Sessions: Rank & File Must Stop GOP’s Amnesty

Via the Daily Caller:

Sessions: House must block GOP immigration proposal

Caroline May | January 30, 2014

Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions slammed the House Republicans’ immigration blueprint released Thursday, saying that the task of halting the immigration reform agenda is now left to rank-and-file Republicans.

By which we suspect he means the rank and file Republicans out in the hinterlands, in addition to those in Congress. In reality this will only be stopped if the people once again use their power — the power of the phone and the pen — to tell Congress to say no to amnesty.

Which, in point of fact, has been the situation for at least the last eight years, going back to 2006. (When Bush and McCain were pushing amnesty.)

“Once again, we have the same recycled talking points —crafted, it would appear, with the help of the same consultants and special interests,” Sessions said in a statement Thursday evening.

Boehner: GOP Is ‘Alternative’ Not ‘The Opposition’

From The Hill:

Boehner: House GOP is ‘alternative’ to Obama, not ‘the opposition’

By Russell Berman | 01/30/14

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – House Republicans arrived at their retreat here in search of an agenda for 2014, hoping to show voters that they are, in the words of Speaker John Boehner, the “alternative party,” not simply the opposition to President Obama.

In between motivational speeches and ideas lectures at a resort along the banks of the frozen Chesapeake Bay, GOP lawmakers will try to hatch plans on immigration, the debt ceiling and healthcare…

“I think in order to maximize this year, it’s important that we show the American people that we’re not just the opposition party, we’re actually the alternative party,” Boehner (R-Ohio), dressed casually in an orange sweater, told reporters Thursday morning.

CA Spent $1.37M On Lurid O-Care Ads (Simmons)

From Watchdog,Org:

Obamacare: For $1.37M we get Richard Simmons in lurid web stream

By Tori Richards | January 30, 2014

Facing a $78 million budget shortfall, California’s Obamacare exchange has spent $1.37 million to fund an outreach video featuring exercise guru Richard Simmons gyrating on the floor and hugging a contortionist who is kneeling with his buttocks in the air.

The “Tell a Friend — Get Covered” campaign by Covered California features other celebrities Olivia Wilde, comic Billy Eirchner, Fran Drescher and Tatyana Ali. The centerpiece of the effort was an eight-hour live web stream that ran on Jan. 16. None of the celebrities were paid for their work, Covered California said.

So why did this cost $1.37 million dollars? The production values do not reflect a $1.37 million dollar budget.

Uninsured Like O-Care 46% Less Since Passage

From the Washington Examiner:

Obamacare favorability rating down a net 46 points since time of passage — among uninsured

By Philip Klein | JANUARY 30, 2014

… According to the January version of the monthly tracking poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation, just 24 percent of uninsured adults under 65 have a favorable view of the health care law, while 47 percent, or nearly double, have an unfavorable view.

In April 2010, the same survey taken weeks after Obama signed the health care legislation into law, 50 percent had a favorable view, compared to 27 percent had an unfavorable view. On a net basis, that’s a 46-point drop in favorability.

How many hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars have been spent on advertising during that period, trying to convince the uninsured to love Obama-Care?

WP Crows: Hillary Is Biggest Frontrunner – Ever!

From a beaming with pride Washington Post:

Hillary Clinton is the biggest frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination ever. Yes, ever.

By Chris Cillizza and Sean Sullivan | January 30, 2014

Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 61-point edge over Joe Biden in new Washington Post-ABC News polling makes her the single biggest frontrunner for a Democratic presidential nomination in the history of the poll, an affirmation of the conventional wisdom that the nomination is hers for the taking.

Wasn’t that the conventional wisdom about this same time five or six years ago? And then some ‘dark horse’ came along and stole the nomination right out from under her.

In fact, when was the last time the early presumed favorite got the Democrat Party’s nomination, apart from Al Gore?

