CDC: Tanning Beds Lead To Drinking, Unsafe Sex

From an unquestioning Reuters:

Indoor tanning linked to teen sex, binge drinking

By Andrew M. Seaman | February 27, 2014

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) — U.S. teenagers who use indoor tanning devices are more likely to take part in other risky behaviors, according to a new government study.

The Obama administration’s ‘War On Tanning Beds’ continues. (Is it their way to get at John Boehner?)

Researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that using indoor tanning devices was linked to binge drinking, having sex and using unsafe methods to control weight among high school students.

And we believe that too. Similarly, we also believe that marijuana, Hollywood movies, rap music and free condoms and morning after pills and single parents and welfare have absolutely no negative impact on young people.

DC Makes Insurers/Medicaid Cover Sex Changes

From the Washington Times:

D.C. health plans to include gender-reassignment surgeries

By Andrea Noble | February 27, 2014

D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray on Thursday announced that the city will recognize gender dysphoria [sic] as a medical condition, forcing insurance companies to cover treatments such as gender-reassignment surgery for transgender people.

Among other things, just look at how our language has been perverted: ‘dysphoria’ ‘gender reassignment,’ ‘transgender.’

The coverage extends to all D.C. residents with group or individual health insurance — including the roughly one-third of city residents receiving Medicaid benefits [sic!]— whose doctors diagnose the condition and for whom treatment is deemed medically necessary.

Taxpayers will be only too happy to pay for Medicaid sex changes, if it will help the poor to a more satisfying sex life.

Jason Collins Meets Matthew Shepard’s Parents

From a deeply moved Associated Press:

Collins meets with Shepard’s parents

By ARNIE STAPLETON | February 28, 2014

DENVER (AP) — Jason Collins had plenty of gifts for Matthew Shepard’s parents: a basket, a blowout, an autographed No. 98 jersey that he wears in honor of their son…

Collins played the final eight minutes of the Brooklyn Nets’ 112-89 romp over the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night, and although his three points and four fouls weren’t much to look at in the boxscore, rarely has the 35-year-old center been this proud of a performance…

Apparently, Mr. Collin’s contract with the Nets (which is only for 10 days), only entails him playing for ten minutes or less per game. Which smacks of ‘tokenism,’ if you ask us.

Harlem Pastor: Obama’s Released Homo Demons

From the Washington Times:

Harlem church sign warns: Obama has released ‘the homo demons’

By Jessica Chasmar | February 27, 2014

A church sign in New York City’s Harlem is warning black women to be on the lookout for a “white homo” trying to steal their man. “Obama has released the homo demons on the black man. Look out black woman. A white homo may take your man,” reads the marquee for ATLAH World Church at Lenox and 123rd.

The pastor of the church, James David Manning, has been very critical of President Obama, calling him “The Long Legged Mack Daddy” and often blaming him for the destruction of the black family, the Village Voice reported.

Well, he’s certainly right about that last part, for sure.

Biden: ‘I Was Given Every S*** Job By Obama’

From the UK’s Daily Mail:

‘I was given every s*** job in the world by Obama’: Biden makes astonishing revelations about his relationship with the President as it’s claimed he was ‘frozen out’ by White House over gay gaffe

By Meghan Keneally | 27 February 2014

Vice President Joe Biden has revealed that the President assigned him ‘every s*** job in the world’ but he still wasn’t able to win Obama’s full support and began being effectively frozen out after one of his infamous gaffes.

Interesting description. Given that Obama put ‘Sherriff Joe’ in charge of defending the middle class. He was also supposed to make sure the stimulus worked and there was no waste.

The 71-year-old argued that he was happy to do the less glamorous tasks… but only at a price.

Armed Men Seize 2 Airports In Ukraine’s Crimea

First we have this from Reuters:

Armed men seize two airports in Ukraine’s Crimea, Russia denies involvement

By Alissa de Carbonnel and Alessandra Prentice | February 28, 2014

SIMFEROPOL, Ukraine (Reuters) – Armed men took control of two airports in the Crimea region on Friday in what Ukraine’s government described as an invasion and occupation by Russian forces, raising tension between Moscow and the West.

