AP Shocker: Obama-Care Will Cost More!

From a many days late and trillion dollars short Associated Press:

Report says health care will cover more, cost more

By Ricardo Alonso-zaldivar, Associated Press Writer Apr 22

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul law is getting a mixed verdict in the first comprehensive look by neutral experts: More Americans will be covered, but costs are also going up.

Economic experts at the Health and Human Services Department concluded in a report issued Thursday that the health care remake will achieve Obama’s aim of expanding health insurance — adding 34 million to the coverage rolls.

Only if they decide to enroll. Whereas it is just as likely that they won’t, and that many will drop the insurance they have – now that they can get covered for any pre-existing condition.

But the analysis also found that the law falls short of the president’s twin goal of controlling runaway costs, raising projected spending by about 1 percent over 10 years. That increase could get bigger, since Medicare cuts in the law may be unrealistic and unsustainable, the report warned.

Now they tell us.

It’s a worrisome assessment for Democrats.

But not for us, the poor schlubs who will have to pay for this. And for the nation as a whole, which will have its fine healthcare destroyed.

No, the important thing is whether it will hurt the Democrats or not.

In particular, concerns about Medicare could become a major political liability in the midterm elections.

Which of course is impossible, since Mr. Obama, Mr. Clinton, Mr. Reid and Ms. Pelosi – and all their lickspittle minions in the media – told us that Obama-Care would  be wildly popular come November.

The report projected that Medicare cuts could drive about 15 percent of hospitals and other institutional providers into the red, "possibly jeopardizing access" to care for seniors.

Perhaps now the AP can figure out why there were so many older Americans at the ‘healthcare reform’ townhalls and at Tea Party rallies.

The report from Medicare’s Office of the Actuary carried a disclaimer saying it does not represent the official position of the Obama administration.

No kidding. We know of a job opening, that will soon be available.

White House officials have repeatedly complained that such analyses have been too pessimistic and lowball the law’s potential to achieve savings

Mr. Obama’s White House officials are pathological liars. For instance:

In a statement, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius sought to highlight some positive findings for seniors. For example, the report concluded that Medicare monthly premiums would be lower than otherwise expected, due to the spending reductions.

"The Affordable Care Act will improve the health care system for all Americans, and we will continue our work to quickly and carefully implement the new law," the statement said…

Passed by a divided Congress after a year of bitter partisan debate…

Actually, the opposition to the bill was bi-partisan. But the AP never lets the facts get in the way of its narrative.

The report found that the president’s law missed the mark, although not by much. The overhaul will increase national health care spending by $311 billion from 2010-2019, or nine-tenths of 1 percent. To put that in perspective, total health care spending during the decade is estimated to surpass $35 trillion…

And we are supposed to believe this?

Administration officials argue the increase is a bargain price for guaranteeing coverage to 95 percent of Americans. They also point out that the law will decrease the federal deficit by $143 billion over the 10-year period.

And we are supposed to believe this?

The report’s most sober assessments concerned Medicare.

In addition to flagging provider cuts as potentially unsustainable, the report projected that reductions in payments to private Medicare Advantage plans would trigger an exodus from the popular alternative. Enrollment would plummet by about 50 percent. Seniors leaving the private plans would still have health insurance under traditional Medicare, but many might face higher out-of-pocket costs.

Notice where the AP puts this minor detail.

In another flashing yellow light, the report warned that a new voluntary long-term care insurance program created under the law faces "a very serious risk" of insolvency.

Notice where the AP puts this minor detail.

They truly are despicable.

I am shocked! Shocked, that gambling is taking place in this establishment!
Why did they wait so long?
They could have put this out a day after Obama signed the legislation.
It’s not like the people on the left (or asleep) would care, and we already knew this.

Has there ever been a federal government program that has come in under budget? Ever?

    Social Security
    Medicare
    Medicaid
    Welfare
    The Post Office
    Any government agency
    Any weapons program
    NASA
    TARP and the bailouts
    The “Stimulus”

    Any program? Ever?

This one will cost many times the estimates. It would be shocking if it costs less than 3 times the lies they have told about it.

And of course, millions of people will die because of it.

Your life expectancy was just reduced by a year, my friend….at least. The reduction will be much greater after a couple of decades.

    Welcome to the third world.

What does AP stand for, Absolutely Pointless?

To be fair, the blame lies with Kathleen Sebelius and the Department of Health and Human Services. They issued the report yesterday.

A simple mind simply amused…if 30 million are added to the insured rolls doesn’t that mean for a start we have to send out 30 million identity cards? And who is confident that those people will then visit cheap doctors instead of going to the expensive emergency room out of habit? As usual just thinking out loud and wondering how Obama can be so stupid and/or evil.

If I may presuppose for this missive…nearly everyone who regularly visits this site knows that the administration is a pack of lying socialists. The defense for their actions are “WE WON” making Ayn Rand’s definition of a democratically elected republics representatives nothing more than the “biggest and most dedicated gang rules”. If we can agree that that is exactly the present case then it is counter productive to whine and cry over the policies that gang one will install because they can fall back on the mantra of, according to Bill Clinton: “we are just doing what we were elected to do”. All the caterwauling and protesting won’t do a bit of good if the object is to change the views of O blah blah, Reid and Pelosi et al. This is where the TEA party is on the right track and that is to identify non conservatives and ultra liberals and single them out for their lack of belief in the constitution and the capitalist system. In my humble estimation the TEA party is likely to die out, and it will be a shame because their goals and concerns seem to honestly arrived at. But in the end, the long run, what does their activism do for them except disrupt their lives and offer no immediate reward, quite the opposite of the lowly left wing liberals who truly hate this country and are as satiated as a drug addict, mainlining stolen money from the great unwashed.
If this is the case, could I make the case that on this board all the bashing of liberals will have no effect whatsoever and in the end make a lie to the postulate “knowledge is power”. Yes we all know but we have no power…..So I say let’s turn our attention to the “enablers”! And of course in any democratically elected representative republic that means the opinion shapers and of course that means the media. These connected mega entertainment, news and information conglomerates are the real source of the evil that is enveloping the legislative process and thinking.
As these outfits: AP, Reuters, UPI, GE, Disney, Viacom, Time Warner, News Corp et al, are the real enemy of right thinking constitionalists, then I say take the message to their doorsteps.

Steve’s site was founded to reveal the hypocricy of the msm, so this site does exactly what you suggest.

And since S&L has an outsized influence on Rush, Ann Coulter, Mark Levin and others, the people posting here are among the most influential in the blogosphere. Most of it is riding Steve’s coattails, but the impact, no matter the root cause of it, is real.

Also note the regular use of humor and parody by many of S&L’s clever posters, which is known to be one of the most effective means to counter self-important propagandists.
