10K Expected To Line Up For Turkeys In LA

From the Los Angeles CBS affiliate, KCBS:

10,000 Expected To Line Up For Free Turkey Dinners In South LA

November 22, 2011

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Low-income residents and seniors are lining up for free turkey dinners from a local car company.

As many as 10,000 people are expected to show up for the 23 rd Annual Jackson Limousine Service Turkey Dinner Give-Away, which begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Sky2 was overhead Monday night as the line already wrapped around the company’s service fleet yard at 3669 West Slauson Ave.

“It’s a lot of people, a lot of families from all walks of life,” EJ Jackson, founder and president of Jackson Limousine, told CBS2. “You’ll see them. We love them, but that’s what we are here for; to help one another.”

The giveaway includes a turkey and all the dinner fixings, including cornbread, yams and cranberry sauce.

“It is tough ’cause I was in need,” Lashonda Howard said. “I gotta get down here because this is my only hope.”

Because South Los Angeles is a ‘food desert.’

By the way, notice that these turkeys are being given away by a limousine company. A company that services the 1%.

As the old French adage goes, ‘luxury has fed more mouths than charity ever has.’

“a lot of families from all walks of life”

Errr, if you are lining up for handouts, shouldn’t you be from only one walk of life?

    • Mithrandir says:

“From all walks of life.” –that’s just in case you come to any conclusions on your own that LASHONDA Howard from SOUTH CENTRAL LOS ANGELES has a particular segment of people who would actually stand in a line of 10,000 to get 1 stinkin’ bird.
And when the line-cutters start an argument and mini-riot, near the front, the police are inevitably called in and news crews show up and do interviews with frustrated people, “I stood in line for 7 hours and got nothing!” “I got trampled when there was a mad-rush when the turkey truck pulled up.” —you will remember, ” it’s really a tragedy, but these people are from ALL walks of life.” (planting the seeds early here….)

10,000 line up for turkeys (sad really), another reason to thank our dear leader, maybe he can get more “from his stash.”

      There, FIFY

    Is that a real adage?

  3. GetBackJack says:

10,000 OWS expected to demand even more turkey.

  4. Anonymoose says:

One thing I never liked about the holidays is some people not only expected but demand handouts. How many of these people are going to think standing in line is hard work that earned them a turkey?

The Baraqqis have increased the number on food stamps from 31 mil to 46 mil in three years.
In my area in Indiana, food banks are seeing the greatest demand ever.
While the MSM may be working hard to sell the idea of economic recovery, we know better.
