I'll second that TheChicagoWay. I live West of the city and commute to Chicago and out here and along my commute I see more lawns supporting local candidate signs than Presidential candidate signs. And I've talked to a lot of folks who are very unhappy with our Senator.

Hey, a little obama covers alot of rust . The above Volvo was due for major compaction by our recycle friends, a new suit, a little paint, and it looks Presidential. Haw ! Lib's never die, they just change coats .

"From what I’ve seen, the only town that has a proliferation of Obama signage is the Peoples Republic of Oak Park…"

What Mr. Hemingway described as "the land of wide lawns and narrow minds."

There HAS been a noticeable lack of political signs and bumper stickers in the Chicago area. Both McCain and Obama... I am the only person in my 82 home subdivision who has a political sign in the yard. (Guess who?)....It has been up since early September and remains untouched.... (I wouldn’t dare put a sticker on my car, I like the paint to remain "keyless", thank you very much.....) From what I've seen, the only town that has a proliferation of Obama signage is the Peoples Republic of Oak Park...

Also, FYI....

My voting district is quite conservative. (Our elections are held at the golf course clubhouse.) As usual, I arrived at my polling place at the opening time of 6:00 AM.... In past elections, presidential or no, you could simply walk right in and vote. Not this morning… It was a good hour before I got out of there….I find this to be most encouraging….I'm not saying that Illinois is going to go "red", but my mostly conservative neighbors sure do seem "energized", and I do not think it is for the "One".

We can only hope and pray.....

Lived in Chi-town for 20 years. Lots of black/white antipathy there. Have no idea how it will turn out.

I feel like we’re all in that scene in The Godfather where Sonny, Mike, Tom, Tessio, and Clemenza are eating Chinese food waiting for the phone to ring to tell them where Sollozzo’s sitdown is going to take place.

"That doesn’t look like an Illinois plate to me…."

That photo is just meant to represent a car with bumper stickers.

Note that the campaign stickers in the photo above, give the entire car the appearance of being a medium blue color.
Perhaps the car owner believes in the old advertising slogan:
"There's something about an aqua Volvo man."

(sorry, couldn't resist...)

There were plenty of bumper stickers in 2004 around here. This year next to none. No yard signs either. I would say something like 10 to 15 percent of the cars had stickers for one candidate or the other in 2004. My neighborhood had a lot of W04 stickers. This year nothing. I have found two cars in the whole neighborhood with stickers. I might see one or two cars on my commute on two very busy freeways that have a sticker. I am certainly not seeing any rousing groundswell of Obamamania in this part of California.
