Afghan Inmates Passed Messages Via Korans

From the Agence France-Presse:

Afghan jail inmates passed messages to each other via Korans, US military says

February 22, 2012

The US military removed Korans from a US-run prison in Afghanistan because inmates were suspected of using the sacred book to pass messages to each other, American officials say.

The Korans and other religious material were later burned at the Bagram airfield, causing outrage in Afghanistan and triggering a protest Monday with petrol bombs hurled outside the sprawling US base, which includes a large prison.

"The material was removed because there was a concern that the detainees were communicating with each other," one US official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told AFP.

But the Korans and other texts should have been removed from the prison in a more appropriate manner, two US officials said

We haven’t checked with our Imam, yet. But wouldn’t writing on a Koran constitute defacing it?

And, if these Korans had been desecrated by being written on, would not the only appropriate action would be to burn them, according to Islamic teachings? How could they have done anything more appropriate?

In fact, the punishment for desecrating Korans is punished by imprisonment in many Muslim countries. And it is even punishable by death in Afghanistan, Somalia and Pakistan.

By the way, this article from France’s AFP seems to be the only report that the Muslim inmates were using these Korans to communicate with each other. And no US outlets seem to have picked their story up. This version, for instance, comes via the Australia’s Herald Sun.

Why isn’t our stateside media reporting this news?

Annoymoose posted the original article on this. The article had a video of top General Allen apologizing.
I posted in regards to the apology, but I think it’s been removed.

So, this points out different spin, than accidental thinking it was garbage. And hopefully, the military copied the messages before they burned the evidence.

This is America’s new way of spitting & throwing stones at our U.S. Soldiers as they did to our U.S. Soldiers who fought and died in Vietnam.

Another chapter in a confusing religion.

Supposedly can’t show images of Muhammed. Oh really? Since when? He is depicted by muslims all the time: http://www.zombietime.com/moha.....c_mo_full/

Isn’t it strange that in heaven, they are allowed unprecedented debauchery: sexual, materialistic, hedonistic, gluttonous, drunken debauchery? Why are such things forbidden on earth but rewarded in heaven? Strange that the suiciders visit prostitutes, get drunk, do drugs, and abandon their religion before they die. Why? Aren’t those things in heaven waiting for you? Why throw out your life’s teachings 2 hours before death?

Why would god reward people for murdering his own creation?

And the act of cancellation, meaning, the Koran can cancel out the dictate of a previous chapter with a more current chapter.
Chapter 1: “Love all your neighbors as yourself.”
Chapter 6: “Kill and bind all your neighbors.”

Chapter 6, the most recent, cancels out chapter 1. This is what drives me nuts about liberals. They keep quoting cancelled-out chapters to prove it is a religion of peace.

    Man Fired for Burning Koran
    NBCNewYork: http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news.....09499.html

A man who burned pages from the Quran outside a planned mosque near Ground Zero on Saturday has been fired from his job with NJ Transit, the agency said Wednesday.
–Republican Gov. Chris Christie agreed with the transit agency’s decision.

Man with kids, worked 11 for N.J. public transit, didn’t file the proper paperwork telling his nanny that he was engaging in free speech, fired. –And Republicans sided with the muslims, instead of an AMERICAN exercising his rights. wow.

“NJ Transit’s code of ethics states that employees must give notice to an ethics liaison officer before participating in political activities.”

Should that apply to the man’s off duty political or religious activities. Gov Chris Christie is a pansy.

Aaarrrggghhh!!! The point of this episode isn’t about the fairness of the reporting or the hypocrisy of Muslims or grovelling apologies to people who don’t deserve them, its about the stupidity of some soldier chucking a bunch of defaced Korans in a bag and giving them to some more Muslims to dispose of. Of course they’re going to look inside the bag and of course they’re going to be upset and of course the Taliban will exploit the propaganda opportunity and of course we’ll end up looking bad because no one who has to say sorry for someone else’s piece of rockheaded stupidity can ever look good.

Its the stupidity, stupid. Every person and every army sometimes does stupid things, the problem is doing more smart things than stupid things and we seem determined to never learn, to never adapt, to never consider any viewpoint except our own and to just stay stupid, even at the cost of self-preservation. Well, that’s fine. Carry on. But don’t expect to win any wars that way.

To be fair, when, as at Bagram, most of your personnel live behind walls and wire and have air conditioning and ice cream and steak and lobster and live in a little bubble of America plonked into the middle of Kabul and never see a local who doesn’t work for them, its hard to expect them to have much cultural awareness or sensitivity. If TE Lawrence had stayed in Cairo drinking gin slings instead of learning Arabic, putting his ass into a camel saddle and getting out there, you wouldn’t have expected him to be too successful either.

Obama expresses ‘deep regret’ over Koran burning
US President Barack Obama sent Afghan President Hamid Karzai a letter of apology over the burning of copies of the Koran overseen by a US officer at a US military base, Karzai’s office said Thursday.

Obama said the incident was unintentional and pledged a full investigation, the president’s office said, as fierce anti-US protests swept the nation in which at least 14 people have died, including two American soldiers.

“I wish to express my deep regret for the reported incident,” Obama wrote in the letter presented to Karzai by US ambassador Ryan Crocker. “I extend to you and the Afghan people my sincere apologies.”

“The error was inadvertent; I assure you that we will take the appropriate steps to avoid any recurrence, to include holding accountable those responsible,” the letter said.

    or

    how about this letter.

“turn over the head of the murderer in 72 hours or i will send Seal Team 6 in to cut off your b..ls..”

  5. beautyofreason

The Muslims are so pious that they prosecuted a writer in Afghanistan who dared to translate the Koran without providing the original Arabic script on the opposite page. These nuts will never be pleased; each apology is a concession that builds their propaganda. I suggest next time that Obama apologize to the American people for authorizing the burning of Bibles. After all, most of our population is Christian – though you wouldn’t know it from his speeches.
