2 People Shot At DC Holocaust Museum

From a discreet Washington Post:

A helicopter flies over U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, Wednesday, June 10, 2009. Authorities say at least two people have been shot at the museum.

2 People Shot at U.S. Holocaust Museum

By Debbi Wilgoren and William Branigin
Wednesday, June 10, 2009

A gunman armed with a shotgun walked into the U.S. Holocaust Museum in downtown Washington today and opened fire on a security guard before being shot and seriously wounded himself by at least one other guard, authorities said.

The security guard and the gunman were both transported to George Washington University Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Sgt. David Schlosser, a spokesman for the U.S. Park Police, said the security guard and the gunman were apparently the only two persons who were shot. Initial reports said at least one other person sustained gunshot wounds.

U.S. Park Police said a gunman armed with a shotgun opened fire on the security guard and that other security guards returned fire. The gunman was reported wounded…

D.C. Fire Department spokesman Alan Etter said there was no immediate information on the shooter. He said two men were transported to a hospital with "serious" gunshot wounds…

It’s hard not to speculate that this might be somehow related to Mr. Obama’s outreach to the Middle East.

James W Von Brunn has been identified.

    This is apparently his website:

    • Inkslinger says:

Von Brunn’s Web site and his Wikipedia article have been taken down, within hours after his name became known. I last checked both approx 8 PM EDT on 10 June.

It’s a miracle that none of the students visiting the museum were hurt. Please remember on every Web site you post to, the heroic guard at the Holocaust Museum, Stephen Tyrone Jones who was shot while trying to stop the terrorist.

60 years later, fascism still lives. Who knew?

  2. Reality Bytes says:

Seems Rev Wright isn’t the only one that hates “Dem Jews”.

BTW – “Anti-semite” implies something less than racist. Stick to the latter.

    • Odie44 says:

Fixed it, didn’t read thorough his website befoe I posted – clearly the attention and trafffic is causing issues, thnx.

  3. BatK says:

So what exactly is the difference between THIS anti-semite versus Wright, Ahmadinejad, Hamas, Hizbollah???

    • Odie44 says:

Good point. The knee jerk lefts will try their best to slant coverage and propaganda towards “right wingers”. He is also apparently a WW2 vet… this is going to get ugly.

    • pdsand says:

It appears this anti-semite is white, so his racism will be called by its name

    • Odie44 says:

It appears this anti-semite is white, so his racism will be called by its name skin color.

    • beautyofreason says:

Because the shooter is not an Islamic nut, the President may not wait long to issue a statement on the crime – unlike his delay in mentioning the murder of an Arkansas marine by a jihadist.

Also, Obama’s statement on the dead marine did not mention radical Islam in the slightest, though it motivated the crime. I’m willing to bet that his statement on this crime (if there is one) will mention right wing hate, conservatives, and / or veterans.

    • curvyred says:

Called by his skin color, yep CNN Headline:

“White supremacist suspected in Holocaust Museum shooting”

    • JohnMG says:

      From the article in your link, red;

…..”He is in our files going back way into the 1980s,” said Heidi Beirich, a researcher for the Montgomery, Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center…..”

If the Southern Poverty Law Center is involved there is little question as to the slant in the article. The snow-job has begun.

  4. pdsand says:

Since I’m sure the blame will fall on conservatives, will the Republican party in this country get to say that this shooting was taken out of context?

    • BatK says:

No… it may become a great excuse for Holocaust deniers/Anti-semites to say that the museum is controversial and “dangerous,” that supporting Jews or Israel is “dangerous,” and that it’s in our “best interests” (ie: to not make anti-semites and muslims mad at us) to turn our back on Jews/Israel.

    • tranquil.night says:

Careful SG, now’s not the time to be tying this to Obama.

Now’s the time to be focusing on how evil, racist, conservative this white American is, how big of a crisis and tragedy it is that such people exist in the US still and what we need to do to step it up and keep them from going looney on us all.

And my prayers for the security officer shot and his family. I hope he pulls through.

    • JohnMG says:

I want to see this guy’s voter registration card. He sounds like a democrat to me.

    • BatK says:

Sorry… still trying to wrap my mind around how THIS is a tragedy, but 10,000 rockets lobbed at Israeli civilians (read: Jews) is totally ok with our president.

  5. U NO HOO says:

Getting a lot more coverage than one guy killing one soldier.

    Reference: MSNBC

  6. BatK says:

That’s cuz the culprit is a white non-muslim

    • JohnMG says:

But the media is faced with a real conundrum. Since he’s ostensibly a member of the ‘greatest generation’, how will they and the Obama camp twist this into something serving their purposes without appearing two-faced? Huh? What? You mean they don’t care? Oh, nooooow I get it.

