Scarlett Johansson May Play Young Hillary Clinton

The ‘laugh of the day,’ via the Politico:

Scarlett Johansson mentioned for Hillary Clinton film role

By KEVIN ROBILLARD | May 27, 2013

A bevy of big names are in the running to play a 26-year-old Hillary Rodham Clinton in a forthcoming biopic.

Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon, Les Miserables’ Amanda Seyfried and Zero Dark Thirty’s Jessica Chastain are all being considered to play the former First Lady, senator and Secretary of State, according to The Independent.

Why not Chris Matthews? He would seem to bear the closest resemblance to Hillary at that time.

The film, titled “Rodham,” focuses on Clinton’s time as a lawyer for House Judiciary Committee during the Watergate investigation.

You mean the period where Hillary was kicked off the committee for being too much of a partisan attack dog?

Bob Dole: Today’s GOP Wouldn’t Accept Reagan

From the Washington Post:

Bob Dole: GOP should be ‘closed for repairs’

By Lyndsey Layton | May 26, 2013

The Republican Party has changed so drastically in recent years, the current GOP wouldn’t welcome the likes of Ronald Reagan, former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole said Sunday.

Really? Mr. Reagan was first and foremost opposed to ever increasing taxes and the expansion of government power. He is a quintessential Tea Party man.

The current GOP ought to be “closed for repairs” because it lacks a vision and is unable to strike deals with Democrats, Dole said during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday”.

‘Striking deals’ with the Democrats is what got us into the mess we are in today. In fact, too many of those deals were struck by Bob Dole.

Paul: Obama-Care Covers Injuries From Turtles

From the UK’s Daily Mail:

Rand Paul claims Obamacare will include diagnostic codes for injuries sustained from a turtle, walking into a lamppost and burning water skis

By David Martosko | 27 May 2013

In a little-noticed speech to the Iowa Republican Party this month, Kentucky Republican Senator Rand Paul mocked President Obama’s signature health care overhaul, noting the 122,000 new medical diagnostic codes doctors will have to use in order to inform the government about injuries sustained by Americans.

Those codes, said Sen. Paul, a medical doctor himself, include line-items for ‘injuries sustained from a turtle,’ ‘walking into a lamppost’ and  ‘injuries sustained from burning water skis.’ …

Rand Paul [jabbed] the Obama administration and its health bureaucrats who have written a reported 10,000 pages of new regulations to go along with the health care law.

Obama May Be Most Transformative President Ever

From Powerline:

Obama on the verge of becoming one of America’s most successful presidents ever

By Paul Mirengoff | May 23, 2013

With so many scandals in the picture or looming, it’s easy to miss the fact that President Obama may soon become one of the most successful presidents in American history. I’m defining success as fulfilling Obama’s mission of substantially transforming America.

The Obama administration scandals matter because, to one degree or another, they involve scandalous conduct. But step back for moment. In 20 years, very few people will remember any of them.

By contrast, in 20 years — assuming that Obamacare sticks and Schumer-Rubio style immigration reform is enacted — Americans will constantly experience the impact of the Obama presidency.

Obamacare is an enormous deal.

Cillizza: IRS Scandal Helping Obama Get Amnesty

From Chris Cillizza at the Washington Post:

How the IRS scandal helped immigration reform

By Chris Cillizza and Sean Sullivan | May 24, 2013

On Wednesday the Senate Judiciary Committee approved a bill that would comprehensively overhaul the country’s immigration system. It was a major step for a Congress that has shown an inability to do just about anything over the past few years. You probably missed it.

The immigration bill’s forward progress — it now heads to a full floor debate next month — was entirely drowned out by a series of House and Senate committee hearings on the IRS’ acknowledged targeting of conservative groups. That drowning out, however, was, quite simply, the best thing that could have possibly happened for the immigration bill.

News Corps Denies Receiving DOJ’s Notification

From Reuters:

News Corp denies having record of Fox News subpoena

By Jennifer Saba, Fred Barbash | May 28, 2013

(Reuters) – News Corp said on Monday it is still reviewing whether it has any record of a notification from the United States government involving a subpoena for a Fox News reporter’s phone records.

The media conglomerate was responding to the Justice Department, which said it told News Corp about the seizure of phone records for James Rosen, a reporter with Fox News, in August 2010.

