Al Jazeera Whips Up Phony ‘Bibles’ Row

From the terrorist front, Al Jazeera:

Probe call in Afghan ‘convert’ row

A former Afghan prime minister has called for an inquiry after Al Jazeera broadcast footage showing Christian US soldiers appearing to be preparing to try and convert Muslims in Afghanistan.

Ahmed Shah Ahmedzai said there must be a "serious investigation" after military chaplains stationed in the US air base at Bagram were filmed discussing how to distribute copies of the Bible printed in the country’s main Pashto and Dari languages.

In one recorded sermon, Lieutenant-Colonel Gary Hensley, the chief of the US military chaplains in Afghanistan, tells soldiers that, as followers of Jesus Christ, they all have a responsibility "to be witnesses for him".

"The special forces guys – they hunt men basically. We do the same things as Christians, we hunt people for Jesus. We do, we hunt them down," he says.

"Get the hound of heaven after them, so we get them into the kingdom. That’s what we do, that’s our business."

Under the US military code of conduct, armed forces on active duty are prohibited from trying to convert a person’s faith.

Ahmed Shah Ahmedzai told Al Jazeera from Kabul on Monday: "This is a complete deviation from what they [the US military] are supposed to be doing.

"I don’t think even the US constitution would allow what they are doing … it is completely against all regulations.

"This is very damaging for diplomatic relations between the two counties … everyone knows people are very conservative here, very faithful to Islam. They will never accept any other religion.

"Someone who leaves Islam is sentenced very severely – the death penalty [is imposed].

"There must be a serious investigation now that it has come out into the public and [into the] press," he said.

Sayed Aalam Uddin Asser,  of the Islamic Front for Peace and Understanding in Kabul, told Al Jazeera: "It’s a national security issue … our constitution says nothing can take place in Afghanistan against Islam.

"If people come and propaganda other religions which have no followers in Afghanistan [then] it creates problems for the people, for peace, for stability.

The footage, shot about a year ago by Brian Hughes, a documentary maker and former member of the US military who spent several days in Bagram near Kabul, was obtained by Al Jazeera’s James Bays, who has covered Afghanistan extensively.

In other footage captured at Bagram, Sergeant Jon Watt, a soldier set to become a military chaplain, said during a Bible study class: "I also want to praise God because my church collected some money to get bibles for Afghanistan. They came and sent the money out."

It is not clear that the Bibles were distributed to Afghans, but Hughes said that none of the people he recorded in a series of sermons and Bible study classes appeared to able to speak Pashto or Dari.

Hughes said: "The only reason they would have these documents there was to distribute them to the Afghan people and I knew it was wrong, and I knew that filming it … documenting it would be important."

It is not clear if the presence of the bibles and practice of calling on soldiers to be "witnesses" for Jesus continues, but they were filmed a year ago despite regulations by the US military’s Central Command that expressly forbid "proselytising of any religion, faith or practice".

It is not clear any of the local language Bibles were distributed to Afghans
But in another piece of footage, the chaplains appear to understand their actions were in breach of a regulation known as General Order Number One.

"Do we know what it means to proselytise?" Captain Emmit Furner, a military chaplain, says to the gathering.

"It is General Order Number One," an unidentified soldier replies.

But Watt says "you can’t proselytise, but you can give gifts".

The footage also suggests US soldiers gave out bibles in Iraq.

In an address at Bagram, Watt is recorded as saying: "I bought a carpet and then I gave the guy a Bible after I conducted my business.

"… the expressions that I got from the people in Iraq [were] just phenomenal, they were hungry for the word."

Questioned about the footage, US colonel Greg Julian told Al Jazeera: "Most of this is taken out of context … this is irresponsible and inappropriate journalism.

"This footage was taken a year ago … the bibles were taken into custody and not distributed.

"There is no effort to go out and proselytise to Afghans."

The footage has surfaced as Barack Obama, the US president, prepares to host Hamid Karzai, Afghanistan’s president, at a summit on Tuesday and Wednesday focusing on how to tackle al-Qaeda and Taliban bases dotted along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Notice this little detail, buried near the end of the article:

This footage was taken a year ago … the bibles were taken into custody and not distributed.

Even the America-haters at Reuters grudgingly reported:

U.S. denies letting troops convert Afghans

By Peter Graff – Mon May 4

… But a U.S. military spokeswoman, Major Jennifer Willis, said the comments from the sermon were taken out of context and chaplains were told to make clear to soldiers that they could not proselytize while serving.

She said the bibles had been mailed to a soldier by a church back home in the United States and were never distributed.

"That specific case involved a soldier who brought in a donation of translated bibles that were sent to his personal address by his home church. He showed them to the group and the chaplain explained that he cannot distribute them," she said.

"The translated bibles were never distributed as far as we know, because the soldier understood that if he distributed them he would be in violation of general order 1, and he would be subject to punishment."

She said she was aware of at least one case of a soldier who had been punished for giving out coins that had biblical inscriptions on them.

Maj. Willis is undoubtedly referencing this incident, which we posted about almost exactly a year ago, and which we strongly suspect originated from the same documentary.

But do you think Al Jazeera’s TV report which was beamed all over the Middle East mentioned any of these denials?