NBC ‘News’ Ranks Below MSNBC, Comedy Central

From the Washington Examiner:

NBC, MSNBC sink to bottom of who the public trusts

By Paul Bedard | JANUARY 30, 2014

NBC News and sister cable network MSNBC rank at the bottom of media outlets Americans trust most for news, with Fox News leading the way, according to a new poll from the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling.

So ‘maybe you can only fool some of the people some of the time.’ Also, note that even PPP now acknowledges this. Of course, this seems to be the result in most media polls so often it probably isn’t really news anymore.

In its fifth trust poll, 35 percent said they trusted Fox news more than any other outlet, followed by PBS at 14 percent, ABC at 11 percent, CNN at 10 percent, CBS at 9 percent, 6 percent for MSNBC and Comedy Central, and just 3 percent for NBC.

Russia Has Been Violating Arms Treaty Since ’08

From the New York Times:

U.S. Says Russia Tested Missile, Despite Treaty

By MICHAEL R. GORDON | January 29, 2014

WASHINGTON — The United States informed its NATO allies this month that Russia had tested a new ground-launched cruise missile, raising concerns about Moscow’s compliance with a landmark arms control accord. American officials believe Russia began conducting flight tests of the missile as early as 2008.

Note the date. You can bet they started with Obama’s election.

Such tests are prohibited by the treaty banning medium-range missiles that was signed in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan and Mikhail S. Gorbachev, the Soviet leader at the time, and that has long been viewed as one of the bedrock accords that brought an end to the Cold War.

AP On ‘Byline Strike’ Over New Healthcare Costs

From an unfazed Politico:

AP reporters go on byline strike

By HADAS GOLD | 1/30/14

Reporters and editors of The Associated Press are not putting their bylines on stories published Thursday in order to protest affordability issues with new health care and job-transfer proposals.

Oh, the irony. These AP reporters are so blinded by their love for Obama that they refuse to see how his mandates in Obama-Care have driven up their own health care costs.

The "byline strike" is for 24 hours, and 110 of 115 bureaus are participating, according to the News Media Guild, which represents many, though not all, AP employees.

“The intent of the byline boycott is to tell AP managers that staffers support their bargainers at the table and oppose AP’s proposals that include health care that would shift $10 million in costs to Guild-covered staffers; the ability to transfer staffers anywhere at anytime; and changes to expenses that could cost some staffers thousands of dollars,” Guild President Martha Waggoner said in a statement." …

The Huffington Post’s article on this ‘strike’ includes this line: "Members of the News Media Guild are taking action against the AP’s new health care proposals that the Guild says are largely unaffordable to most staffers."

Don’t these AP employees realize the $10 million dollars in healthcare costs that is being ‘shifted’ on to them is due to Obama-Care’s new mandates?

GDP Grew By 3.2% (Thanks To Gov’t Shutdown?)

From the Agence France Presse:

US economy scored robust growth in fourth quarter

By Veronica Smith | January 30, 2014

Washington (AFP) – The US economy grew at a robust annual rate of 3.2 percent in the fourth quarter despite the partial government shutdown in October, according to Commerce Department data released Thursday.

Apparently, the ‘government shutdown’ in October was a good thing, after all. (Hiring shot up, too.) So all the news media and the rest of the Democrat Party were wrong when they hysterically predicted doom and gloom because of the 17 day partial shutdown.

We were told it would cost the economy $24 billion dollars, and that it would shave several points off the GDP. Some even predicted it would throw back into a recession.

Petitions To Deport Justin Bieber Top 100K Sigs

From the Politico:

Deport Justin Bieber petition tops 100K

By TAL KOPAN | 1/29/14

Washington may be buzzing about Tuesday’s State of the Union, but many Americans are concerned about another issue facing the nation: the immigration status of Justin Bieber.

Nobody is ‘buzzing’ about Tuesday’s State Of The Union speech. In fact, it got the lowest ratings since 2000.

