AP: Brown Returns To Lead Troubled CA

From a joyous Associated Press:

Jerry Brown returns to lead a troubled California

By Juliet Williams, Associated Press Mon Jan 3, 2011

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Democrat Jerry Brown was sworn in Monday as California’s 39th governor, returning to the office he left 28 years ago but inheriting a much different and more troubled state than the one he led then…

Mr. Brown allowed California’s state workers to unionize. There is no other person on the planet who is more to blame for the horrific state California is in today than Jerry Brown.

Brown has predicted a grim future for the financially beleaguered state. Where his predecessor, Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger, expressed optimism at every turn, Brown has been realistic since winning the Nov. 2 election.

"Since winning the Nov. 2 election" being the operative phrase here. During his outrageously mendacious campaign Mr. Brown was all sunshine and lollipops.

California has faced several years of deep budget deficits and is confronting another estimated at $28 billion through June 2012.

Even though, just like every other state in the union apart from Vermont, California has a balanced budget amendment in its constitution. Luckily, they have never let such details like that get in their way.

Its general fund is $15 billion less than it was just three years ago, reflecting a sharp drop in tax revenue from a recession that has battered the economy of the nation’s most populous state. Brown, 72, said the choices facing California’s 38.8 million people are painful.

"The year ahead will demand courage and sacrifice," he said

Mr. Brown’s election was bought via record spending from the SEIU and other unions. Do you really think anything will be done about the union pensions and the other public union employee costs that are bankrupting California?

The only sacrifices will be those made by the taxpayers for the unions.

Brown’s inauguration was a scaled-down affair, reflecting the austerity of the former Jesuit seminarian and Buddhism student. Brown’s speech lasted about 15 minutes, and the only other speaker listed on the one-page program was his wife…

According to other reports, the Browns served hot dogs at their gala reception. So much for his concern for healthy food.

[H]is press aides have not quashed speculation that Brown will try to call a special election this spring to extend a set of temporary tax hikes approved in 2009. Brown said he would not raise taxes without voter approval, but will need some Republican help to reach the two-thirds legislative vote necessary to place any tax or fee measure on the ballot

What’s this? He is already promising to raise taxes? What a shock. Of course, extending tax hikes is exactly what the California economy needs.

His years practicing Buddhism in Japan and working with Mother Teresa in India may come in handy as he tries to broker deals with dug-in lawmakers, many of whom are eyeing their next office with every vote they take.

He preached a spirit of bipartisanship but also said he would not have patience for those who draw lines in the sand.

"At this stage of my life, I’ve not come here to embrace delay and denial," he said during his speech

Yes, the Democrat idea of bi-partisanship. ‘Do what they want.’

Brown becomes only the second person to serve three terms as California governor. His tenure as the 34th governor, from 1975 to 1983, was before voter-imposed term limits

Notice how two of our news media’s favorite politicians, Messrs Brown and Bloomberg, have both violated the spirit of term limits, if not in fact the letter of the law.

But since they are serving the higher purpose of socialism it is all right.

It would be nice if Ichabod Brown turns on the unions and tells them they can’t touch him as he is done after this, but I think the kneejerk response built into long-term Democrats will steer him into siding with the evil, greedy, selfish unions in almost every case.

  2. Rusty Shackleford says:

In reality, this is just perfect. This is bringing gasoline to the fire with Brown back in office. He’s just like Obama, without the oratory skills.

  3. tranquil.night says:

He may not have the teleprompter deliverance or star-aligning circumstances of NerObama, but Deacon Brown from Waterworld (ref. courtesy of pro) is a professional politician with decades of experience at rhetorical deceit and image reinvention. Meg Whitman spent hundreds of millions of dollars showing California how much Jerry Brown lies. He didn’t even have to respond, or barely even campaign for that matter. He just sat back and coasted to victory on the backs of the unions, ecofascists, and media.

All this talk of his frugality and spirituality is hilarious on the surface, but the truth is they’d rather have the nation thinking California is being governed by the crazy hermit Governor Moonbeam than a tool whose been bought and paid for by the machine collapsing the state. It provides them the cover they need.. to continue collapsing the state. Obama’s employed similar public relations pushes countless times now.

Brown may be the last old white guy here when his term’s up.

I heard Kalifornia is adopting the Internationale as their new state song.

If they wanted to secede from the union, I wouldn’t lift a finger to stop them. Just let the Border Patrol guys leave first so they can enforce the new border with Nevada, Arizona and The People’s Democratic Republic of Oregon.

    I rest my case.
