The Hopenhagen trip cost an average of $2200 per day for each of the more than 100 people who went boondoggling, including the hairdressers and Nancy's manicurists.

Now, you might say that was an extravagence during the worst economic slump since the Great Depression, with 30 million Americans out of work, with the deficit multiple times higher than it has ever been, with more people on food stamps then ever before, with half a million people every month becoming so discouraged about finding work that they actually drop out of the workforce.....but if you said that you would be one of those cynics we hear about.

Now isn't the time to drop back and go into a shell. Global warming is going to come roaring back in a dedade or so, or perhaps a few hundred years from now. It's inevitable, perhaps. The science writer are absolutely sure, almost. Even the scientists with the best houses agree.

And if we don't bankrupt ourselves so that mental giants like Al Toad can live in regal splendor as they teach us about the possiblel future horrors of this potential menace, then who else is there to bankrupt?

Your tax dollars at work. CBS actually prints some real news...direct from Hopenhagen:

Congress Went to Denmark, You Got the Bill

CBS News Investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports official filings and our own investigation show at least 106 people from the House and Senate attended - spouses, a doctor, a protocol expert and even a photographer...

They're a princely lot, aren't they?
