AP: Jobless Rate Down As People Give Up

Some surprising honesty from the Associated Press. Though you have to read between the lines:

Payrolls drop by 125K, jobless rate falls

July 2, 2010

WASHINGTON (AP) — A wave of census layoffs cut the nation’s payrolls in June for the first time in six months, while private employers added a modest number of jobs. The unemployment rate fell to 9.5 percent, its lowest level in almost a year.

Which, of course, is wildly conflicting news.

The Labor Department says employers cut 125,000 jobs last month, the most since last October. The loss was driven by the end of 225,000 temporary census jobs. Businesses added 83,000 workers to their payrolls, an improvement from May.

Employers cut 125,000 jobs last month, the most since last October, the Labor Department said Friday. The loss was driven by the end of 225,000 temporary census jobs. Businesses added a net total of 83,000 workers, an improvement from May. But that’s also below March and April totals.

The nation has 7.9 million fewer private payroll jobs than it did when the recession began…

So how could the unemployment rate fall by a tenth of a percent in June, when employers cut 125,000 jobs?

The Associated Press explains, albeit cryptically:

The unemployment rate fell as more people out of work gave up on their job searches and left the labor force. People who are no longer looking for work aren’t counted as unemployed.

This is a shockingly honest article from the AP. They are admitting that the number of people employed is actually down. And that the lower unemployment number just means that more people have fallen off the rolls because they have even trying to get a job.

Which just goes to show you that our watchdog media will resort to anything to try to ram through another ‘stimulus’ package for the DNC’s re-election coffers.

The number of people that gave up looking for work last month is stunning – 652,000. Put that number on your teleprompter Barry.

‘Progressives’ in action. Keep unemployment numbers low by driving people out of the job market. As long as the unemployment rate stays below the magic 10%, they can operate their spin machines in high gear.

So that’s 652,000 less on the unemployment payroll, therefore ~ 652,000 “new jobs created” right?

I mean, using democrat math, which is like “new math” with the only difference being that “new math” in the 60’s actually worked.

But to a democrat, an unemployed person, who gives up, or dies is now off the debit side of the books and can therefore be counted as a credit.

The Republicans headline for November should be…….”X millioin jobs lost on the Moron’s watch. Y million more people have given up looking for work. Z million useless government jobs have been invented that your children will be paying for when you are long dead.”

  2. tranquil.night says:

Remember, it’s okay to report that people have dropped out and given up looking since “it’s the Republicans who refused to extend unemployment benefits.”

  3. Freedom615 says:

I love Barry’s argument (stated as fact) that unemployment would be a lot worse but for his presence on earth (and the stimulus bill). He doesn’t (and can’t) qualify the statement as fact, but hey, since he said so, it must be true.

Let’s apply that logic to another hot topic: global warming. Lets assume for one moment that global warming is real. I’m now of the opinion that the world would be in much worse shape without global warming. It would be snowing in Hawaii, people would be freezing south of the equator and the rain forests would be covered in thick layers of ice.

How do I know this? What the hell does it matter? I said so, that’s how!!!

Haven’t seen many headlines about nerobama’s “Recovery Summer.” I wonder why?

  7. GetBackJack says:

In Western Colorado Wal-Mart has put their signs back up NOW HIRING. Simultaneous to this are news reports locally of the several thousand people looking for work. ????

I asked a relative who works retail for a large chain.”What up with this? 1,000s of people looking for work and Wal-Mart advertising for help?” Why don’t they go to Wal-Mart and get a job?”

Here’s the unspoken kicker …. of the several hundred applications done online every week at the store my relative works for the word is (from their Home Office) that 1/4 never show up for the mandatory drug testing and 7/8 of the remaining number are not able to pass the online pre-employment test for basic educational skills.

Meaning of 100 applicants 25 won’t do the drug tests and of the remaining 75 applicants, something like 65-70 can’t pass basic high school skills testing.

That may be why employment numbers suck ….. the worksforce has been dumbed down to the point of being unemployable.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

GBJ, after reviewing it from a liberal stance, clearly the skills tests are racist.

But, judging from the rocket scientists employed at wally world, I’m really not that surprised.

Walmart is proof that a successful business can be run even when the line workers are gubamint qualified. The secret seems to be having sentient adults at the top….which of course is that reason why our government can’t do anything successfully.

I imagine Walmart has a sophisticated workforce model that tells them that they can operate with 85% of the workforce doing negative work, 14% actually working and 1% actually inventing ways for the 14% to erase the damage of the 85% and still get things done.

By giving the 85% money and benefits for showing up and being surly, Walmart keeps the gubamint off its back.

  8. canary says:

Timing not to extend unemployment is important so Americans seek & insist upon illegal Mexican’s jobs.

Also, American’s who have lost homes need the cheaper housing Mexicans get.

Violence by illegal Mexicans would increase when Americans demand their jobs, but best to get it over with, while we have the 2nd amendment.

The Mexican president whose government & police are corrupt making speeches in Mexico that a growing group of Americans are becoming their enemies. And for Obama to do the same to Americans is nothing less than

We have companies moving their business to Mexico for cheaper labor anyways. Let them work in their home country’s they are so proud of, their countries flag, and their La Viva Mexico signs are more suitable there.