Right before the midterm elections. And Fox News never said a word about it?

"While we don’t take issue with the DOJ’s account that they sent a notice to News Corp, we do not have a record of ever having received it," said News Corp spokesman Nathaniel Brown, who added the company is looking into the matter.

Obama Demanded Bush’s AG Resign Back In 2007

From Breitbart:

2007: Obama Demanded Atty Gen Resign For Carrying Out ‘Political Vendettas’ Of Admin

May 23, 2013

On Larry King Live in 2007, presidential candidate Barack Obama attacked Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and called on him to resign for carrying out the President’s "political vendettas."

Lest we forget, this was because President Bush had asked for the resignation of seven US Attorneys General, back on December 7, 2006. And never mind that upon taking office, Bill Clinton had Janet Reno fire all 93 of the current US Attorneys General, back on March 24, 1993.

Oh, and never mind that the racist Senator Obama was calling for the resignation of our nation’s first Hispanic Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales.

Our transcription:

KING: The major issue at hand these days is Alberto Gonzales, the firing of the eight U.S.

Obama And Chris Christie To Tour Together Again

From a besotted Associated Press:

Obama, NJ’s Christie together again in mutual aid

By JIM KUHNHENN | May 28, 2013

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama and Gov. Chris Christie, the odd couple of politics, are finding common cause again.

Obama was to tour New Jersey’s beach communities with Christie on Tuesday, examining the recovery from Hurricane Sandy’s devastating damage last October.

The trip gives Obama a chance to showcase the widely praised Federal Emergency Management Agency at a time when attention has focused on the Internal Revenue Service and its targeting of conservative groups.

"Widely praised"? By whom? Not the people of New Jersey and Staten Island. But the AP is right to say this is another attempt by Obama to distract us from his scandals.

Obama’s Vote Suppression Was Explained In 2012

From the archives of the New York Times:

The Politics of Anything Goes

By THOMAS B. EDSALL | July 23, 2012

Barack Obama first captured the national spotlight with a speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention in Boston in which he called for an end to the politics of division…

Now, faced with a tough re-election fight, President Obama has, in fundamental respects, adopted the strategy he denounced eight years ago.

He is running a two-track campaign. One track of his re-election drive seeks to boost turnout among core liberal groups; the other aims to suppress turnout and minimize his margin of defeat in the most hostile segment of the electorate, whites without college degrees.

AKA white blue collar voters.

Obama is actively courting [his] constituencies: ending the deportation of many young workers who are in the United States illegally; endorsing same-sex marriage; loosening work requirements for welfare recipients; pressing Congress to keep student loan rates low; rejecting the proposal to build the northern portion of the 1,700 mile Keystone pipeline from Canada to Texas; and promoting health-care reform that requires insurance plans to fully cover birth control without co-pays or deductibles.

911: No Cops To Respond To Assault Due To Cuts

From CBS Seattle affiliate, KSTW:

911 Dispatcher Tells Woman About To Be Sexually Assaulted There Are No Cops To Help Her Due To Budget Cuts

May 23, 2013

JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. (CBS Seattle) — An Oregon woman was told by a 911 dispatcher that authorities wouldn’t be able be able to help her as her ex-boyfriend broke into her place because of budget cuts.

Oregon Public Radio reports that an unidentified woman called 911 during a weekend in August 2012 while Michael Bellah was breaking into her place. Her call was forwarded to Oregon State Police because of lay-offs at the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office only allows the department to be open Monday through Friday.

“Uh, I don’t have anybody to send out there,” the 911 dispatcher told the woman.

AP: Some Unions Now Angry About Obama-Care

From the a suddenly noticing Associated Press:

Some unions now angry about health care overhaul

By SAM HANANEL | May 24, 2013

WASHINGTON (AP) — When President Barack Obama pushed his health care overhaul plan through Congress, he counted labor unions among his strongest supporters.

But some unions leaders have grown frustrated and angry about what they say are unexpected consequences of the new law — problems that they say could jeopardize the health benefits offered to millions of their members.

The issue could create a political headache next year for Democrats facing re-election if disgruntled union members believe the Obama administration and Congress aren’t working to fix the problem.

Which is all the AP cares about. They want the Democrats to win control of the House and Senate, so that Obama can ram through the rest of his agenda un-opposed.
