New York Times: Wright Ad Is Shameful, Ugly

An editorial from those paragons of self-righteousness at the New York Times:

A Shameful, Ugly Ad

April 26, 2008

Manipulative. Shameful. Race-baiting. Those are the only words to describe a new television ad from the Republican Party running in North Carolina that attacks Senator Barack Obama as “too extreme” for the state.

Senator John McCain was right to condemn the ad and demand that state Republican Party leaders pull it — a demand they refused. As of Friday, the state party’s Web site was soliciting contributions to “keep this ad on the air.” The country cannot afford such divisiveness.

Unless Mr. McCain quickly gets control of his party, we fear there will be worse to come. (Just note the it’s- not-my-problem reaction of Senator Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina, who set a new low for implausible deniability by claiming that the ad by the G.O.P. in her home state has nothing to do with her own re-election bid.)

The ad is built around the well-known video clip of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. — Mr. Obama’s former pastor — declaring “God damn America.” We have said before that we find Rev. Wright’s oratory racist. And we have criticized Senator Obama for waiting too long to denounce it. His relationship with the Rev. Wright is undeniably a liability for his campaign.

But that’s not what this ad is about. The assertion that Mr. Obama is “just too extreme for North Carolina” is a clear bid to stir bigotry in a Southern state. The ad’s claim that its target is actually two Democratic gubernatorial candidates who endorsed Mr. Obama is ludicrous.

This is too familiar. In his 1990 re-election campaign, Senator Jesse Helms of North Carolina ran the infamous “hands” ad showing two white hands crumpling up a letter while the announcer intones: “You needed that job, and you were the best qualified. But they had to give it to a minority.” His challenger, Harvey Gantt, a former Charlotte mayor, was, of course, African-American.

Senator McCain was right when he said, of the new ad, that “there’s no place for that kind of campaigning — and the American people don’t want it, period.”

Now he needs to get his party to listen.

Coming from a “newspaper” that hates this country with a purple passion and which gleefully betrays its national security at every opportunity, this is high praise.

But even so, what incredible mendacity — even for the New York Times.

They have no shame. (And soon will have no readers.)

The NYSlimes as usual can’t or won’t destinguish the difference between the truth and a lie.

  2. war_monger

The NY times is so concerned for the health of the Republican party. I am sure that they only have the GOP and John McCain’s best interest at heart.

Uh, then kindly point out to me what the ad has to do with Sen. Dole.

What a bunch of idiots and their praise of McCain is so transparent. I can’t wait to see his face when they really turn on him and not just this “too old” crap. They’re going to smear him from A-1 to H-39 as soon as the democrat nominee is settled.

They’re already setting him up with the ” getting control of his party” remark. He doesn’t control us dumbass!

I saw the ad and I believe it’s true!
NYT doesn’t like to print the truth.

“They have no shame. (And soon will have no readers.)”
From the NY Post in an article about mass layoffs at the Times, ” That means the ax could fall on as many as 30 editorial people in the company’s first-ever mass firing of journalists in its 156-year history.”
With editorials like this I’m not surprised.

you know what somebody should take that clip of reverand wright saying “goddamn america” and make it into a funny music video set to techno music in the spirit of the “this is sparta video on youtube” (see below link) It would be really funny and im sure it would get a million hits on youtube.

Assertions and claims aside, we here at the NYT’s, haven’t seen it, and we hope you don’t see it.

This from the newspaper that ran the “General Betray-us” ad at a deep discount. Curious how they didn’t see anything wrong with that one.

  10. Noyzmakr

Twist that knife Diane. Great point!

  11. U NO HOO

“The country cannot afford such divisiveness.”

Yeah, what’s the deal with women and minorities running for office?

White men only. All others just divide us.

  12. wardmama4

I did not hear the word race in the ad, I did not hear an ethnic joke, a stereotype and all the people in the ad, other than Obama The Movement and (not-so-right) Rev Wright are white - so where is the racism, shame (they just make a truthful point that Obama The Movement sat through the God d*** America ’sermon’ and Purdue and Moore endorsed Obama The Movement) and what is ugly about it?

Oh yeah, I forgot the NYTs doesn’t like the truth and does think that is ugly - especially in the media, even more especially in politics and most especially when it is used against liberals.

