34 Warships To Accompany Obama’s Trip

From the Press Trust Of India:

34 warships sent from US for Obama visit

New Delhi: The White House will, of course, stay in Washington but the heart of the famous building will move to India when President Barack Obama lands in Mumbai on Saturday.

Communications set-up, nuclear button, a fleet of limousines and majority of the White House staff will be in India accompanying the President on this three-day visit that will cover Mumbai and Delhi.

He will also be protected by a fleet of 34 warships, including an aircraft carrier, which will patrol the sea lanes off the Mumbai coast during his two-day stay there beginning Saturday. The measure has been taken as Mumbai attack in 2008 took place from the sea.

Arrangements have been put in place for emergency evacuation, if needed.

Obama is expected to fly by a helicopter — Marine One — from the city airport to the Indian Navy’s helibase INS Shikra at Colaba in south Mumbai.

From there, he will drive down in Lincoln Continental — the Presidential limousine — to the nearby the Taj Hotel.

Two jets, armed with advanced communication and security systems, and a fleet of over 40 cars will be part of Obamas convoy.

Around 800 rooms have been booked for the President and his entourage in Taj Hotel and Hyatt.

The President will have a security ring of American elite Secret Service, which are tasked to guard the President, along with National Security Guards (NSG) and personnel from central paramilitary forces and local police in Mumbai and Delhi.

Similar arrangements will be in place in Delhi, with the Air Force One to be kept in all readiness throughout Obama’s stay here from Sunday afternoon to Tuesday morning.

Maurya Hotel, where the President will stay, has already been swarmed by American security personnel and protective measures have been put in place.

Security drills are already been carried out at the hotel as well as Rajghat which he will visit.

Sources said 13 heavy-lift aircraft with high-tech equipment, three helicopters and 500 US security personnel have arrived in India ahead of Obama’s visit.

The US security has also brought interception and obstruction device, sniffer dogs, rescue gadgets.

Apart from Obama’s Air Force One, a few private luxury jets carrying top American corporate leaders, who are part of Obama entourage, are also expected to arrive in India in next 2-3 days.

All high-rise buildings in the vicinity of Mumbai’s Taj Mahal hotel and Delhi’s Maurya Sheraton hotel, where the US President will stay, are being sanitised and security personnel will be positioned on rooftops to prevent any air-borne attack.

The Ridge area – opposite Delhi’s Maurya Sheraton hotel – has been illuminated by floodlights as part of the heightened security drill.

The Home Ministry has already issued an alert for Mumbai and Delhi asking authorities to take extra precautions during Obama’s visit as well as on Diwali on Friday.

We are glad to see that they have done more for security than simply remove the nearby coconuts. But why go to Mumbai in the first place – or indeed, any place?

Lest we forget, the Indian press is also the source for the story that Obama’s visit will cost $200 million a day and that he will be accompanied by 3,000 people. Maybe they just don’t like him. Maybe they think he is a Muslim.

Even so, why is this trip necessary? Is it part of Mr. Obama’s laser-like focus on saving and creating jobs? Exactly how will spending a fortune – every day – help us solve our problems like the federal deficit?

Whatever happened to the ‘era of fiscal responsibility’? Whatever happened to personal responsibility? Whatever happened to shared sacrifice and having "skin in the game"?

I can’t help but think of it as yet another “in-your-face” moment for the petulant adolescent who believes the sun rises and sets on his command.

Absurd amounts of money, absurd amounts of support, time, energy for the guy who tells us all to “go green” and that we “must be willing to sacrifice”.

It’s just beyond the pale. And from my vantage point, I want to know just how much he has spent on things “presidential” compared to other presidents. That number should be available to the public at all times.

    • hushpuppy says:

Rusty- think of it as just another African dictator with delusions of grandeur going around with his posse rewarding his friends, punishing his enemies and trying to impress everyone with how important he thinks he is.

Because he and moochelle hate America and can’t stand living in the People’s House, he’ll think of all these ways to spend money and live it up while he can. Remember it was her decision to take the offspring and it was her idea of taking a retinue (with hangers’ on and her posse) and bugger off to Spain for a change of scenery.

Is anyone keeping track of what this is costing? I read somewhere that Fox was suing to try to get a FOIA from the GAO (I think it was the GAO) so they could see how much money this is costing. So far they’ve been unsuccessful…

The mind boggles, and there’s two years left. I wonder how much money his magical mystery all expenses paid good-bye tour of the universe will be spent close to the end of the 4 years?

    • finebammer59 says:

and what of the carbon footprint????

folks speak of this president being tone-deaf. if this were bush, he’d be in a bubble.

      34 warships???

      have bubble, will travel.

  2. GL0120 says:

Someone please tell me that we actually traded 34 warships to get India to take Obammy in exile now instead of in two years.

  3. Georgfelis says:

200 mil a day? Is this a State Visit or an Invasion?

    • Adam Moreira says:

Can someone provide me a detailed list of how someone came up with $200 million? That seems very fishy, as all of the details released are details that are usually not released at all, except on a need-to-know basis. That is, is someone feeding the press falsehoods and the press is failing to vet it?