Russia’s Black Sea fleet, which is based in the region, denied its forces were involved in seizing one of the airports, Interfax news agency reported, while a supporter described the group at the other site merely as Crimean militiamen. ..

Interior Minister Arsen Avakov accused Russian naval forces of taking over a military airport near the port of Sevastopol, where the Black Sea fleet has its base, and other Russian forces of seizing Simferopol’s civilian international airport.

"I consider what has happened to be an armed invasion and occupation in violation of all international agreements and norms," Avakov said on his Facebook page, describing it as a "provocation" and calling for talks…

And there’s this, from the Associated Press:

Ukraine crisis deepens as Russia scrambles jets

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Russia scrambled fighter jets to patrol its border and reportedly gave shelter to Ukraine’s fugitive president as gunmen stormed government buildings in the strategic Crimea region and raised a Russian flag over the regional parliament Thursday, deepening the crisis for the new Ukrainian government even as it was being formed…

Respected Russian news organization RBK reported that Viktor Yanukovych, who was driven out of Kiev by a three-month protest movement against his government, was staying in a Kremlin retreat just outside Moscow after first staying at a hotel.

Dartmouth Students’ Letter Demands Reparations

From The College Fix:

Dartmouth Students Claim Racial Oppression, Threaten ‘Physical Action’

By Sandor Farkas | February 24, 2014

Dartmouth College — A group of disgruntled students at Dartmouth College sent an 8-page protest letter to leaders of the Ivy League institution Monday calling for reparations for what they claim is the school’s oppressive and racist atmosphere – and threatened “physical action” if their demands are not met.

The list of demands, written by “concerned Asian, Black, Latin@, Native, Undocumented, Queer, and Differently-Abled students,” include:

• Racial enrollment quotas for Black and Latino students to “at least 10 percent each”
• “Ensure that 47 percent of post-doctoral students are people of color”
• “Ban the use of ‘illegal aliens, illegal immigrants, wetback’ and any racially charged term”
• Mandate cultural competency and sensitivity training for professors
• “Ask staff/faculty to use students’ and employees’ preferred gender pronouns”

• Enroll more students in the country illegally (undocumented students); and provide them free legal assistance and financial aid
• Convert ethnic studies programs into full-fledged departments
• Incorporate into each department at least one queer studies class
• Increase the interdisciplinary academic focus on sexualities
• Enact curricular changes to force students to study social justice and marginalization in depth
• Provide gender-neutral bathrooms in every building on campus

• “Create a policy with serious consequences against hate speech/crimes”
• Create a policy penalizing and discriminating against students who use the Indian mascot
• Require school’s conservative paper give up “Dartmouth” name if they use term “Indian”

Enacting these changes and the many others listed on the lengthy demand letter, its authors stated, will “eradicate systems of oppression as they affect marginalized communities on this campus.”

“These systems–which include racism, classism, sexism, heterosexism, and ableism—are deployed at Dartmouth and beyond as forms of institutional violence,” the letter states.

Reid ‘Walks Back’ Claim All O-Care Ads Are Lies

From Fox News:

Harry Reid walks back claim that ObamaCare woes are bogus

By Lauren Ashburn | February 27, 2014

If you don’t know what the term “walking it back” means, Harry Reid’s Twitter feed is a textbook case.

He took to the Senate floor Wednesday morning saying that Republicans lie, and then tweeted a YouTube video of his remarks along with this caption:

“While Republicans use tall tales to attack Obamacare, Democrats have real stories of people who are saving on their premiums thanks to the law. We don’t have to make things up.”

Senator Harry Reid [tweeted]: "The Koch Brothers are spending millions of dollars to deceive Americans about Obamacare."

The Senate majority leader took a drubbing online from Republican lawmakers who called him out on his claims about ads funded by Americans for Prosperity, a conservative group backed by billionaire industry barons David and Charles Koch.

