Dem seeking to oust Scott Walker

By JOSH LEDERMAN | October 28, 2014

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Rallying the party faithful, President Barack Obama cast Republican Gov. Scott Walker on Tuesday as an outdated Republican holding back Wisconsin’s economy as he launched a final, weeklong campaign push for Democrats. At a packed gymnasium, Obama held up Democrat Mary Burke as a skilled businesswoman who will fight for the type of middle-class opportunity that made his own success possible…

"A packed gymnasium"? According to the pool reporter (see article below), as soon as Obama started talking people started walking out on him again. So his second campaign appearance turned out to be just like his first.

And why not?

NYT: IG Probing SS Prostitution Scandal Used Prostitute

From the New York Times:

Investigator in Secret Service Prostitution Scandal Resigns

By MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT | October 28, 2014

WASHINGTON — The investigator who led the Department of Homeland Security’s internal review of the Secret Service’s 2012 prostitution scandal quietly resigned in August after he was implicated in his own incident involving a prostitute, according to current and former department officials.

Sheriff’s deputies in Broward County, Fla., saw David Nieland, the investigator, entering and leaving a building they had under surveillance as part of a prostitution investigation, according to officials briefed on the investigation. They later interviewed a prostitute who identified Mr. Nieland in a photograph and said he had paid her for sex.

Mr. Nieland resigned after he refused to answer a series of questions from the Department of Homeland Security inspector general about the incident, the [anonymous] officials said.

AP: CDC Has So far Acted Prudently, Klain Is GOP’s Fault

From the Associated Press:

Where’s czar? Ebola raises management questions

By JIM KUHNHENN | October 28, 2014

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama’s commander in the fight against Ebola was expected to operate below the public radar. But did that mean invisible?

Correction. He was expected to be the fall guy for any and all of Obama’s Ebola failures. (Like the song says, ‘Put the blame on Klain, boys.’) And don’t worry, he soon will be, if it is necessary.

Ron Klain has barely been seen, and a week before midterm elections, Obama is pressing to dispel criticism that the government can’t manage the Ebola crisis. The White House’s behind-the-scenes coordination of the Ebola response is being severely tested, while the Pentagon and states like New York and New Jersey take public steps that are far firmer than federal guidelines.