As for booking the entire hotel…you can’t trust India to keep the hotel free of nefarious persons otherwise.

    • mr_bill says:

Adam, the other day you wrote that you intended to pursue a career in what? Was it research?

    • Adam Moreira says:

Biology research – not this type…and a breakdown of who is paying for what can’t be found. The media failed to do its job.

    • wardmama4 says:

The lie in this whole Obama trip mess is that the 200 mil a day – is what The Won is funneling into his own private offshore account to use after he is investigated (and embarrassed when Obamacare is repealed) and shown to be ineligible and/or criminal in his 2 years of being POTUS.

Or he is on the 2nd leg of his Master of the Universe wanna be tour.

Either way – once again he be redistributin’ the wealth – to himself.

    • mr_bill says:

I’m sure your research skills will be invaluable in academia. Its a shame that the nerobama regime isn’t more transparent with its expenditures of American tax dollars.

    • Adam Moreira says:

The journalists accompanying Obama are paying their own way, along with other things. For it to even equal $200M/day, each person would have to be spending $65,000/day…nowhere near realistic. Combine that with the fact that the press is paying their own way…it sounds much less than $200M for the entire trip insofar as the taxpayers are concerned.

    • mr_bill says:

If anybody could accomplish such a gross waste of money, nerobama can.

    • proreason says:

got a wild hunch that 34 warships don’t buy corn gas and the crewmen don’t eat at McD’s

    • Adam Moreira says:

I’ll believe that there are 34 warships when I see it…and I also would be surprised if most of them did not carry the Indian flag. That Indian official can’t get his story straight.

  4. BigOil says:

This trip to India is over-the-top outrageous. People in this country should be up in arms and looking for their pitchforks. Pulling a stunt like this two days after millions of Americans shouted ‘stop wasting our damn money’.

Remember when this clown first took office, he directed his cabinet to find 100 million dollars in spending cuts, as his display of fiscal responsibility. His propagandists response to criticism these cuts were a drop in the bucket was:

“Only in Washington, D.C., is $100 million not a lot of money,” Gibbs said. “It is where I’m from. It is where I grew up. And I think it is for hundreds of millions of Americans.”

If 100 million dollars is a lot, what is spending over a billion on a boondoggle?

Why not have a billion dollar bonfire on the White House lawn? At least then we could watch our tax dollars go up in smoke.

  5. tranquil.night says:

India’s a rapidly modernizing economic force with plenty of room left for growth in a freer market than America, and a growing capitalist Conservative political majority. America is in debt up to its shorts to China, who’s ambitious to assert its regional authority. Soros investing heavily in Indian media apparatuses.

These are facts, maybe or maybe not related to the enigmatic circumstances of this inappropriate trip. I believe also that India’s bank isn’t buying in our bond drives.

  6. mr_bill says:

It seems to me that this trip includes a ton of security measures: 34 warships, probably the largest contingent of personal security personnel ever assembled by a sitting president for a state trip, a bomb-proof tunnel to be constructed so nerobama can visit the Ghandi museum. Why all the security? nerobama acts like he is afraid of something, like perhaps the muslims that staged terrorist attacks at a hotel in Mumbai. Contrast this with Juan Williams’ comments and the resulting treatment.

Williams says muslims that identify as muslims first make him uncomfortable on airplanes and he gets fired and branded a bigot by the left. Obama takes 34 warships, God only knows how many submarines, constructs a bomb-proof tunnel, and brings thousands of security personnel all at a cost of hundreds of millions of dollars a day and the left acts like its no big deal.

If nerobama has raised the world’s opinion of the US so much, why does he require the most elaborate security detail ever, doesn’t everybody love him? Our enemies ought to love him, he’s done more for them in two years than they could ever have imagined.

    • proreason says:

I doubt he is afraid of anything. He thinks of himself as a god.

This trip is his demonstration to the world of his immense power and glory. It is probably 10 times the size that his staff intended or the military recommended.

    • mr_bill says:

Maybe so, he does consider his “enemies” to be here in America and his friends have much more in common with the Taliban than with the rest of America. Probably just another method to piss away a billion dollars and make sure Americans never get a dime of it.

    • tranquil.night says:

Is he afraid of the enemy or sending a message to another supposed nuclear ally? I don’t think any Indian dignitary will be receiving a bow. It’s not like over a million Indian conscripts died for imperialism as well or anything.

  7. beautyofreason says:

Has he even stated a reason for going to India?

Maybe he is going to give a conciliatory speech to the nation’s 15% Muslim population? I’m still waiting for one on Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity – any faith other than Islam really.

Maybe he is going to tell the poor people that they need to reduce their carbon foot print?

Maybe he is going to visit some old friends from his original travels to Pakistan?

Why is this man flaunting an extravagant trip after receiving one of the strongest blows from the electorate?

    • Adam Moreira says:

The topic is supposed to be the economy.

    • proreason says:

“Why is this man flaunting flatulating an extravagant trip after receiving one of the strongest blows from the electorate?”

Fixed a typo for you, cousin beautyof.

