1/2 Of Illegals Use 1 Sector Of AZ Border

From CNS News:

Half of All Illegal Entries Into U.S. in 2010 Came Through One Sector of AZ Border, Says Border Patrol

(CNSNews.com) – Approximately “half of all illegal entries” into the United States and "half of all of the marijuana smuggled into the United States" in fiscal 2010 occurred in the Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector, which takes up only a part of the Arizona-Mexico border, according to U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Commissioner Alan Bersin.

And more than two-thirds of the Tucson Sector itself is under "effective control," according to CBP, which by definition means that the government can "reasonably ensure" that illegal entries are intercepted there.

That leaves, by CBP’s accounting, just a small part of one sector on America’s southern frontier open to a massive influx of illegal aliens and illegal drugs

A Customs and Border Protetion [sic] spokesperson told CNSNews.com that as of Sept. 30 (the last day of fiscal year 2010), the federal government believed it had achieved what it calls "effective control" of 293 miles of the 378-mile-long Arizona-Mexico and that the remaining 85 miles of the Arizona-Mexico border that are not under "effective control" are all in the Tucson Sector.

All 126 miles of the Yuma Sector, including the 10 miles in California and the 116 miles in Arizona, are under "effective control," the spokesperson said…

In his prepared remarks for an Oct. 14 speech at the Migration Policy Institute, CBP Commissioner Alan Bersin publicly acknowledged the lack of border security in the Tucson Sector, but did not spell out that CBP believes it has effectively controlled most of the border miles in that sector, while leaving a gap of only 85 miles.

"Today, the area that remains our greatest challenge is the Tucson Sector," said Bersin. "Approximately half of all illegal entries occur across the 260 miles of border in this Sector, and traffickers believe they can use the inhospitable terrain to evade authorities."

As defined by the Department of Homeland Security, a mile of the border is under “effective control” when the “appropriate mix of personnel, equipment, technology and tactical infrastructure has been deployed to reasonably ensure” that illegal entries are intercepted. ..

According to the CBP, the Tucson Sector is “the busiest Sector in the country in both illegal alien apprehensions and marijuana seizures.” …

In his actual address at the Migration Policy Institute, Berson added that almost half of the marijuana smuggled into the United Stats comes through this same limited area. "Just under half of all of the marijuana smuggled into the United States comes through that same corridor,” said Bersin.

If this is true, we find it hard to believe that the United States government can’t ‘plug the hole.’

Unless they don’t they want to plug the hole.

The ‘patagonia’ of Arizona is one of the most beautiful, blessed, peaceful places on this continent and blessed with a perfect climate. In fact, I can’t think of any other place in America which has such perfect weather.

Of course this means Pure Evil has to invade it. Under Democrat control of the North American continent we can’t have anything nice.

  2. Liberals Demise says:

    Why bother with such stats?
It is Arizona’s fault for existing along the Mexican border and taunting them with toothless threats.

    • dscam says:

Let’s give the AZ National Guard some teeth in the form of predator drones and quick response forces with Blackhawks, then.

    • Liberals Demise says:

That would be excellent but Arizona has DC Jackboots on their throats for even saying they were going to protect themselves. (sans the Federals)

Enter stage left; Eric, Janet, Barack and the rest of the Anti American Movement.

  3. TerryAnne says:

So, in order for them to know this, are they basically just sitting there and counting them as they come across? And then, what?…calling each other to brag about how popular the border crossing they are “guarding” is?

This isn’t something that you can make up or assert without knowing numbers or the like.

  4. Georgfelis says:

In defense of the Border Patrol (I can’t believe I said that), this section of the border has a high degree of “suck”, with national parks, rocky ridges, canyons, very low Civilization content, and vast daily thermal changes. In short, perfect terain for moving drugs and people across.

Add in a couple pliable local agents, plus a giant stack of untraceable bills, plus the drug cartel’s policy of “Lead or Silver” (take the bribe or we kill you) and you get….Arizona. No wonder they want more enforcement power.

    • Liberals Demise says:

Hell, at this juncture I’d give them ‘Use of Deadly Force’ powers and then back them up with U.S. military forces.

The time is now or never!

What is the realistic field of fire for a 50 caliber machine gun? 300 yards? If so, one machine gun can cover 600 yards east and west. 3 can cover a mile. 780 guns cover 260 miles. 4 man crews, 5 crews per position. 15,600 troops. 100K p.a. per troop including equipment. $1,560,000,000 p.a. solves that problem. About $5 per citizen per year. Less than 1/10th of the pork in the latest Omnibus bill. Less than Traitor John Kerry’s fortune. Bill Gates could pay the cost for 50 years.

    • Liberals Demise says:

Snipers in Iraq and Afghanistan are getting kills at distances of over a mile with 50 caliber rifles. (FYI)

    • JohnMG says:

The first time one of these turds is taken out at long range, it won’t be given much credence. When it happens a few consecutive times, it will get someone’s attention. They will move to other areas. When it begins happening no matter where they locate, the effect will be multiplied exponentially.

They ask no quarter–none should be given. The only way to win a street fight is to be the most vicious bastard on the street. This whole scenario will only be settled by patriots. And the species is extinct in the confines of DC.

    • proreason says:

If we have enough qualified snipers, that would be an even better solution. You could do the job with only 130 emplacements.

Of course, as John says, you might not need full coverage, and the crews would have to move around until the targets get the idea that they are goners whever they move their operations.

In any event, it would stop the problem in its tracks.

Ah, memories from a particular Somalian hostage crisis.

  6. One word: landmines.

OK. That’s a bit harsh. How about ‘razorwire.’

    • JohnMG says:

How about land mines AND razor wire? I know, that seems extreme.

Actually,, we have the means–it’s the will to act that’s absent, at least on the part of our elected officials. I’m not advocating for lawlessness, but the solution won’t be found in the halls of governance. Those dweebs are all too squeamish to do what needs doing.

“The price of freedom is eternal vigilance”, and those that we’ve entrusted with our national security are asleep at the switch. To quote a line from the movie The princess Bride; “We are men of action. Lies don’t become us.”

    Perhaps y’all should read this:

It seems that Janet Napolitano has signed a new treaty with Mexico where Mexican citizens can bypass the groping and body scans she seems to have no problem forcing American citizens to go through. It is called the “Trusted Traveler Program” and allows Mexicans to go through background checks (done by the Mexican government), provide biometric information (fingerprints) and be encoded on “Trusted Traveler” cards (issued by the Mexican government) which will allow them to bypass the new stringent TSA groping and body scans.

Mexican Interior Ministry Secretary Jose Francisco Blake Mora also signed the agreement and said that about 84 million Mexicans (out of a population of 106 million) to qualify for what is being called the Global Entry Program.

So while you have to subject your 80 year old mother to being scanned naked or having her private parts groped to travel on a plane, Mexicans will be issued “Trusted Traveler” cards by the [corrupt] Mexican government so that they can just enter our nation without having to worry about the border and all with the blessings of Janet Napolitano.

It ain’t your country anymore, boys and girls.
