2 To 1 Say Obama’s Making Economy Worse

From the Washington Post:

Obama ratings sink to new lows as hope fades

By Jon Cohen and Dan Balz, Tuesday, September 6, 2011

Public pessimism about the direction of the country has jumped to its highest level in nearly three years, erasing the sense of hope that followed President Obama’s inauguration and pushing his approval ratings to a record low, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

More than 60 percent of those surveyed say they disapprove of the way the president is handling the economy and, what has become issue No. 1, the stagnant jobs situation. Just 43 percent now approve of the job he is doing overall, a new career low; 53 percent disapprove, a new high

It’s unprecedented! And it’s probably just a coincidence that 43% of Americans also pay no income tax. And that a similar number receive government checks.

By this time in their presidencies, approval ratings for both Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton — who also suffered serious midterm setbacks during their first term — had settled safely above the 50 percent mark. Both then stayed in positive territory throughout their reelection campaigns

We were wondering why Mr. Obama had stopped talking about President Reagan.

[C]urrent trends are highly unfavorable for the president. By 2 to 1, more Americans now say the administration’s economic policies are making the economy worse rather than better. The number who say those policies have helped has been chopped in half since the start of the year. The percentage of Americans disapproving of how Obama is doing when it comes to creating jobs spiked 10 percentage points higher since July.

Of the more than six in 10 who now disapprove of Obama’s work on jobs and the economy, nearly half of all Americans “strongly” disapprove

That highlights a major disconnect between Obama and the public. Only 38 percent of those polled say they favor a larger government with more services, while 56 percent say they favor a smaller government with fewer services.

No matter. Mr. Obama is going to call for more government spending and hiring on Thursday.

Things are also bad for Obama when Americans are asked a version of the famous “are you better off today” question that Reagan used to bludgeon Jimmy Carter on his way to defeating Carter in 1980. By better than 2 to 1, more say they are not as well off financially as they were at the start of Obama’s term

And, lest we forget, we were told that the economy was the worst since the Great Depression at the start of Mr. Obama’s term.

Among political independents — a prime target of Obama’s new outreach — 78 percent see the country as off-kilter. The percentage saying so in January 2009 was 79 percent

Obama’s overall approval rating is down 11 percentage points from the start of the year….

For the first time, fewer than half of Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 give the president positive marks

Fewer than three-quarters of Democrats approve of the president; his disapproval rating among independents ties its high from a year ago at 57 percent

And yet some people still seem to believe that Mr. Obama’s re-election is a foregone conclusion.

But if Herbert Hoover was beatable, Barack Obama is beatable.

If this ABC-WAPO poll says 2/1, the truth is more likely to be closer to 98%

    What is it they say?

A recession is when your neighbor loses his job.

A depression is when you lose your job.

A recovery is when Obama loses HIS job!

As much as I deplore wishing my remaining time on earth away, I pine for November 2012.

I love to hear liberal press have to tell the story of a democrat going down. It must hurt so bad.

Predictions for the Voter Stimulus Speech on Thursday:

~88% chance of thunderous applause upon his majesty’s entrance into the chamber. Expect whistles, screams, hugs, high-fives, unable to possibly get the audience to be calm and sit down. Just when you think the applause will die down, it will rev-up again. “Please, thank you all, you’re too kind, really please be seated.”

~100% chance of blaring standing ovations at many rehearsed points in the speech.

~10% chance someone will FAINT, even though the Obama-Hillary Faint-Off of 2007-2008 is officially over.

~50% chance of the opposite of “You Lie” outburst maybe heard this time. –You just can’t stop that Democrat enthusiasm you know!

~Media passes out rolls of 3-ply toilet paper for every single sparkling moment of the speech relived on MSNBC.

~95% chance of constant video of empty seats where those mean ‘ol Republicans should have been sitting.

~75% chance of video showing some woman shaking her head in total agreement. (mostly likely Hillary Clinton)

~99% chance of an African-American person proudly (possibly teary-eyed) looking on hopefully during the speech.

~100% chance of hearing scores of detail-less vague platitudes to make it look like there is real substance behind the words.

0% chance Code-Pink will crash (or even be invited this time) the speech.

50% chance of Chris Matthew’s asking (in the form of a statement) “Is the racist Tea Party now officially dead after this speech?”

65% chance of Obama “touring” America again to sell is ideas, and also go do fund-raising activities in the process.

100% chance Pat Buchanan or some other Republican will be shouted down in the conversation on t.v. after the speech.

95% chance that NO ONE will condemn the recent uncivil speech about Republicans or the Tea Party in recent days.
