AP: Obama Pulls Back On ‘Enemies’ Crack

From a forgiving and forgetting Associated Press:

Obama pulls back on ‘enemies’ remark to Latinos

By Julie Pace, Associated Press Writer Mon Nov 1, 2010

WASHINGTON – A day before the pivotal midterm elections, President Barack Obama pulled back from remarks he made last month when he called on Latino voters to punish their "enemies" on Election Day. In an interview Monday with radio host Michael Baisden, Obama said he should have used the word "opponents" instead of enemies

Mr. Obama’s Univision interview aired last Monday, October 25th. So it took him and his brain trust an entire week to come up with this cockamamie exegesis.

Obama’s original comments came during an interview with Eddie "Piolin" Sotelo, a Hispanic radio personality. Piolin questioned how Obama could ask Latinos for their vote when many don’t believe he’s worked hard to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

Obama responded: "If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’ if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s gonna be harder."

The president said Monday that the message he was trying to send was that voters need to support lawmakers who stand with them on the issue.

"Now the Republicans are saying that I’m calling them enemies," Obama said. "What I’m saying is you’re an opponent of this particular provision, comprehensive immigration reform, which is something very different."

Alas, Mr. Obama is a liar. It is perfectly clear from his remarks that he meant "enemies" and not "opponents."

In the rest of his remarks to Univision Mr. Obama even went on to condemn those who do not toe his line on amnesty for not representing "our core American values."

From the New York Times blog, The Caucus:

Referring specifically to Republicans such as Senator John McCain, who formerly supported an overhaul but now are stressing border security and supporting strict immigration laws like Arizona’s anti-illegal immigration measure, Mr. Obama said, “Those aren’t the kinds of folks who represent our core American values.”

You see, even if you are a war hero, ‘statesman’ and erstwhile champion of amnesty, if you currently oppose Mr. Obama’s attempt to ‘legalize’ 25 million new Democrat voters — you are un-American.

You are the enemy.

A Harvard educated lawyer means what he says, and says what he means.
~The President didn’t meet the the Senate minority leader for 18 months
~Ignored all Republican ideas for 18 months
~Sued Arizona for enforcing federal law
~Allowed the new black panthers to intimidate (white) voters with bats
~Tells supporters to “Get in their neighbors face.”

No……Republicans are quite clearly seen as the enemy. These walk-backs are to fool the 5% of the people who are fools already, or want to be fooled.

    Lawyers…..

Why even walk back the comment?

There’s no way to undo the meaning. I don’t mind his dishonesty half as much as I mind his opinion of me. He must think I’m stupid.

We are missing exactly what this whole dust-up is showing.

Obama off the teleprompter says what he really believes – that anyone not in completely agreement with him – is an enemy. And any Dems not a foaming at the mouth radical – take heed – you will be gone after during this Lame Duck session – most probably after the new Congress is sworn in – big time. Obama can pound the Repubs all he wants during the Lame Duck presidency – as it might help him gin up his base to allow him even a hint of a chance at the re-election (but how many Presidents admitted during the first 18 months that they ‘might’ be a one-term President?!?) – however members of his own Party who turn against him now – will be destroyed – make no mistake about that.

And secondly – this shows that unlike even Slick Willie or FDR – there is no one controlling this POTUS – he says what he wants, he will not compromise, he will not back down -maybe brush it aside but no back down at all.

And for all of us – citizen and politician, Repub or Dem, whatever color, whatever issue, whatever social-economic group – that is a very dangerous trait for an American President to hold. When he sets himself above issues, above Party and even above America – I truly do fear what this man will do next. And we all should.

A slip of the tongue here. A misspeak there. A tired moment once in a while. A careless comment to friends. A unguarded moment. A teleprompter breakdown. A speech writer slip-up. A utube from a few years ago. An old interview. Acquaintances from the past speaking up. Old friends cropping up. Words you wrote decades ago. A youthful column. Something your mamma said. A few nutty films from church. Some conferences you attended years ago. Some meetings you attended. Some organizations you belonged to . Some allies revealed. A poor choice of words when you didn’t think anyone was watching.

Pretty soon. People begin to think you are a marxist idealogue.

    It’s so unfair.

Reminds me of a joke I heard once.

Mario and Luigi were sitting on a hill top one day, looking out over thier old city by the bay, marvelling at the historic skyline and the sillouettes of the many ships parked in the harbor.

Mario spoke first. “I have spent my whole life in this town. I began my career as a fisherman, and later, began building ships. After all of these years, and all of my hard work, it pleases me to look down upon this town and know that I built most of those ships down there. After all of my hard work an contributions to this town, I am proud that I am now known to all as Mario the Ship builder.”

Luigi thought for a moment before speaking. “I have spent my whole life in this town. I began my career as a simple carpenter, and later I was fortunate enough to become an architect. After designing and building every house of worship in town, and every warehouse, and over half of the homes that people live in, I had hoped that like you, I would be known for all of my hard work as Luigi the Architect. But no, it seems that life is cruel indeed. I get drunk 1 time and blow that transvestite out behind the tavern….”

I personally don’t think Barry is concerned about getting re-elected in fact I’m betting he may not even get the nomination in 2012. Barry just wanted to get elected president to show that he could. He never wanted to really BE the president, that’s too much work.

Now after 2012 he can retire, move away from Thunderbutt and the punishments and get on with his having a good time getting paid exorbitant fees for giving speeches, buggering little boys while puffing on a Kool. We will have to pay for his protection for years afterward while he lives his decadent lifestyle denigrating America to all who will listen.

We are all his enemies, not just the Republicans and conservatives but every man, woman and child who loves and believes in this country of ours.

      one correction ROP.

His preference is for older white males.

I personally take offense to you suggesting that our Disfunctional in Chief is a child molestor.

I don’t know of a single child molestor who has tried to destroy the United States, except, of course, for Drooling Barney.

    • Right of the People

      Pro,

I stand corrected. How could I forget an important trait like his loving to humiliate older white men. My bad.

As a matter of fact, Juan McCain IS an enemy…of the American people and the United States. He did a 180 on his amnesty thing because it was an election year, PERIOD!!! Stick around. After he’s been re-elected he’ll be right back in there, pitching for amnesty and trying to create 40 million new democrat voters.

20 years from now, the “enemies” remark is going to be remembered as the signature quote of the boy king.

Unless he comes up with something that can top even that.

Maybe he will publicly wish that Tea Baggers be boiled alive or something.

  8. BannedbytheTaliban

Maybe it is just me, but I’m more concerned with the use of the word “punish” than enemy. We truely live in dangerous times when governments go around telling one group of citizens it is ok to punish another. Juden raus!

Obama won’t call radical muslims our enemies. They are “individuals, suspects”. FT. Hood massacre & CIA agents blown up in Pakistan was done by an individual. suspects. The Ft. Hood massacre was an incident. CIA agents were murdered by an individual.

The strongest language Obama has used was religious extremists isn’t acceptable over the Christmas Eve panty bomber.

At a townhall meeting in MO after he took office he made fun of teabag wavers, imitating someone waving a tiny tea bag.

Geraldo Rivero recently said the Tea Parties are “subtle racism”. Geraldo tried to be “subtle” when he called Americans racist. He’s always plugging for Obama & illegals. That’s why FOX is fair & balanced.
