AP Outraged: Pseudo Lesbians In Sochi Opening

From a furious Associated Press:

Pseudo-lesbians, ballet, in Sochi Olympics opening

Feb 07, 2014

SOCHI, Russia (AP) — A pseudo-lesbian pop duo, a famed opera singer and a romp through Russian history await viewers as the Sochi Winter Olympics launch Friday with an opening ceremony meant to showcase to the world the ultimate achievement of Vladimir Putin’s Russia.

In a provocative choice, Russian singers Tatu will perform before the 3,000 athletes march through a stadium on the shores of the Black Sea, one of the many newly built facilities in the most expensive Olympics in history. The women in Tatu put on a lesbian act that is largely seen as an attention-getting gimmick.

Note that the AP is outraged that a "pseudo-lesbian" duo is going to perform. Instead of an authentic lesbian duo. — How quickly the standards of the world have changed. Or, at least, the media’s standards.

But pseudo lesbian-ism is terrible. It’s just "an attention getting gimmick." Unlike real lesbianism, which is sacred. (For the record, we personally have nothing against same sex couples. As long as both women are attractive.)

It contrasts with the very real anger over a Russian law banning gay "propaganda" aimed at minors that is being used to discriminate against gays.

For the record, the lyrics of the song Tatu are going to perform, "Not Gonna Get Us," are about the two women running away from people who don’t understand their love towards one another. Its accompanying music video starts with the women getting a mug shot, then escaping to a truck, where they drive off through snow in Siberia.

In fact, the song was a commercial success worldwide, peaking inside the top ten in countries including Finland, Italy, Austria, Sweden, Belgium, Ireland and the United Kingdom. The song also reached number one on the US Hot Dance Club charts, becoming the group’s only number one single in US component charts.

So it sure sounds like they are trying to make a statement. But since they aren’t card-carrying lesbians, it’s not good enough. (By the way, how do we know they aren’t card-carrying lesbians?)

Some world leaders and activists have protested the law, and President Barack Obama is skipping the opening ceremony and sending a delegation that includes prominent gay athletes instead…

If only he would stand up to Russian over our missile defense and our sanctions against Iran and a dozen other important things.

By the way, would Mr. Putin and Russia be getting so much negative press about the Olympics if it wasn’t for their politically incorrect attitudes toward gays? In fact, didn’t Mr. Putin used to be widely admired by the US and world media for standing up to the United States?

But he stepped on our news media’s most sensitive corn, homosexuals. And now he and Russia are paying the price.

The ceremony will focus on Russia and Olympic ideals of sportsmanship and achievement – not on repression of dissent, fears of terrorism or international political tensions over neighboring Ukraine…

Gee, what is wrong with them for not focusing on such fun subjects?

Can’t we all just have a SPORTS event?

  2. I’m here for the Sport

FU Bob Costas. And I mean that. With a stick what has splinters …

These kinds of news stories keep me pseudo-interested in reading them.

Agree with GBJ, Costas made the opening way too political. Hell, he’s making the whole Olympics into a political rant.

If anyone watched it last night, did you see the Obama interview? Now, normally when the big O takes the stage, the channel is changed. However, last night I was mesmerized by the smirky grin, glassy eyes and nonsensical responses of said O. If I didn’t know any better, which I don’t, I would have said the dude was stoned (which considering it was Friday night, it’s probably the regularly scheduled white house Friday evening happy hour).

      you noticed that too?
but seeing that NBC is the Official Network of the Democrat Party…
day two and no “real” news ( racist, Anti Gay, ) and oh ya, no Terrorist Attack.
      well ,there is still time.
NBC may have to actually COVER THE SPORTS EVENT!
still i hate the 9 hour time delay and the announcers “100% ” accuracy on selecting the winners.
the Wife’s nephew is over in Okinawa now.
will have to email or Skype him and ask how its being covered there.
this would be a good time to watch some of those old DVDs .
      any suggestions?

This is a great story and I am glad to know that lesbians got their music heard. I hope we can recognized more of this stuff internationally and much like Smith and Castro in the 68 Olympics, this is the perfect stage for politics.

Yes, I too am so glad lesbians got their music heard. As I watch the news zoom in on delegations from countries that my first impression is their intensity of loving their countries and sports and it is not as with looking at the US delegation of lesbians and a homosexual and thoughts of their sex acts.

It’s like Bill Clinton instantly brings up a sick vision of him leaving his marks in the White House Oval office, and most likely in the Lincoln Room bed as tabloids claimed.
