AP: Bill ‘Preventing Big Tax Hikes’ Passes

From a suddenly tone changing Associated Press:

Bill preventing big tax hikes heads to Obama

By Stephen Ohlemacher, Associated Press

WASHINGTON – A massive bipartisan tax package preventing a big New Year’s Day tax hike for millions of Americans is on its way to President Barack Obama for his signature.

The measure would extend tax cuts for families at every income level, renew jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed and enact a new one-year cut in Social Security taxes that would benefit nearly every worker who earns a wage.

The AP doesn’t even mention ‘the rich.’ Again, what a dramatic change in tone.

In a remarkable show of bipartisanship, the House gave final approval to the measure just before midnight Thursday, overcoming an attempt by rebellious Democrats who wanted to impose a higher estate tax than the one Obama agreed to. The vote was 277-148, with each party contributing an almost identical number of votes in favor (the Democrats, 139 and the Republicans, 138)

You can bet these final numbers were no accident.

The bill’s cost, $858 billion, would be added to the deficit, a sore spot among budget hawks in both parties.

"I know that we are going to borrow every nickel in this bill," Hoyer lamented

And we know how the Democrat leadership hates that.

Many House Democrats wanted a higher estate tax, one that would allow couples to pass only $7 million tax-free, taxing anything above that amount at a 45 percent rate. They argued that the higher estate tax would affect only 6,600 of the wealthiest estates in 2011 and would save $23 billion over two years.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., called the estate tax the "most egregious provision" in the bill and held a vote that would have imposed the higher estate tax. It failed, 194-233…

Ms. Pelosi and her fellow Democrats would have stripped the bedclothes off of Ebenezer Scrooge’s bed as soon as his body was cold.

Pelosi worded her outrage to sound like the 6,600 wealthiest people in this country don’t pay taxes, and 166 million people are having to pay for it. I can see her running for President, because the Democrats lover her deception.

The description of Pelosi as “the wicked witch of
the west” gives wicked a bad name.

    Republicans. Feet. Shoot.

  4. canary says:

Pelosi, Reid, & wealthy Dems could lesson their grief & sorrow by informing all Democrats what their tax increase would have been, and asking out of the goodness for their party & building bridges for all the Democrats to give the money to be taxed in a fund box to pay back the debt.

It’s just a chance of a lifetime for the Democrats to prove their motto that they are more generous loving people that Republicans.

It saddens me the kiddies Democratic Youth club’s site reminds their members that Republicans are selfish people among other slurs which cause such division among students not even old enough to vote.

Did you know that the ever changing school agenda of Obama makes it more and more difficult for our youth to take classes in Government, the Constitution, Civics, Politics. You must excel in an AP class in American History first. Obama wants students to be dumb about America. You can not even take American History til your Jr. or Sr. year on top of that. Those strings attached. Don’t grow a brain.
