Swedish May End Love Affair With Left

From a tear stained Associated Press:

Sweden’s Social Democrat party leader Mona Sahlin, red-green coalition, left, and Prime Minister and leader of the center-right coalition Fredrik Reinfeldt during a debate at public service TV-channel SVT late evening Thursday Sept. 9, 2010.

Swedish vote could end love story with left

By Karl Ritter, Associated Press Writer Sun Sep 12, 2010

STOCKHOLM – Swedish politics used to be like a long marriage with brief spells of infidelity.

Voters always returned to the long-governing Social Democrats — guardians of the Nordic country’s high-tax welfare state — after short-lived flirts with center-right coalitions.

That love story, it appears, may be coming to an end as Sweden heads into national elections Sept. 19.

Most recent polls suggest Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, 45, can capitalize on the Swedish economy’s strong revival after the global slump to pull off what no center-right leader has done before: winning re-election after serving a full term.

Meanwhile, the Social Democrats have not enjoyed their habitual rebound after a 35-percent showing in the previous election four years ago, their worst result since universal suffrage was adopted in 1919. Only a last-hour surge can avert an even lower result next Sunday, and for the first time the Social Democrats have had to join up with environmentalists and former communists in a Red-Green alliance to have any chance of regaining power

And what a stretch it is for the Social Democrats to team up with the “”former” communists.

Sweden’s economy is one of Europe’s strongest — it’s expected to grow by more than 4 percent this year — while the 2010 budget deficit is on track to be the smallest in the 27-nation EU…

So they can’t blame the ‘recession.’ It looks like maybe the Swedes like prosperity after all.

Sweden could join the swelling ranks of European countries with a far-right, Islam-bashing party in Parliament…

My goodness, that would be really terrible.

That doesn’t mean the country of 9.4 million people has given up on its cherished social model of using high taxes to sustain a cradle-to-grave welfare system that provides free education, affordable health care and protection for the sick and poor, and lets working couples share 16 months of paid parental leave…

Reinfeldt insists that his conservative Moderate Party, the biggest of the four coalition parties, wants to secure the welfare system by getting more people to work and paying taxes

How outrageous!

To that end, his government has cut income taxes while restricting benefits for the sick and unemployed

So despite what was just said above, they are talking about cutting taxes – and even restricting “benefits.”

Sweden’s jobless rate was 8.5 percent in July, below the EU average of 9.6 percent.

The tax breaks have affected all income brackets, helping dispel the long-held perception that the Moderates only look after Sweden’s wealthy elite. They have not forgotten about the rich, though. The government abolished Sweden’s wealth tax in 2007

And yet the Swedish economy is going great guns. How is that possible?

If we could only be as ‘conservative’ as Sweden.

What shocks me is that the AP would even write such a thing against such national socialism.

It’s too early to say for sure, but we may be at the threshhold of a powerful resurgence of freedom in the West.

I’ve been saying for a couple of years that the Europeans would eventually stand up to Islam….perhaps they will stand up to Marxism first.

If so, Obamy will deserve the credit.

When the barricade that was holding the Huns at bay gives way, then there are only two choices….spread your legs or grab a weapon.

Today we hear the Swedes are contemplating grabbing a weapon.

Don’t forget, a few tens of thousands of their ancestors had enough genius and agression to become a dominant force in Europeans countries from England to Russa beginning in the 7th or 8th centuries and lasting for about 500 years. William the Conqueror was not a Franc, he was a Norman (Norseman).

“The fiefdom of Normandy was created in 911 for the Viking leader Rollo (also known as Rolf).”

The Vikings were the antithesis of pantywaists.

Looks like the wimps in the EU are finally getting a clue. Now if we could only convince the people here that we’ve been right all along and get the majority to do the right thing and get rid of the virus in Washington who is trying to drag us into socialism.

It took the Europeans 60 years to figure this out. They always were kind of slow.

The Communists never went away. For ‘they’ were never ‘communists’ to begin with. They were a determined criminal cabal that dressed themselves in political ideology. Just as the Nazis and “royal right of kings” folk never went away. They change their mufti, they change their lexicon, they adopt new symbols and adapt to changing environments. Infiltration and corruption are the HALLMARKS of this peculiar and evil ideology that views you and me as cattle to the vampirical ways of this minority of rotten walking corpses.

We are to be fed upon. It’s our substance and energy and Life they find ways to take and use. Sticking their fangs right into the arteries of our substance. Forget the labels and political cant … it’s the same bunch over and over and the Old Right is now the New Left and the old Left is the New Right.

You delude yourselves if you think you will ever be rid of this virus.

Steve has reminded us a couple times that vampires have a weakness:

“The truth and Democrats are like the cross to a vampire” – SG
“The Obama administration fears other states trying to control their borders like a vampire fears the cross.” – SG
“And of course ever since the campaign ended Mr. Obama has avoided any religious service like a vampire avoids the cross.” – SG (my favorite)

Sweetness & Light will reign definitively victorious.. someday. We defend it and await the return of its and our Lord until then.

On the bright side, this will create 9000 internet jobs scrubbing accolades to Sweden from liberal blogs.

Sweden is a nice place and the Swedes have a good life but, man, do they have to pay for it. Last time me and Mrs Artboy were in Stockholm we stopped for a couple of beers and we ended up drinking Sam Adams from Boston, which was way cheaper (for who knows what reason) than any of the local brews even though the Sams had to cross an ocean and the locals only had to get from brewery to bar. Still, Sweden’s very much worth a visit but bring plenty of kroner and bring your own booze too. Skol!
