Iran Marks UN Deadline With Strident Defiance

From the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA):

Nuclear energy will bring tremendous advancement to nation: Ahmadinejad

Wednesday February 21, 2007

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said here Wednesday that access to the full nuclear fuel cycle will move forward the Iranian nation by 50 years.

Ahmadinejad, who is currently in northern Gilan province for a three-day visit, was addressing local residents of Siahkal city, located east of the provincial capital Rasht.

"We can understand the significance of the nuclear issue from the opposition raised by corrupt powers," he said.

Speaking of the importance of the country’s nuclear program, he said "access to peaceful nuclear energy is so important for the country’s progress and power that there would be no need for the country’s two five-year plans if it has the ability to produce nuclear energy."
"It can generously cancel all other activities for the next 10 years if it has the ability to produce nuclear energy," he added.

The president, addressing corrupt powers said, "Know that we will continue all plans to achieve progress with full power and strength, with the grace of God and in cooperation with the nation and the government."

He said that Iran will exert its nuclear right and use various technology to achieve its goal within the shortest possible time.

He then urged Iranians to strengthen their national unity and contribute to the development of the entire country…

And from Iran’s Fars News Agency:

Powers cannot Stop Iran’s Progress

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency) – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Wednesday said that train of the Iranian nation’s progress is racing ahead and the world powers cannot stop it even if they mobilize all their power and possibilities.

Addressing a fervent congregation of the public in the town of Langroud in Iran’s northern province of Gilan on the second leg of his 25th tour of the different Iranian provinces, Ahmadinejad said that arrogant powers intend to prevent nations’ progress through different means of deceit and fraud.

He further underscored that his country will move on the path of nuclear progress to the end, reminding that the Iranian nation does not care for the opposition shown by its enemies since the era of bullying has come to its end.

The president said enemies’ opposition to Iran’s acquisition of the nuclear technology has turned the country into a paradigm for the other world nations.

Noting the recent progresses made by young Iranian scientists in different scientific and technological fields, including treatment of spinal cord injuries, discovery of AIDS control drug, production of new synthetic medicines and great achievements in the agricultural field, he said that train of the Iranian nation’s progress is racing ahead and the world powers can never stop it even if they mobilize all their power and possibilities.

Elsewhere, in the town of Lahijan in the same province, the Iranian president stressed that his nation will not withdraw from the country’s nuclear rights.

He said Iranians will stand up to the end of the road and will not fear from any bullying power, stressing that the Islamic Republic will not give up even an iota of the country’s nuclear rights.

These are the people Ms. Clinton insists we need to "talk to."

By the way, today is the UN’s deadline for implementing sanctions on Iraq. The media and of course the UN seem to want to ignore that minor detail.

But the original UN sanctions were supposed to go into effect on December 23, 2006. Instead, Iran was given a "grace period" of 60 more days. For more "talks."

Today, Wednesday, February 21, 2007 is 60 days later. Iran is two months closer to having a nuclear bomb.

Where are the UN sanctions?
