2 More GIs Killed Since Obama Calmed Things

From an unfazed New York Times:

Two American Soldiers Die in Shooting at Afghan Base

March 1, 2012

KABUL, Afghanistan — Another two United States soldiers were killed in Afghanistan on Thursday when an Afghan soldier in league with a civilian Afghan literacy instructor killed a tower guard and attacked with gunfire and a rocket the barracks where American soldiers were sleeping at a joint base in the south of the country, officials said.

These murderers are so courageous.

The killings follow the shooting deaths of four American soldiers last week and two more Americans at the Afghan Interior Ministry after the outbreak of nationwide protests in reaction to the burning of Korans at a NATO base in Afghanistan.

So we are now up to eight dead Americans? And still no apology from Hamid Karzai or any Afghan officials?

The two shooters fled but American forces called in air support, and the two men were killed by helicopter gunfire more than a mile from the base, said Masoom Khan, the chief of police of the Zhari district in Kandahar Province where the attack took place

And now the locals will protest because a ‘civilian’ was killed.

The base in Kandahar Province is close to the hometown of the Taliban leader Mullah Muhammad Omar, and Mr. Khan said the two men were suspected of having links with the insurgency.

He said the Afghan Army soldier was a platoon leader and had taken part in joint patrols with the Americans. “We believe that both of the attackers had links with the Taliban,” he said…

That can’t be possible. We are negotiating with the insurgency. They want peace. Though, to be fair, the Taliban say peace does not mean an end to fighting.

Maybe they haven’t gotten the news about their new $750,000 dollar soccer field at Guantanamo.

On Wednesday, three investigations were begun into the Koran burning at Bagram Air Base last week

One investigation is by Americans, one is by Afghans and one is a joint Afghan-American inquiry. The formal American military investigation is the only one that can lead to punishment, while the other two will include recommendations but do not carry formal legal weight.

What a circus. And you just know ‘justice will be served.’

Meanwhile, Mr. Obama’s claim that his apology has "calmed things down" is ringing a little hollow.

Obama is sending an Army Reserve Unit unit of Military Police to Afghanistan to train the Afghanistan police. There’s been enough of that. The Afghanistan police have done nothing cowardly, out of no where shot and killed our U.S. military troops training them. One was shot just for drinking a cup of water during Rahmadman holiday. It’s been continuous incidents of the Afghanistan Police opening fire and killing our troops. They are corrupt, constantly high on drugs, and constantly letting Taliban escape, and walking down the road with Taliban prisoners telling them our secrets and then releasing them; as in not even putting them in jail for a day. Once in office Obama caved into Karzai’s demand that Afghanistan handle the prisoners and prisons.

True, I’ve been hearing this over and over. The “allies” we have that once they know the base and security turn around and start shooting. But also, killing a man for drinking a cup of water? Which makes more sense; someone thirsty who drinks water, or a religious “celebration” where absolute conformity must be followed–to the point that murder is somehow justified? I think it shows their ultimate cruelty and falseness; following a doctrine blind to any reason or common sense.

Here’s another National Guard Unit from Michigan that deployed in early 2012

Add a Ft. Carson Colorado Infantry Unit deploying again to Afghanistan.

Not yet a year of thousands of U.S. Soldiers going to Afghanistan, while Obama says it’s a withdraw. Or is this to compensate his suicide for our troops announcement he was withdrawing.

AP: House chairman wants new rules on Afghan security

    Mar 01, 2012

WASHINGTON (AP) – The chairman of the House Armed Services Committee is intent on barring private security contractors and Afghans from guarding U.S. bases in Afghanistan, a move that could complicate President Barack Obama’s timetable for withdrawing American forces after more than a decade of war.

Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, R-Calif., introduced the legislation on Thursday in response to the insider attacks by Afghan security forces against U.S. and other coalition troops. McKeon held a hearing last month in which the military said more than 45 insider attacks have occurred since 2007 – 75 percent in the past two years

“War is bad enough that we put our young people out there at risk,” McKeon said in an interview taped for C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers.” ”They shouldn’t have to worry about security within the base.”

The legislation would require the president to ensure that there are enough trained members of the military to fight the war in Afghanistan as well as provide security for American troops. If the president refuses, he must certify to Congress that private security contractors or the Afghan Public Protection Force can provide protection that is at least equal to the U.S. military.

When you strengthen your enemy, you weaken yourself. Ooops. I forgot Afghanistan is our partner.