We do agree, however, with this comment from the Al Jazeera article:

"There must be a serious investigation now that it has come out into the public and [into the] press," he said.

In fact, maybe Al Jazeera should be banned from broadcasting in the US, to punish them for their propaganda.

And maybe Mr. Hughes should get a talking to, as well.

You mean Al Jazeera… *gasp* LIED… apparently proselytizing is only allowed when you’re doing it by the sword and yelling out “Allahu Akbar” before you offer to slaughter the person and their family… people talk about Darfur all the time, but never seem to mention the MUSLIMS perpetrating the violence… don’t even get me started on their “coverage” of Israel

There is a concerted movement (outside the military) to eliminate the Chaplaincy altogether. Things quieted somewhat during the Bush administration, but those of us who are personally impacted by the ministry of military chaplains and pay attention to politics have known the effort would redouble as soon as BO took office. Christians must be silenced, marginalized and destroyed. The liberal political agenda here closely parallels that of the Jihadis. Evil will use an Armani clad intellectual or a rag-clad, knife wielding ignoramus. Evil doesn’t discriminate.

Grits – you are exactly correct evil does not discriminate. And the “religion of peace” which promotes beheading, lying (as long it moves your cause forward), misogyny and a host of other evils is best stopped by those who love Christ. Sadly it seems there are those in BHO’s administration who are attempting to do all they can to stop the normal pattern of those who are Christians in the armed forces, namely tell others about Him.

I came across a very interesting video on low birth rates in Europe and its implications on the future of Europe. According to the video, Germany has already conceded that it will be a Muslim nation in a few short years. And it will spread across the continent like the plague.

  3. Oh. Oh. OH. I ingested the red pill, so I understand, now.

Them dirty christianistas and their bible heresy: BAD. INVESTIGATE!

Obama continuing the hated Boooshitler’s policy of air raiding villages and killing civilians: eh… not so bad.

Besides, ol’ Al Jazeera is just as honest and reputable as the Associated Press & Rueters.

    (!)

Don’t forget to “probe” all the Islam conversions happening in American prisons.

  5. Reality Bytes

You got us! We want Muslims to convert. Then maybe they’ll be less likely to strap a bomb to themselves & blow up a bunch of their own, or worse our guys.

The difference between Muslims & Christians converting people to their faith, Christians use the power of love while Muslims employ the fear of death.

    That’s A Fact Jack!!!

  6. BatK

Muslims have no respect for anyone who is not a Muslim… they are subhuman, and thus, they can lie, cheat, steal, etc unless you pay some insane tax, and then you’re just considered a dhimmi, or second class citizen living under Muslim dominion… their book is also VERY loving towards the Jews… it’s not “extremists” who hate vilely hate Jews and Christians… it’s any good Muslim who practices what their book preaches

    • Liberals Make Great Speedbumps

Judging by the number of Muslims killed by other Muslims, I don’t think their level of respect for other Muslims is too great either BatK.

“sons of pigs and monkeys” to be exact..

  8. proreason

The way things are going, our American press will soon be stoopin to the level of Al Jazeera.

    ….oh, wait a minute

  9. BatK

when do you think the Protocols of the Elders of Zion will become required reading… assuming the Qur’an isn’t already?

  10. GetBackJack

Seems to be I remember any number of stories over the past eight years administration where Chaplain after Chaplain was called on the carpet or summarily dismissed because he/she referenced Jesus (Christ) and it was made damn clear God is No Longer Welcome (unless it’s A;ah or a pagan god). I seriously doubt there are any authentic Christians in the ranks, let alone Officer Corps to evangelize these heathen boy/goat loving misogynist medieval rag heads from the 16th Century. Besides, under the Obama Administration we know God Is Dead and the Rapture has had TARP Funds pushed on it until now it don’t work. So .. what’s the big deal?

Now, if the troops were trying to hook up their wimmen with internet connections, access to the news and information of the 21st Century or even bring in trousers for them to wear, well … that’d be cause for a flogging.

Jesus just called & He didn’t sound too happy but not to worry, when He comes back, He’s gonna straighten everything out.

true. Every religion can practice in America but Christianity that found it.

“Someone who leaves Islam is sentenced very severely – the death penalty [is imposed].

true!!!! . At least the Al Jazeera prostitutes got that right. The terrorists have made it clear, this is a holy war. Convert the world to their only god, or kill them.

Christians don’t make death warrants on their heads.

Spy Huges?…… Hughes secretly spying and aiding the the enemy and endangering American U.S. soldiers, should be charged by the U.S. for treason.

but Christians know they don’t have to lift a finger or say a word to swine of his kind.

Solution? Outlaw Christians to serve in the U.S. Military. Discharge them for religious belief’s.
And then Obama can start The Draft for swine like Hughes and foreignors living in this country. A free ticket back to their homeland.

Please, please, please – let us not offend Al Jazeera! Have we become even more insensitive? Repent! Repent!

    • BatK

yes, by all means, let’s not offend the people that want to kill us… that might make them so mad that they’d want to…oh wait

  14. Colonel1961

Glad you understand, BatK – if we don’t offend them, they’ll simply go back to being the peaceful, loving, thoughtful society that has so long characterized their existence…
