All this talk about "reforming our broken health care system" makes it sounds like there is currently a national health care system, and all we're doing is changing a few of the laws that currently regulate it.

"In the ads, private citizens describe problems they’ve had with the medical system and say it’s time for action"

and how on earth does anybody in their right mind believe that the government will fix those "problems".

Oh, I forgot, the "problems" they want fixed is the fact they have to PAY for health insurance.

And the fix is for YOU to pay for it instead.

From a breathless AP:

House health plan would tax the rich, require employers and individuals to get health coverage

By Ricardo Alonso-Zaldivar and Erica Werner

WASHINGTON (AP) -- House Democrats on Tuesday rolled out a far-reaching $1.5 trillion plan that for the first time would make health care a right and a responsibility for all Americans, with medical providers, employers and the wealthiest picking up most of the tab...

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_HEALTH_CARE_OVERHAUL

Who, prey tell, is going to provide this care, given the huge number of physician's offices and hospitals that will close or be forced out of business as their costs exceed the payments the new Federal plan pays?

Recall one reason costs are already so high is that Medicare payments don't come anywhere close to even covering the costs for procedures, let alone allow practices to make enough profit to keep their lights on; the loss has to be made up somewhere.

So yes, Waxman is absolutely right - we never did think we'd see the destruction of the American medical system in our lifetimes.

I wish someone would have the guts to mandate that Congress be forced into the same medical plan they're forcing everyone else into and be forced to see the same physicians.

The President continues to reflect his complete lack of understanding of economics as well:

But backers of a public plan - including Obama - say it would provide healthy competition for the insurance industry.

Hmmm, "competition" paid for by stealing money from the business you're competing against.

Funny, when Organized Crime did that it was somehow "bad."

Of course anything we or any Republican has to say about it is just a masturbatory exercise anyway, given we don't have the votes to stop anything the Democrats propose, and no Democrat will dare vote against the Chosen One's wishes.

You've also got to love the extreme backloading of costs, so the really big tax increases won't come until Obama is well into his second term.

That's when the rationing will have to start.