-’Unless Mr. McCain quickly gets control of his party’- boy just because Dean, the DNC and the Dem candidates do what they please irregardless of what the voters and/or State Parties want - does not mean that the RNC or McAmnesty runs the Republicans - if they did, they’d be rolling in dough for putting forth someone everyone in the party adores. This is not about McAmnesty being weak as far as ‘controlling’ the Party, it is about thoughtful, independent voters (and State Party officials) who can and do think and act on their own best interest and beliefs.

Too damn bad that the Democrat Party is no longer in that mold too - and the NYTs is just their propaganda machine. . .

Great comments today! Diane makes a great point as does wardmama.

What the NYT’s doesn’t realize is that it is the Liberal agenda that is dividing this Country!

The NYT’s did open my eyes and made me realize just one thing………….Guess I better go the the NCGOP site and donate more money toward keeping this ad running. :-)

Jackie Mason, in case you haven’t seen:

Thanks for the link U NO HOO. Hell, Let’s nominate Jackie Mason for president.
He nailed Obama to the wall with his own words. Now that’s “must see TV”.

  16. retire05

The Democratic Party is beginning to fracture beyond repair.

Today, on Fox News, Bob Beckel (left wing politica hack who ran Mondale’s campaign) was asked about the NC GOP ad. He was so angry that the blood vessels in his neck looked as if they would rupture at any minute. He said that N. C. GOPers were a “bunch of racist crackers”.

Now, friends, that is an ad that I would pay to see. Bob Beckel calling North Carolinians “racist crackers”.

I guess the term “radical” as applied to Rev. Wright is the new catch phrase for the Democrats meaning “racist”. If we question Obama’s relationship to William Ayers, terrorist; Bernadette Dohrn, terrorist; Tony Rezko, Syrian scam artist and the PLO supporter that Obama enjoyed having dinner with at the PLO supporters home, are we now all “racists”? Or are we really “racist CRACKERS?”

    r05: The ‘rats are fracturing?

    GREAT!!!

Let the party of Sin, Sodomy and Surrender break into its constituent parts…the left is the most fun (and least dangerous) when they’re slaughtering each other!

  18. Noyzmakr

“…the party of Sin, Sodomy and Surrender…”

    Isn’t that from the motto of the democrat party? :-}

  19. Greg England

These criticisms of Obama from the GOP are far more principled than the attacks he has received from his own party.
The GOP judges him by the content of his character … the Dems appear to judge him by the colour of his skin.

As Rush points out, the racism is coming from the left.

  20. Greg England

Not on topic, I know …

But I have finally decided to take the plunge and link my Townhall blog to Sweetness-Light … given that Sweetness-Light suffers less from trolls than Townhall this is hopefully a wise move.

    ——————-

    Back on topic:

I personally would find it an insult of Obama if his dodgy associations were NOT questioned by the media. How insulting is it for a man to be given a free pass by the media just because he fits their template of the 1st black man to become president? That’s real racism.

Objectively speaking (given that I am not a liberal), Obama deserves credit for his rhetorical skills, and hence leadership capabilities, but he needs to mature as a politician and understand a bit more how the world works. There are plenty of people with dodgy associations who have nevertheless made a successful career in politics because …

It’s not ideal though, is it?

Fox News has Wright’s sermon in its entirity, Its worse than I thought it could be.

  23. Noyzmakr

I just saw some video of Wright giving a sermon in Dallas today on my local NBC affiliate, but I can’t find a copy of the video anywhere yet. I suppose someone will post it soon.

He seemed to be talking trash about Obama. Not by name, but you knew who he was talking about when he said something to the effect of Obama’s wife being the first black woman who sleeps with a black man in the white house or something like that. I only caught the tail end of the report.

    EDIT UPDATE:
Here’s a link to the story in the Fort Worth Star Telegram, but no video yet.

  24. thetimeisright

Dez thanks for the link to the serman wright gave. I noticed he uses parts of the bible and not all of the scripture. He is true to his reving name rev rev rev an only part of the scripture. This is very dangerous. I will give one example he used Malachi 3:6 he says an i quote For I am the Lord I change not an went on a rant after that. Well here is what the King James Bible says.

Malachi 3:6 For I am the Lord I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed…

This alone shows he is just a actor. A true rev all he can do is rev up a crowd an send them home with the wrong message…

An he has muslim guards for his portection as of now from this morning spectacle