Reid: Obama-Care Horror Stories Are ‘All Untrue’

First we have this from the Weekly Standard:

Harry Reid Denies All Obamacare ‘Horror Stories’; ‘All Are Untrue’

By DANIEL HALPER | February 26, 2014

Harry Reid spoke about the Obamacare "horror stories" on the Senate floor this morning. He said that "all are untrue." "Despite all that good news, there’s plenty of horror stories being told. All of them are untrue, but they’re being told all over America," said Reid.

Are they as untrue as the ads that Romney caused a man’s wife to die of cancer? Are they as untrue as Reid’s claims that Romney paid no income taxes for ten years? Are they as untrue as the claim that ‘if you like your health insurance, you can keep it’?

"The leukemia patient whose insurance policy was canceled [and] could die without her medication, Mr.

Google Fears New FCC Powers (Net Neutrality)

From an irony proof National Journal:

Google Fears FCC’s New Internet Powers

By Brendan Sasso | February 26, 2014

A recent court decision that endorsed a broad view of the Federal Communications Commission’s authority over the Internet has Google and other Web companies nervous. In closed-door meetings with regulators and Capitol Hill staff, Google’s lawyers have said they’re worried how the FCC may use its newfound powers, according to multiple people familiar with the meetings.

The extent of the FCC’s authority over Google and other Web services remains unclear, and the current FCC has given no indication that it is interested in pushing aggressive new regulations.

After all, we haven’t see any evidence of the FCC trying to tell anyone how to run their businesses.

9th Circ Makes Google Remove Anti-Muslim Video

From an irony proof Associated Press:

YouTube ordered to take down anti-Muslim film

By PAUL ELIAS | February 27, 2014

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A U.S. appeals court ordered YouTube on Wednesday to take down an anti-Muslim film that sparked violent riots in parts of the Middle East and death threats to the actors.

The decision by a divided three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco reinstated a lawsuit filed against YouTube by an actress who appeared briefly in the 2012 video that led to rioting and deaths because of its negative portrayal of the Prophet Muhammad.

‘There they go again.’

YouTube resisted calls by President Barack Obama and other world leaders to take down the video, arguing that to do so amounted to unwarranted government censorship and would violate the Google-owned company’s free speech protections.

NBC: Brewer Wins Fans Over ‘Anti-Gay’ Bill Veto

From NBC News:

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer Wins Fans Over Anti-Gay Bill Veto

By Henry Austin | February 27, 2014

Republican Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer was lauded online after defying many members of her own party by vetoing an anti-gay bill Wednesday night…

Have we actually heard from any Republicans who had the nerve to try to defend religious freedom from the media’s onslaught? (We don’t think so.)

Jan Brewer [tweeted]: "Moments ago, I vetoed #SB1062."

Arizona Senator John McCain backed Brewer, saying that everyone was welcome in his state. John McCain [tweeted]: "I appreciate Gov Brewer’s decision to veto #SB1062 – everyone is welcome to enjoy our beautiful #Arizona."

Especially, illegal aliens.

Mitt Romney agreed. Mitt Romney: "veto of #SB1062 is right."

Celebrities like Perez Hilton were also pleased with the news.

Brewer Bullied Into Vetoing Religious Freedom

From Yahoo News:

Arizona governor vetoes controversial anti-gay, ‘religious freedom’ bill

By Eric Pfeiffer | February 26, 2014

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer announced that she has vetoed a bill that would have allowed state businesses to discriminate against gay and lesbian customers. “The bill is broadly worded and could result in unintended and negative consequences," Brewer told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday.

You know, you could actually say the same thing about the first amendment. Which protects religious freedom. — Or, rather, it used to.

By the way, note how Yahoo News put scare quotes around ‘religious freedom,’ and not ‘anti gay.’

"After weighing all of the arguments I have vetoed Senate Bill 1062 moments ago.” Brewer made her remarks during a press conference announced with little notice on Wednesday evening.
