AP Crows: Tally Lists 87,000 Iraqis Dead

From an ecstatic Associated Press:

U.S. army soldiers stand next to a car damaged by a bomb explosion in Baghdad, Iraq, Thursday, April 23, 2009.

AP Exclusive: Secret tally has 87,000 Iraqis dead

BAGHDAD – A previously undisclosed Iraqi government tally obtained by The Associated Press shows that at least 87,215 Iraqis have been killed in violence since 2005.

An in-depth AP review shows the total for the entire war exceeds 110,000 Iraqis. That figure is based on the government tally and counts of casualties from earlier years from hospital sources and media reports.

A government official shared the Iraqi death tally on condition of anonymity, providing the most authoritative accounting to date of the war’s toll.

It still excludes thousands of people who are missing and civilians who were buried in the chaos of war without official notice.

Ah yes, an allegedly ‘secret list’ from an anonymous source.

Mind you, even the (undoubtedly bogus) 87,000 figure isn’t enough for the Associated Press.

They have to cite their own unsubstantiated “review” to trump it up to 110,000. (Especially since 100,000 Iraqi dead has been the leftwing mantra for years.)

And still there is more. The AP thoughtfully reminds us of the thousands who are missing and buried “without official notice.”

Yep, our watchdog media are doing their level best to whip up the outrage on all fronts so that we can have the long sought after Iraq War show trials.

By the way, do note that there is no mention in any of these made up figures that the vast majority of Iraqis deaths are the result of Iraqi Muslims killing their fellow Iraqi Muslims.

Why is that?

Millions of Americans die each year.

The second amendment protects gun rights.

    Connect the dots.

  2. pdsand says:

Print a similarly sensational story in their newspapers about the number of dead in the drug war and I’ll care about this figure.

You know…..I know……all the world know that shiite versus sunni versus kurd versus………and of course…..
    “IT’S BUSHES FAULT!!!”

BTW>>>>where was the AP when Saddam was whacking his muslims wholesale? HHHMMMMM?

    • Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

      “Saddam was whacking his muslims”

Lets keep the conversation out of the gutter LD OK?

  4. 12 Gauge Rage says:

LD, the AP didn’t care at that time because George W. wasn’t even on the radar nor his father. Besides, they were too busy trying to dig up any dirt they could on R. Reagan.

  5. Marine brat says:

You have to wonder how many of those killed were the result of fighting against the US? My memory seems to recall the number of enemy killed has not been published.

  6. wardmama4 says:

Yes Marine Brat – this is the 2009 version of the nightly body count and of course The One ™ gave them their eagerly awaited coffin pictures to also do the 2009 version of the Vietnam War redo. The media has been drumming up this Vietnam War redo since May of 2003 – they’d better watch out – one of the dangers is that Americans are not going to go along with the Democrats/msm (oops my bad, same thing) trashing the Armed Forces. It will come back to haunt them – but then the msm doesn’t care at all about America, the Armed Forces or winning a war. Which one could postulate is why their readership is dramatically down.

  7. newman039 says:

Don’t forget the previous estimate at 650,000…. which was found to be completely bogus (yet still is quoted all over the web (see Michael Moore’s website)…

When Obama was told that two Brazilian soldiers had been killed in Iraq he fell to the ground, stunned, wailing about such a tragic loss. Later he asked Rahm Imanuel, “How many is a brazilion?”

    • Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

That’s a classic JohnMG, still just as funny as the first time I heard it.

  8. MinnesotaRush says:

Did they count the folks that got tossed thru the wood chippers and/or other various (dare I say) “tortuous” methods by the Hussein gang?

The nitwits in the media spreading their usual biased propaganda.

“.. enemies of the United States .. foreign and DOMESTIC.”

Slightly off point here; but, isn’t that little sh_tbox of a car in this photo one of the new o-blah-blah motors prototypes?

  11. rakkasan says:

Here is a link to the New England Journal of Medicine report on deaths in Iraq by weapon type. If you notice in the left hand column of “Method”, the bulk of the methods are things that we would not use (for example, 43% of deaths are from execution and 37% of deaths are from suicide bombs of various types). So the bulk of this is the Islamic fanatics doing God’s will sort of thing.

If a tree falls somewhere, it must be America’s fault. Thanks for the helpful link Rakkasan!

  12. Squito says:

How long do you suppose it’ll be before they announce a googleplex of casualties?

  13. canary says:

During Desert Storm, Iraq had bombs that could travel clear to the U.S. guess Pakistan has them all now.
I do not comprehend how Obama ignored military officials informing him that the cease fire shortly after Obama went into office, that the Taliban would regroup as they had done before when the U.S. ceased firing. We allready paid Pakistan 5 billion recently, Kerry is saying Obama has no stradgedy. Hillary is saying Pakistan is a mortal threat to the entire world. So, Obama is sending 30,000
troops over when Pakistan has for a second time told US they don’t want to fight the Taliban anymore.
I am worried when Obama knows things got worse, now he wants our soldiers.
We need our soldiers here, not dead over there. If the Obomi’s really believe soldiers and veterans are right wing terrorists, then Obomi would worry that our military would not allow him to take over this country. I think there is a real breakdown of communications going on. Obama has flip flopped so much.

    • oldswimcoach says:

If Pakistan has said they don’t want US troops, does this mean Obama is not ruling out an invasion? Not sure how else we put them in if they are unwanted and uninvited.

    • JohnMG says:

…..” If the Obomi’s really believe soldiers and veterans are right wing terrorists, then Obomi would worry that our military would not allow him to take over this country…..”

That’s why he wants to keep them deployed. Somehow, in his convoluted thinking, he’s really keeping us safe from our own people by keeping them occupied elsewhere. Just like Napolitano’s report suggested, our service people are to be considered a threat to our domestic tranquility.

Such people as we now have in positions of government power shouldn’t be trusted with sharp objects, or left without adult supervision.

  14. beautyofreason says:

I believe it was the nauseating Rosie O’Donnell who once claimed 600,000 Iraqis had died, as she asked “who are the real terrorists?”

    • Liberals Demise says:

……and let us not forget that “Terrorist are mommies and daddies too!”
Rosie needs to keep a turkey leg stuffed in that big hole under his nose!!

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

      Clearly and undeniably….it’s fat people.

And LD, that turkey leg and the hole…well, I had an image in mind but it’s not for this website.

  15. Marine brat says:

I recall the insults thrown at the military when my father returned from Viet Nam. My fear is the country will be returning to that opinion of our military very soon. With the release of information surrounding “torture” and the total ignorance of the left to what the military has to endure to do their jobs, it will happen all over again. We need to continue to stand up for the virtue of our cause and reasons for our actions. I wonder if the MSM will begin to replay the horrendous video and pictures of our citizens falling to their deaths at the World Trade Center. We must never forget or forgive those responsible.
