AP: GOP Leader Hopes To Work With BHO

From what we hope is a selectively spinning Associated Press:

GOP leader hopes to work with Obama on some issues

By Laurie Kellman, Associated Press Writer Thu Oct 21, 2010

WASHINGTON – The Senate’s top Republican says President Barack Obama and a more-Republican Congress could join to pass laws on trade and spending policy and make changes to the health care overhaul if the administration listens to voters on Election Day.

"I can’t believe he’s going to continue to ignore the wishes of the American people if his party has a very bad day Nov. 2," Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said in a telephone interview Wednesday.

Why is this hard to believe? Mr. Obama has ignored every other election result over the two years. He has ignored all the polls. In fact, he and his lackeys mock the polls as "a 6-year-old with a crayon." Mr. Obama will just see November 2nd as another poll, another childish scribbling.

"If he pivots and wants to work with us, obviously I’d be happy to talk to him." …

He won’t. He won’t pivot or triangulate. He will just keep being our Community Organizer-In-Chief. So everything else is fantasy.

Speaking from his home in Louisville, Ky., McConnell said there are several areas of agreement that already exist between congressional Republicans and Obama that, theoretically, could pass quickly.

Those issues, he said, include an arcane tax reporting law on businesses that’s part of the unpopular health care overhaul. Even Obama wants the so-called 1099 provision changed so that businesses are not overburdened with paperwork.

Yes, Mr. Obama and the Democrats want this change to 1099 reporting so badly that they voted against amendments which would have done away with it – twice

In truth the ‘1099 provision’ should simply be scrapped along with the rest of the bill. There is no way to ‘fix’ Obama-care. To even try is to let their foot in the door.

McConnell also suggested that the two sides could write into law trade agreements with South Korea, Colombia and Panama in an effort to create jobs.

Promoting nuclear energy and working to reduce federal spending and debt are other policy areas on which McConnell predicted the two sides could come to quick agreement.

If the AP is reporting his thoughts accurately, and that is a big "if," Mr. McConnell appears to be living in a dream. Mr. Obama has closed down Yucca Flats by executive diktat. So there will be no expansion of nuclear power plants. We might even have to close the ones we have.

And any child of 26 should know that the Democrats will never agree to reduce spending on anything but defense and national security. They are only pretending to be concerned about the debt to raise taxes and invent news ones. As Al Gore once famously observed, "a zebra doesn’t change its spots."

You would think Mr. McConnell would have figured this out by now. If he hasn’t, he needs to go, too.

But we hope that this is just part of our wolfpack media’s concerted campaign to dispirit anyone hoping for real change and thereby suppress conservative voter turnout.

We’ll know by the end of February, 2011.

If they haven’t passed a repeal of Obamyscare by then, off with their heads.

    • Petronius says:

Right. First thing they must do is repeal Obamyscare.

If he vetoes it, repeal it again and send it back to him.

Keep sending it back until he signs it or or until we get a president who will.

The Bamster’s idea of compromise is to give him what he wants.

You can’t work with these slimebags. I just hope we have a large enough majority to do some good.

You sir are correct. They need to publicize every bill they send to Barry so when he vetoes it the public will know and keep sending bills for him to veto and make sure everyone knows what is in them.