The young pop star, who is Canadian and in the country on a temporary work visa, was arrested last week on charges of driving under the influence and resisting arrest. A petition was created the same day, urging the White House to revoke his permission to be in the country.

“We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture.

Politico: Democrats Ceding House To Save Senate!

From the Politico:

Democrats: Cede the House to save the Senate

With Democrats’ grasp on the Senate increasingly tenuous — and the House all but beyond reach — some top party donors and strategists are moving to do something in the midterm election as painful as it is coldblooded: Admit the House can’t be won and go all in to save the Senate.

Their calculation is uncomplicated. With only so much money to go around in an election year that is tilting the GOP’s way, Democrats need to concentrate resources on preserving the chamber they have now. Losing the Senate, they know, could doom whatever hopes Barack Obama has of salvaging the final years of his presidency.

The triage idea is taking hold in phone conversations among donors and in strategy sessions between party operatives.

WP Fact-Checker Twists ’91M Out Of Workforce’

From the Washington Post’s resident fact-twister:

Are there 91 million Americans ‘on the sidelines’ looking for work?

By Glenn Kessler | January 30, 2014

“The more than 91 million Americans who are out of the workforce and stuck on the sidelines deserve action on the part of the president and the Senate.” –Rep. Diane Black (R-Tenn.), opinion article in The Tennessean, Jan. 28, 2014

Look at that quote. Ms Black did not claim all of those 91 million are currently looking for work, as Mr. Kessler’s highly misleading headline claims. But in fact there are more than 91 million people who are out of the workforce. It’s a figure even Kessler confirms. And yet, Mr. Kessler, being part of the Obama PR firm that is the mainstream media gives this statement three Pinocchios.

Reuters: Jobless Claims Rise More Than Expected

From a once again blind-sided Reuters:

Jobless claims rise more than expected

January 30, 2014

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits rose more than expected last week, but the underlying trend suggested the labor market continued to heal.

Again, as usual, Reuters gives us a snippet of bad (real) news. But then immediately tacks on some rosy (made-up) ‘news.’ By the way, it’s pretty tough to claim the labor market is healing when last weeks new claims number was also up.

And, in fact, last week’s number was quietly revised even higher:

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased 19,000 to a seasonally adjusted 348,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Claims for the prior week were revised to show 3,000 more applications received than previously reported.

Fed Cuts ‘Quantitative Easing’ By Another $10B

From the Agence France Presse:

Fed cuts US economic stimulus again

January 29, 2014

Washington (AFP) – The Federal Reserve stayed the course on tapering its stimulus for the US economy Wednesday, reducing asset purchases by $10 billion for the second month in a row.

Amid emerging-market turmoil blamed in part on its stimulus reduction, the Fed, as expected, cut the monthly bond-buying program to $65 billion beginning February and left its benchmark interest rate near zero, citing "growing underlying strength in the broader economy."

We’re beginning to wonder — with his threats ‘to go it alone’ and his letting the Fed cut Quantitative Easing — if maybe Obama isn’t throwing in the towel on winning control of Congress in the midterms, after all.

Or maybe he just wants to get all of this over with as soon as possible, so we don’t have the stock market collapsing too close to the midterm elections.

CA Has 43 Ex-Cons Working As ACA ‘Navigators’

From National Review:

California’s Obamacare Scandal

By Jillian Kay Melchior | January 29, 2014

At least 43 convicted criminals are working as Obamacare navigators in California, including three individuals with records of significant financial crimes.

Although some of the offenses are decades old, and although convicted criminals account for only 1 percent of the 3,729 certified enrollment counselors in the state, Californians still have good cause to be concerned about their privacy.

Actually the number of ex-cons is surprising low, given the pool of talent they are drawing from: former ACORN employees, and the SEIU and Planned Parenthood. Still, it is a bit hard to take being ‘forced’ by the law to turn your personal information over to people who could be convicted criminals, some even convicted for identity theft.
