American ‘Poor’ Have TVs, DVRs, Cell Phones, AC

From Breitbart:

Americans in ‘Poverty’ Have TVs, VCRs, Cell Phones, Air Conditioning

By William Bigelow | September 12, 2013

American poverty just ain’t what it used to be.

A new report from the Census Bureau found that 80.9% of households considered poverty stricken have cell phones along with their landline phones, and 58.2% have computers. 96.1% of those in “poverty” have televisions, and 83% have some sort of DVR.

The percentage owning refrigerators? 97.8%

Gas or electric stoves? 96.6%

Microwaves? 93.2%

Air conditioning? Over 83%

Washer? 68.7%

Dryer? 65.3%

People still don’t mind washing dishes, apparently; only 44.9% surveyed had a dishwasher.

This echoes what Robert Rector at the Heritage Foundation has been telling us for years, with his studies on American poverty.

There used to be a popular saying in Italy: ‘In America, the poor people have to wash their own Cadillacs.’ Now it would probably be, ‘In America poor people have to watch measly 46 inch flat screen TVs and buy crappy iPhone 5cs.

(sound of ripping a phone book in half, bare handed)

Yeah, and who is paying for them to have cable and free cell phones and government housing for a dollar a month?

I wonder how many of these people would still be “poor” in a year if you gave them $250,000 in cash right now. Similar to what happened with all the “poor” people in New Orleans. There’s just as much poverty, crime, drugs, murder, etc. there now as there was before each person was given a pile of cash. Homes that were build new 6 years ago already look like the derelict rubble that was washed away by Katrina.

Many loterry winners are right back where they started in 5-7 years, because they don’t understand that money is a tool, and upkeep, taxes and insurance has to be paid every year on that $3 million house and 5 cars.

It never seems to dawn on them that they really don’t need those first class flights, Dom Perignon and over-sized gold chains with their initials in diamonds. Until they’re broke again that is and they pawn them for a 1/10 of what they paid. It doesn’t matter. it wasn’t their money anyway.

People don’t respect things they don’t earn. You can give them a new house to live in and they’ll be pulling off the siding for wood for the heater the next winter. (I have actually seen this happen…and they lived next to a forest, but were just too lazy to chop wood! it was easier to pull off the siding even though that made the house draftier. This really happened here. IDIOTS!!!)

Handouts don’t help people. They keep them in poverty. Unless you make them earn it.

I wonder if they count those with smart phones or tablets in the 58% with computers. I’ve seen a lot of ghetto trotters with pads and/or smart phones. shouldn’t that count as a computer?

Noyz – “over-sized gold chains with their initials in diamonds”

while channel surfing I saw lil wayne on tv the other night. all teeth diamond encrusted. class !!
if the $$$ stopped tomorrow, I wonder about the cost vs recompense for the grille.
