The Hill Decries The Lack Of Osama Bounce

From The Hill:

One year later, Obama team looks for lasting bin Laden bounce

By Ian Swanson and Jordy Yager – 04/30/12

The killing of Osama bin Laden is undoubtedly a crowning achievement in President Obama’s tenure at the White House.

Which is a bit ironic insofar as Obama ran as an anti-war candidate. And that the killing of Bin Laden was nothing more than carrying out Bush’s policy. And that Time Magazine has gotten hold of a memo which debunks the claims that Obama directed the mission or made any ‘gutsy calls.’

Yet one year after the president ordered the successful mission that resulted in the death of the nation’s number one enemy, it’s unclear how much of a boost Obama will receive in the fall.

54% UK Docs: Don’t Treat Smokers Or Obese

From the UK’s Daily Mail:

Doctors back demands to deny NHS treatment for smokers and the obese

By David Baker

PUBLISHED: 29 April 2012

More than half of doctors across the UK have backed controversial measures to withhold treatment to smokers and the obese.

According to a new survey around 54 per cent of those who took part said the NHS should have the right to deny non-emergency treatments to those who fail to lose weight or kick their smoking habits.

Members of the networking website were asked ‘Should the NHS be allowed to refuse non-emergency treatments to patients unless they lose weight or stop smoking?’

And although the poll was optional 593 of the 1,096 doctors who participated answered yes.

Whatever happened to the Hippocratic Oath?

Obama Campaign Buys Clinton Endorsement

From a confused New York Times:

Hardly a Close Ally, Clinton Teams With Obama to Raise Cash and Votes

Published: April 29, 2012

WASHINGTON — Four years ago, Barack Obama wrested control of the Democratic Party after portraying Bill Clinton as a symbol of small-ball ambition and outdated politics. Now, as president, Mr. Obama is turning to his Democratic predecessor for help as Republicans breathe down his neck.

The 44th president is enlisting the 42nd president, both as a historical validator of his own leadership and as a PIN to one of the richest A.T.M.’s in American politics.

Ain’t it the truth. Though The Times is probably not talking about Mr. Clinton’s personal hand laundry for money, the Clinton Foundation.

Rather than viewing him as a relic of the past, Mr.

Obama Is Politicizing Bin Laden Anniversary

From France’s Agence France-Presse:

Obama not politicizing bin Laden anniversary: White House

By Stephanie Griffith
April 29, 2012

Barack Obama’s top adviser on terrorism brushed aside criticism by the president’s political opponents that he has exploited the one-year anniversary of Osama bin Laden’s killing for political gain.

Once again, notice how we never hear about the original charge. We always hear the Obama defense from our media guardians first, and then the charge.

"All that I know is that the president made the decision when he was given the opportunity to take a gutsy decision, to carry out that raid with our special forces in Abbottabad, Pakistan," said chief White House counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan

And never mind that Time Magazine has gotten hold of a memo which debunks the claims that Obama directed the mission or made any ‘gutsy calls.’

In fact, the memo — which was written by then CIA head, Panetta — puts all of the responsibility for killing Bin Laden in the hands of Admiral McRaven.

Obama Fundraisers Top All Of Prior 5 POTUS

From the UK’s Daily Mail:

Obama has held more re-election fundraisers than previous five Presidents combined as he visits key swing states on ‘permanent campaign’

By Toby Harnden
29 April 2012

Barack Obama has already held more re-election fundraising events than every elected president since Richard Nixon combined, according to figures to be published in a new book.

Obama is also the only president in the past 35 years to visit every electoral battleground state in his first year of office.

The figures, contained a in a new book called The Rise of the President’s Permanent Campaign by Brendan J. Doherty, due to be published by University Press of Kansas in July, give statistical backing to the notion that Obama is more preoccupied with being re-elected than any other commander-in-chief of modern times.

Egypt May Let Men Have Sex With Dead Wives

    From the UK’s Daily Mail:

Outrage as Egypt plans ‘farewell intercourse law’ so husbands can have sex with DEAD wives up to six hours after their death

    By Lee Moran
    26 April 2012

Egyptian husbands will soon be legally allowed to have sex with their dead wives for up to six hours after their death, local media is claiming. The controversial new law is claimed to be part of a raft of measures being introduced by the Islamist-dominated parliament.

It will also see the minimum age of marriage lowered to 14 and the ridding of women’s rights of getting education and employment.

Egypt’s National Council for Women is reportedly campaigning against the changes, saying that ‘marginalising and undermining the status of women would negatively affect the country’s human development’.

Barack Milhous Obama Has An Enemies List

From the op-ed pages of the Wall Street Journal:

    The President Has a List

    April 26, 2012

Try this thought experiment: You decide to donate money to Mitt Romney. You want change in the Oval Office, so you engage in your democratic right to send a check.

