AP Claims Americans Are ‘High On Obama’

From his relentless propagandists at the Associated Press:

AP Poll: Americans high on Obama, direction of US

By Ron Fournier And Trevor Tompson, Associated Press Writers

WASHINGTON – For the first time in years, more Americans than not say the country is headed in the right direction, a sign that Barack Obama has used the first 100 days of his presidency to lift the public’s mood and inspire hopes for a brighter future.

Intensely worried about their personal finances and medical expenses, Americans nonetheless appear realistic about the time Obama might need to turn things around, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll. It shows most Americans consider their new president to be a strong, ethical and empathetic leader who is working to change Washington.

Nobody knows how long the honeymoon will last, but Obama has clearly transformed the yes-we-can spirit of his candidacy into a tool of governance. His ability to inspire confidence — Obama’s second book is titled "The Audacity of Hope" — has thus far buffered the president against the harsh political realities of two wars, a global economic meltdown and countless domestic challenges.

"He presents a very positive outlook," said Cheryl Wetherington, 35, an independent voter who runs a chocolate shop in Gardner, Kan. "He’s very well-spoken and very vocal about what direction should be taken." …

[T]he percentage of Americans saying the country is headed in the right direction rose to 48 percent, up from 40 percent in February. Forty-four percent say the nation is on the wrong track.

Not since January 2004, shortly after the capture of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, has an AP survey found more "right direction" than "wrong direction" respondents.

So far, Obama has defied the odds by producing a sustained trend toward optimism. It began with his election…

Obama is not the first president who sought to tap the deep well of American optimism — the never-say-die spirit that Americans like to see in themselves.

Even as he briefly closed the nation’s banks, Franklin Delano Roosevelt spoke in the first days of his presidency of the "confidence and courage" needed to fix the U.S. economy. "Together we cannot fail," he declared…

But once again, if you look at who was actually polled you find that the survey was heavily skewed towards Democrats:

Do you consider yourself a Democrat, a Republican, an Independent, or none of these?
IF “Democrat,” ASK: Do you consider yourself a strong or moderate Democrat?
IF “Republican,” ASK: Do you consider yourself a strong or moderate Republican?
IF “Independent” OR “None,” ASK: Do you lean more toward the Democrats or the
Republicans?

The totals?

PARTY ID WITH LEANERS:

Democrats 46%

Republicans 28%

The remaining 26% were “independents” who just happen to love Mr. Obama.

Where do these pollsters find these splits in a country that has for many years now been split nearly 50-50 along party lines?

This is a rhetorical question, of course.

For anyone discouraged by this latest piece of fiction, look at this Rasmussen poll: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll.

I call it “When Hope Meets Change.”

  2. BatK says:

I learned to stop believing anything the media “reported” a while ago

  3. proreason says:

    It’s an AP “poll”.

Translation: It’s an AP “editorial”. You don’t even need to think about it. There are so many ways to twist these things that it isn’t worth discussing them anymore.

The only believable polls anymore are the internal polls done by politicians for INTERNAL consumption. But you rarely see them, and when you do, rest assured that they show something they want you to know, and only the parts they want you to know.

EVERY poll printed in the newspaper or by the msm is a lie. That goes for Fox as well.

    Every “journalist” is biased.

Ergo, every report is biased, and a report on a poll is no different than a report on The Morons sexy chest.

  4. BatK says:

I think we switched from “biased” to propaganda after the 2004 elections

  5. 12 Gauge Rage says:

The only Americans high on Obama were the ones already high from smoking a big ol’ doobie before they went to vote. These poll takers didn’t ask me for my opinion because I don’t fit the profile of all the other Obama kool-aid drinkers.

      Americans high on Obama

You hit it 12 Gauge – my first thought reading that was – Well now we at least know the reason they act so stupid.

It’s my belief that Hitler had the same euphoria / HIGH according to Himmler, Jodl, Time Ragazine, Fatso and all the other good little nazis with a gun to their heads.

  7. oki2 says:

Just this morning my local news actually reported that The One has a 64 percent approval rating. I watched closely but couldn’t see any citations so not sure where they got their data. What is the strategy here. Is there some sort of hidden number that when they report it, people will all suddenly approve of him? “Oh hey, the news just said he has a 89.5 percent approval rating? I NOW APPROVE! LEAD ME OH GREAT ONE!”

  8. Liberals Demise says:

Clinton just licked his index finger and saw which way the wind blew…..that was the direction he went.
Obots have the “WHEEL O’ APPROVAL” where the numbers start at 65%…..
“Keep it simple for the stupid”

  11. David says:

With “Independent leaners” their total sums to 74% that leaves 26% (almost as much as the republican part of the pool) as what … Green party… those to ignorant to know what they think?

    • Liberals Demise says:

Fox News just reported that the Washington Post / ABC poll shows a negative rating of 57% versus a 42% pro rating. These two bastions for sleeping at the wheel media, are anything but anti Obama…….

So here is a hint to the libtards……….don’t smoke your own stash!!

    • BatK says:

Was it Goebbels who said if you lie to the people enough times, eventually they’ll believe it?

catie, more like a nation of lemmings. As my very openly liberal English teacher once said in college: ‘Ignorance is running rampant through this world.’ I couldn’t agree with him more.

What’s sad to me is that people know more about who is sleeping with whom in Hollywood than about American or world history

Yes we can WHAT? Screw up America?

  16. BillK says:

Obama’s simply doing what was already in progress… transforming a “Yes we can!” America into a “Here, let Mommy cut your meat veggies for you” society.

Don’t think she understands what an independent voter is.
