90% Of Illegal Alien Kids Aren’t Showing Up For Hearings

From a gobsmacked Dallas Morning News:

Migrant children are no-shows at Dallas immigration hearings

By DIANNE SOLÍS | July 22, 2014

The youths were among 20 from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala who were set to appear in federal immigration court Tuesday for initial deportation hearings. But they weren’t there — 18 of the children whose cases were set to be heard didn’t show up Tuesday for court.

It was an absentee rate that federal Immigration Judge Michael Baird said was “highly unusual,” so high that he reset the hearings for Aug. 11 rather than possibly issuing a deportation order.

Judge Baird is probably mistaken. 18 out of 20 is 90%. Which many other reports have said is the average rate for no shows for deportation hearings.

Baird said he was concerned that the children may not have received proper notice of the hearings from the government.

Sure, that must be the problem.

Attorney Lynn Javier, with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, agreed that it was “prudent” to reset the hearings. The children are among about 100,000 juveniles who have entered the U.S. without a parent in the last two fiscal years, according to Homeland Security.

Wow, that’s a number we’ve never heard before. Of course, we have been told that over 150,000 will enter the US in the next fiscal year.

None of the children set to appear on Tuesday had an attorney, a swelling reality that inspired Dallas Catholic Bishop Kevin Farrell on Monday to appeal to attorneys to step up to provide free services…

So now we are supposed to believe they aren’t showing up at these hearing because they don’t have lawyers? In reality, this is just a push to funnel more money to La Raza and ACLU lawyers, who are also Democrat operatives.

The judge’s decision drew praise from local immigration lawyers. Paul Zoltan, an immigration attorney in Dallas, called the decision “classy,” saying the children would have time to get attorneys and any mailing errors could be corrected…

Yep, ‘classy’ is the word for it. And it’s this kind of ‘classy-ness’ that has given the DHS a backlog of over 375,000 cases.

And speaking of numbers. there is also this, via Breitbart:

Pew Research Report: Nearly 90% of Illegal Immigrant ‘Children’ Are Teenagers

By Tony Lee | July 22, 2014

Nearly all of the illegal immigrant children who have been apprehended along the U.S.-Mexico border in the last two years have been teenagers. According to a new Pew Research report, in fiscal year 2013, 91% of illegal immigrant "children" apprehended at the border were teenagers. Of the nearly 60,000 illegal immigrant "children" who were apprehended since October of last year, 84% have been teenagers.

And never mind that teenagers in Central America are practically adults by US standards.

Pew obtained the government figures through a Freedom of Information Act request…

Naturally. Our government wouldn’t want to tell us such things without a fight.

Pew also noted that while the number of children ages 12 and younger who have been apprehended has increased, "the number of apprehensions of children who are accompanied by a parent or guardian has increased at a far faster clip, nearly tripling (160% increase) in less than a year." …

Because, as we have noted, back in August 2013, Obama stopped the arrest and deportation of any ‘caretakers’ of illegal minors.

  1. Judge Fubar flounders around, asks for more doughnuts

  2. So why, pray tell, does Obama need $3 billion for more lawyers and judges if no one is showing up?

Sounds like another demonic-rat slush fund for the midterms, just like the “Stimulus Package’ of 2009. You rememeber, “Shovel Ready Jobs”, where all the money went to re-elect demonic-rats in 2010, but that, like everything this regime states as their purpose, failed too.

“So why, pray tell, does Obama need $3 billion for more lawyers and judges if no one is showing up?”

Didn’t you read the article? These poor darlings aren’t showing up because they don’t have lawyers. Which proves that we need more amnesty lawyers.

    • Yes, but i distinctly remember many groups pledging to represent these, ahem., “children” pro bono when the story first broke, but you don’t hear that anymore. Why work for free when the Feds will pay you $1200 an hour?

Google Results for “lawyers represent immigrants pro bono” are very interesting. There seems to be no shortage of them at all.