  7. bronzeprofessor says:

I would just like to say, this event is awful and tragic.

I hope that with this event, they will pay equal attention to the Muslim who shot the Army soldier in Arkansas. All the tragedies deserve our prayers, solemnity, and call to justice.

  8. proreason says:

The scurilous media will portray this as another event in a “troubling” pattern of right-wing violence against immigrants, abortion supporters, and now Jews.

The slimeballs will cite it as proof that the fairness doctrine is required.

But what events recently might have inspired a Jew-hater to act out?

My bet is that Obama’s recent visit to the concentration camp in Germany pissed this guy off. It’s probably that simple, and not really tied to Obama’s politics. A nut like the shooter sees everybody who doesn’t want to immediately exterminate all Jews as his enemies, so he probably just lumps Obama in with everyone else who doesn’t see things as he does.

  9. BatK says:

Folks on FOX are now saying that the DHS labelling former military personnel as a possible security threat/extremists was now a wise decision… that it was “right” to label them as a potential threat because this one whack job had military background… keep harping on it acutally… and now they’re going off on how it’s wrong for ANYONE to discriminate against ANYONE “based on their religion”

    • curvyred says:

Yep Shepard was going on and on about it – unbelievable.

    • U NO HOO says:

      “a potential threat”

      EVERYONE/ANYONE is “a potential threat.”

      Timothy McVeigh was a veteran.

Lee Harvey Oswald had been to Moscow and was a veteran.

I just got home from Walter Reed and I feel like I’m having a heart attack listening to Shep Smith. I am going to have to turn this off. He keeps talking about Right Wingers. This suspect is 89 years old and was in WW2. How about looking at dementia or something. I am sickened. That Catherine Herrige (sp?) is married to a guy who graduated from West Point. A friend of ours is a former classmate to him and he said she makes him sick. Of course Shep is blaming the white folks in the military. Now, he’s reading some stupid email. He’s all sad about tiller. I’m turning this off now or I will have a heart attack.

    • jobeth says:

Catie, Shepard Smith can raise my BP in a flash. He drives me nuts sometimes. And oddly enough he thinks he is so clever…and funny.

Personally I think he is a duffus. I KNOW he is worried about his time slot and hates Beck…probably worried Beck will get it. Beck has a horrible “drive time” slot but still beats out Shep (Beck is 3rd behind O’Reily and Hannity). Tevo I guess.

If Shep is on, I turn the channel.

I take that time to watch the lib channels just to keep up with the trash they are coming up with. It’s the same trash, but at least I know it’s coming from the “in the tankers”.

Shep’s is the only show I find I want to miss.

    • catie says:

Jobeth, I did have to turn it off. I had an appt. today with cardiology and my BP was high, I hate to think what it was listening to him. Shep should be worried. I generally turn the channel when he’s on too but I thought I’d see what he was yapping about. He had some woman from the southern whatever law poverty center. They were like two peas in the pod talking about “those crazy white wingers”. Shep would be happier at MSNBC.
I did turn on Neil though and he had LTC Ralph Peters on and he went off on Neil about Shep, Herrige and their “reporting”. It was despicable and I was so glad that Peters pointed that out to Neil.
I had to get some new tires on my car yesterday as we’re going out of town tomorrow for that party for my Dad with the multiple libs. They had on MSNBC and as hot as it was here yesterday, I stayed outside. Andrea Mitchell was on and I thought I was going to go nuts.

    • jobeth says:

I’m with you all the way. I don’t mind checking out another opinion so long as it is presented as another opinion and has a point of view with a basis.

What we hear in place of that nowadays is pure sloppy, sticky sweet idolizing. No basis for an opinion…just that he makes them “feel so good” or gives good thrills up some dufus’s leg.

I am so afraid for our country right now. And as I said in another thread..I’m depressed again. I have to back away some just to stay sane. More and more of my conserv friends are feeling the same way.

      It’s sickening, what is happening.

    • proreason says:

I love it when women talk conservative.

    • dulcimergrl says:

I’m not as depressed as I was a few months ago, but maybe I’m just getting resigned to our fate. We are all well and truly screwed.

    • jobeth says:

dulcimergirl , I’m really glad to hear you’re coping with this stuff. Hang in there….we’ll all make it in the end….Oh, and pro…take it easy boy….((((grin)))) We can know the truth too!

  11. wardmama4 says:

So in one week – we have had a white anti-abortion/anti-government crazy guy kill an abortion doctor. And now this case of an older white guy using a gun in the Holocaust Museum.