    • beautyofreason says:

This (reputedly) exorbitant level of spending must be justified if it is to evade criticism. Thus questions of motive and psychology are appropriate, Adam M. And you forget that this site is for casual banter about the topic at hand as much as it is for in depth discussion of legal nuances. We’re not in poly sci class.

      proreason – :)

  8. GL0120 says:

I just thought of a great opportunity that Obammy is creating with this trip – we could offshore him!

  9. Mae says:

Warships? Maybe he’s decided to forcibly install himself world emperor at the Taj Mahal. Look out, India!

In case he’s visiting to receive absolution, these are the words Emperor Shah Jahan (da guy what had it built) used to describe the building:

    Should guilty seek asylum here,
Like one pardoned, he becomes free from sin.
Should a sinner make his way to this mansion,
All his past sins are to be washed away.

Frankly, if it were up to me, non-absolution would be the order of the day for what he has done and will do to American freedom, economic and personal.

The ostentation of this trip is reprehensible. $200 million or not, it is way over the top. Dispute that, if you can.

  10. canary says:

Obama will leave Washington on November 5 and will arrive in Mumbai on November 6.
His first stop will be the iconic Taj Hotel, targeted by Pakistan-based terrorists in 2008. He will meet 26/11 survivors there.

He will then meet India Inc at the US-India Business Council.
On November 7, he will participate in Diwali celebrations with Mumbai school children.
The president will also interact with university students at the Town Hall, the highlight of the event will be his speech on democracy.
On November 8, Obama will be in the Capital. His first stop will be Humayun’s tomb and Raj Ghat. The same day he will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and address Parliament. He will also meet President Pratibha Patil. His day will end with the state dinner hosted by the Prime Minister and his wife.
Obama will leave Delhi for Jakarta on November 9 morning.

At least one item that it’s known will be brought up to him by the Indian Prime Minister is the “repatriation” of all social security taxes paid by Indian citizens who’ve come to America to work on 7 year visa work permits.

And were sure his personal movie production crew will go too and film him on an elephant ride.

Did Obama make 1 trip was it to Iraq? It was no big deal. What a selfish man. It is cheaper to invite leaders to the U.S. We are not animals who throw coconuts on people.

  11. canary says:

Read and puke. This explains all of Obama’s trips

The Audacity of Hope Barack Obama 2006 (excerpt from pg 332)

“Just as Michelle perhaps saw in me a life of adventure, risk, travel to exotic lands – a wider horizon that she had previously allowed herself.”

(excerpt from pg 329 – Obama describing Michelle when they first met at a job)

“She had attended Bryn Mawr Public Elementary School, gotten into Whitney Young Magnet School, and followed her brother to Princeton, where he had been a star on the basketball team. At Sidley
    she was part of the intellectual property group and specialized in entertainment law;
at some point, she said, she might have to consider moving to Los Angeles or New York to pursue her career.”

Fun, Travel, Adventure, Fortune, & the celebrity lifestyle. The tab is on us. Two more years to go, and Obama is going to milk it for everything he can get, and do everything in his power to destroy this country, to feed himself his needs. His need of revenge.

  12. Liberals Demise says:

This POS is taking CEO’s of businesses here over there to promote what?
What is the gubbamint (dingleBarry) doing with his fingers in something he knows absolutely NOTHING about? Pure bullshiite………another failure and waste of resources IMHO.

  13. Chase says:

A defense department spokesman has refuted the claim to the 34 warships as being from the U.S. Navy, according to the Stars and Stripes. The comment went on to say that foreign press exaggerate foreign presidential trips. I would have to say this time, this single time, that the White House’s denial of such inflated numbers is probably closer to the truth than that espoused by the Indian press.

Yes, Obamy visited Iraq at least once, during the summer of 2008 when he was still in candidate status. People from my office in the embassy thronged out into the hallway to see a presidential candidate walk by, while myself and one other associate enjoyed the temporary quiet and sanity of our desks.

    • proreason says:

Well, you never know the truth because the press is not only unreliable, they deliberately mislead.

So one is left to sift through the clues by oneself.

Here is what I know. This parasite has the biggest ego of any person to appear on earth in decades. He has stuffed Washington with thousands of white house staffers and is paying them outrageous sums. He cares nothing about taxpayer money. He thinks it is his money. The deficit has ballooned by trillions of dollars. He acts like and treats himself like the Holy Roman Emperor. His dog has been flown on jets.

I don’t doubt for a single second that this is the most sumptuous and outrageously expensive trip by any American of any occupation in any era of American history, perhaps world history. The mere fact that he would dare to allow it to be anything but austere in the face of the country’s wrath is proof positive of his contempt for us.

So, faced with what I know about the creature, I personally believe that the cost and extravagences are UNDERSTATED, not overstated.

    • Adam Moreira says:

But to believe that the costs are understated and not overstated requires one to discard all logic – a big stretch even with Obama in office.

34 warships? Where possibly can all those warships go and be serviced? That doesn’t make sense. 6 or 7 may make more sense. Show me the video showing 34 and I’ll believe it.

$200M a day? That also sounds like a big overstatement.

The problem is that the press failed to vet this statement. If it’s significantly more than what other Presidents have spent (correcting for inflation), clear evidence would have emerged by now.
