5 Students Lose Scholarships For Chanting

From a cheering Associated Press:

Southern Miss disciplines 5 students for heckling aimed at Kansas State player

March 20 AP

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Southern Mississippi has revoked the scholarships of five members of its pep band who took part in the heckling of a Kansas State basketball player at last Thursday’s NCAA men’s basketball tournament game.

We thought a college education was the most important thing in the world for the Left. Or have these students proved themselves to be hopeless cases?

The school announced Tuesday that the five students also were removed from the band and will be required to complete a two-hour cultural sensitivity training course this week.

So even though they will lose their scholarships and perhaps be unable to continue with their education, the college is determined to indoctrinate them a little more for free.

The students have not been identified.

Southern Miss issued an apology last week to Kansas State point guard Angel Rodriguez after he was the target of chants of “Where’s your green card?” during the Wildcats’ 70-64 second-round victory in the NCAA tournament

Video of the chanting went viral after being posted on YouTube that same day.

Luckily, college students never chant stupid or insulting things at sporting events.

“The students have been forthcoming, cooperative, contrite and sincerely remorseful. They acted rashly and inappropriately, and now see the gravity of their words and actions,” Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Joe Paul said in a statement. “This is a teachable moment, not only for these students but for our entire student body and those who work with them.” …

This sure is "a teachable moment." Apparently, one’s right to free speech stops at the college door. As does one’s ‘right to a college education’ that Mr. Obama is always talking about.

Rodriguez said last week that he accepted the apology because “there’s ignorant people and I know that’s not how they want to represent their university.”

Rodriguez said he doesn’t pay attention to that “nonsense, especially because Puerto Rico is a commonwealth, so we don’t need no type of papers.”

How proud Kansas State must be of this articulate young man.

One has to wonder how many deserving students get rejection letters every year so “student” athletes can “study”. It looks like there are five more casualties so one athlete doesn’t have to be “offended.” We’ve got great sports teams, but our college graduates don’t seem to be able to write a gramatically correct sentence.

Sports teams are what get the alumni donating. Half our colleges are sports teams with schools attached… but then again, at least the sports teams do something worthwhile; you can’t always say that for the schools.

I remember Big 10 rivals shouting equivalent things at (the time) U of M’s Rumeal Robinson. No punishment was handed out. Michigan won it all later that year. Folks seem to have recovered just fine.

Since money is involved, I’m sure lawyers will be lining up…

If they can’t indoctrinate you in public schools, colleges etc, they will get you with “sensitivity training.” Most likely, this will be done by a woman, a black woman, and absolutely a liberal. No matter who you are, or where you go, the re-education camps will get you at some point. Even if you DON’T do something wrong, it’s still part of your employment training. If you haven’t suffered through one of these racist, sexist, anti-American seminars, you don’t realize the extent of the grip liberals have on this country.