Several days later, President Barack Obama, the most powerful man on the planet, singles you out by name. His campaign brands you a Romney donor, shames you for "betting against America," and accuses you of having a "less-than-reputable" record. The message from the man who controls the Justice Department (which can indict you), the SEC (which can fine you), and the IRS (which can audit you), is clear: You made a mistake donating that money

Richard Nixon’s "enemies list" appalled the country for the simple reason that presidents hold a unique trust.

First Quarter Growth Has ‘Cooled’ To 2.2%

From an unfazed and unashamed Reuters:

First-quarter growth slows on inventories, weak business spending

    By Lucia Mutikani
    April 27, 2012

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Economic growth cooled in the first quarter as businesses cut back on investment and restocked shelves at a slower pace, but stronger demand for automobiles softened the blow.

Gross domestic product expanded at a 2.2 percent annual rate, the Commerce Department said on Friday in its advance estimate, moderating from the fourth quarter’s 3 percent rate.

You see, US economic growth isn’t going down, it is merely ‘slowing’ and ‘cooling’ and ‘moderating.’ After all, nobody would want it to remain at the red hot breakneck pace of 3%.

While that was below economists’ expectations for a 2.5 percent pace, a surge in consumer spending took some of the sting from the report and growth was still stronger than analysts’ predictions early in the quarter for an expansion below 1.5 percent.

Georgetown Prez Says No To Sandra Fluke

    From Commentary Magazine:

G’town Keeping Policy on Birth Control

    Alana Goodman

Georgetown University’s student insurance program came under fire a few months ago during an unofficial [aka pretend] congressional hearing after student and activist Sandra Fluke criticized its lack of birth control coverage. Since Fluke’s testimony, the university has been under mounting pressure to change its birth control coverage policy immediately. But today, Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia confirmed in a letter to students that the university will not change its policy until it’s required to by law:

As you know, like most universities, Georgetown requires that students have health insurance. Students are not required to purchase their health insurance through Georgetown University and are free to acquire health insurance through a third party.

Michelle Obama Fantasizes About Leaving WH

First we have this report from Judicial Watch, via the Daily Caller:

Group: Michelle Obama’s Spain trip cost taxpayers $467K

    By Alex Pappas – 04/26/2012

It cost taxpayers nearly a half-million dollars for first lady Michelle Obama to travel to Spain in 2010, according to an analysis by Judicial Watch.

The right-leaning watchdog group [sic] estimated that the trip cost $467,585. It based its analysis on documents obtained from the U.S. Secret Service and the U.S. Air Force.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said it took his group “two years and a lawsuit to get these documents out of the Obama administration.”

That’s actually a pretty quick turnaround from this, ‘the most transparent administration in US history.’ Next, Judicial Watch should try for his college transcripts.

Obama To Buy Votes With Insurance Rebates

    From CNN’s Money.Com:

Your insurance company may owe you $127

    By Jessica Dickler
    April 26, 2012

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — Thanks to a provision in the health care reform law, millions of consumers will be receiving rebates from their insurers this summer.

By Aug. 1, insurers that failed to meet one of the early guidelines of the Affordable Care Act are going to issue rebates averaging $127 to certain policyholders, according to estimates from the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Last year, the Affordable Care Act started requiring health insurers to spend a certain percentage of the premium payments they receive toward patient care, such as doctor’s visits and hospital stays, and quality improvement activities, including discounted gym memberships or wellness brochures, instead of things like administrative and marketing costs.

Dems Fight GOP Effort To Extend Loan Rate

A surprisingly fair report from the Associated Press:

House GOP set to curb college student loan costs

    April 27, 2012

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican leaders are ready to try pushing legislation through the House holding down interest rates on federal loans to millions of college students.

Democrats say that’s a goal the GOP has adopted only lately, but the top House Democrat is opposing the measure anyway in a fight that highlights how election-year politics is coloring Congress’ work.

In the first place, the Republicans have never opposed keeping the interest rate lower. They have just sought to have it paid for, which is supposed to be a requirement under the Obama/Democrat PAYGO rules.

Secondly, notice how the Democrats are the ones opposing the effort to keep the rates down, because they don’t want to lose this propaganda tool.

EPA Official Touted Crucifying Oil Companies

    From Forbes:

EPA Official Not Only Touted ‘Crucifying’ Oil Companies, He Tried It

    Christopher Helman
    April 26, 2012

Confirming what many in the industry long suspected, a video surfaced Wednesday in which Al Armendariz, an official at the Environmental Protection Agency, promotes the idea of crucifying oil companies. Armendariz heads up the EPA’s region 6 office, which is based in Dallas and responsible for oversight of Texas and surrounding states. The former professor at Southern Methodist University was appointed by President Obama in November 2009.

In a talk to colleagues about methods EPA enforcement, Armendariz can be seen saying, “The Romans used to conquer little villages in the Mediterranean. They’d go into a little Turkish town somewhere, they’d find the first five guys they saw and they would crucify them.