First and foremost – I say – how damn convenient – just in time to prove to the stupid masses that indeed the DHS was right as to the ‘dangers’ of the vast right wing extremists. Even though how long has it been since a right winger(?!?) did anything really violent – yet how long has it been since a fringe left did something (oh yeah, I forgot they blow up buildings and don’t kill people – right) violent?

It is scary that two so vastly isolated (and probably completely unrelated) events will be used to bash down, silence and create hostility toward a segment of American society –

When the real story that needs to be front page and foremost discussion – the killing of an American soldier on American soil by a radicalized American covert to islam – is being ignored – utterly and completely.

    God Help America.

  12. U NO HOO says:

    Von Brunn

  13. bronzeprofessor says:

You guys should read the article linked to Ann Coulter’s homepage just now. The killer actually wrote long screeds against Bush, McCain, and neocons. He was a leftist, not a right-winger.

  14. MrBill says:

When I was in school there was no course offered in southern poverty law – what the hell is it anyway? (Other than an excuse for taking gratuitous shots at conservatives, of course.)

  15. proreason says:

Rabbi Dr. Morton H. Pomerantz’ speech about Obama’s visit. He thinks it might have inspired the shooter:

“Our new president did not tell a virulent anti-Semite to travel to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington to kill Jews, but he is most certainly creating a climate of hate against us.

It is no coincidence that we are witnessing this level of hatred toward Jews as President Barack Obama positions America against the Jewish state….

Just last week, Obama told his worldwide audience — more than 100 million people — that the killing of six million Jews during the Holocaust was the equivalent of Israel’s actions in dealing with the Palestinians.

This remark is incredible on its face, an insult to the six million Jews who died as a result of Hitler’s genocide — and it is a form of revisionism that will bode evil for Jews for years to come. …

Obama’s clever construct comparing the mass genocide of six million Jews to the Palestinian struggle will not be lost on the estimated 100 million Muslims who tuned into to hear him. …

The immediate danger posed by Obama’s speech is in its incredible re-writing of the history of Jews, Christians and Muslims from Medieval times to the present.

Obama, continually throughout his speech, talks of Islam’s peaceful intent. And while there are certainly Koranic verses that support this interpretation, Islam has a long and bloody history of violence against fellow Muslims, Jews and Christians. …

According to Obama, Israelis, too, are guilty of wrongdoing, especially when it comes to their supposed maltreatment of the Palestinians.

Isn’t it odd an American president would go to a foreign country and slander his own country and its long-time ally?

At the same time he praises — unconditionally — a religion and culture that has a long history of being antithetical to the very values that have made America a great nation? …

He added, “And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.”

Does he not know that a Jew or Christian would be beheaded in Saudi Arabia for practicing their religion today, now, this minute? …

You profess to be a Christian. But you seem more intent on protecting Muslims. In your speech you talked openly of your Muslim heritage, your admiration of their way of life, and so forth. You said in your speech that you have made one of your chief aims of your presidency repairing the image of Islam.

Why did you hide these views from the American public during the recent presidential campaign?

Why, as president, did you fully bow to the Saudi king, who refuses to allow any religious freedom for any Christian or Jew? …

Some Jews may be naïve, but we are not stupid. ”

These are only excerpts. There is much more.

It’s hard to read the speech and not come away convinced that Obama is bent on destroying Israel.

    • All I have to say to that is “Wow”. Awesome article.

    • proreason says:

      Thanks CB.

These are scary times for many reasons.

    • jobeth says:

What a great article find Pro! This is exactly my opinion on Obalmy. He’s evil and in the tank for islam against Israel and Christians.

The following comments say it all.

“Listen to what Obama said: “Likewise, it is important for Western countries to avoid impeding Muslim citizens from practicing religion as they see fit – for instance, by dictating what clothes a Muslim woman should wear.”

…or perhaps so called “honor killing? Here in the US? I’m sure he sees nothing wrong with it at all.

If he’s not the anti-christ…he could easily be the template.

    • Petronius says:

“Isn’t it odd an American president would go to a foreign country and slander his own country and its long-time ally? . . . .” Odd indeed. History does not record a similar example of such behavior by any world leader––a leader who has, again and again, gone to such lengths to insult his own country and his country’s best allies. Nerobama recently dissed Britain yet once again, by arranging to send some GITMO detainees to Bermuda without prior coordination with the Foreign Office. Of course his treatment of Israel is of far more serious consequence, since this is life or death for Israel. But I take comfort in the certain knowledge that the capable folks at Mossad were also listening to the Cairo speech. And that their reactions must have been even sharper than that of the good Rabbi. Thanks Pro for making this important speech available on S&L.

  16. BatK says:

Thank you for posting that… so glad to hear it coming from the Jewish community, as well as many Christians who can see this man and his agenda for what they truly are.
