AP Teases Out Details Of Arab ‘Stabber’

[Note: Please scroll down for update.]

From an ever discreet Associated Press:

Fears remain in Mich. after stabbing spree arrest

August 13, 2010

FLINT, Mich. — The arrest of a suspect in a three-state stabbing spree that left five people dead and 13 others wounded has eased some but not all fears in Flint, where the attacks have changed the way some residents of one of Michigan’s toughest cities view helping others.

The Flint stabbings started in May, with the attacker approaching men on lonely roads at night and asking for directions or help with a broken-down car. Then he would pull out a knife, plunge it into his victim and speed away.

Even if the assaults are over, at least some fear remains in Flint, the battered industrial city where most of the stabbings, including all five deaths, occurred…

Elias Abuelazam, 33, was arrested Wednesday night in Atlanta before a flight to Israel, his native country, and charged with attempted murder in a July 27 knife strike in Flint that put the victim in a hospital for a week.

So it is not until the fourth paragraph that we learn Mr. Abuelazam is not a native American. Note that the AP refrains from telling us his ethnic background, leaving us to assume he is of the Jewish persuasion.

Authorities said more charges were expected in Michigan, Ohio and Virginia.

Abuelazam is being held at the Fulton County, Ga., jail awaiting an extradition hearing in the next few days. It was not known if he had an attorney.

"We will be methodical and thorough in our continuing investigation and prosecution. … You have real people who have died, real families who have been torn apart," Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said Thursday.

A tip — one of more than 500 — led police this week to a market in Mount Morris Township, outside Flint, where Abuelazam had worked for a month. Investigators talked to employees, and a store video showed that he matched the description of the man wanted by authorities.

Abuelazam, however, was gone: He told people he was off to Virginia and hadn’t been seen since his Aug. 1 shift.

Police in Arlington, Va., stopped him for a traffic offense Aug. 5 and arrested him on a 2008 misdemeanor assault charge from Leesburg, Va., where he had lived and worked in the mental-health field. A hammer and a knife were found inside the Chevrolet Blazer, which was returned to him after his brief detention. There was no national alert for Abuelazam or his vehicle.

"They had no idea at that time that he was involved in these crimes," Leyton said of Virginia authorities.

Abuelazam eventually returned to Michigan, obtained a $3,000 ticket to Tel Aviv from his uncle and made it as far as Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where officers snatched the man in flip-flops and shorts after he was paged over the intercom.

Passengers on the Delta Air Lines flight were stunned but said Abuelazam appeared tense. He was talking to someone on his cell phone "about not being violent and different things like that," passenger Eugene Williams said after the plane landed in Tel Aviv.

Leyton would say only that "technology" was used to track Abuelazam outside Michigan.

Abuelazam, an Israeli citizen who is in the U.S. with a green card, was living in Flint, where his uncle owned two adjacent homes. Leyton said evidence was removed, but he declined to describe it.

In the fourteenth paragraph, we learn that Mr. Abuelazam is an legal alien resident in this country. (According to other reports, he was married an American citizen in 2004, who he divorced three years later.)

The uncle is cooperating.

Neighbors suspected nothing, even when police appeared in the wee hours Thursday.

"There were no signs. There were no red flags," Dan Smith said. "I’ve seen him but never talked to him. He was kind of a loner."

Abuelazam’s mother, Iyam al-Azzam, told Israel Radio that she talked to him by phone before he was supposed to board a plane in Atlanta "and he sounded the same as usual, quiet and calm."

In the 17th paragraph we learn that his mother has an Arabic name.

"I do not believe these charges are true," she said. "Elias, my son, is a religious, God-fearing man who always assists anyone who needs help."

In the 19th paragraph, we learn that he is “religious.”

In Israel, neighbors on Abuelazam’s street in an Arab section of the poverty-stricken town of Ramla said Friday that they were shocked by the charges. They identified the suspect as the son of a good family who lost his father when he was young.

In the 20th paragraph we finally discover that he is indeed an Arab, which suggests that he is a pious Muslim.

"This is the best family you can imagine. They framed him. He’s not like that. No way. I’ve known him since he was a kid. He’s been my neighbor since he was a kid," one neighbor, who gave only his first name as Elias, told AP Television News.

A spokesman for the Israel Police’s central district, which includes Ramla, said Abuelazam has no local criminal record.

The attacks began in late spring, with all but four of the 18 occurring the Flint area. The others were in Leesburg, Va., and Toledo, Ohio. In one case, the attacker used a hammer.

The youngest victim was 15; the oldest 67. At least 15 victims were black, although there’s no evidence that race played a role, Leyton said. A motive was not known

Somehow we can’t help but wonder if the suspect were a ‘redneck’ Christian evangelical, would his ethnicity and religion have been so jealously protected by our watchdog media?

The Washington Post is now claiming that this guy is an Arab Christian. A detail that they have put right in their lede paragraph:

Man suspected as ‘Flint serial killer’ tried to settle in Northern Virginia

By Maria Glod and Caitlin Gibson
Friday, August 13, 2010

The man arrested Wednesday and accused of being the "Flint serial killer" is a Christian from Israel who tried unsuccessfully to put down roots in Northern Virginia and once worked with troubled children at a Leesburg mental health facility, according to friends and court records…

Oddly enough, no where in the rest of the article is it said how they know this.

Still, if true, this proves our earlier assertion, does it not?

Our unbiased media will have to change the storyline from white racist serial killer to Israeli terrorist.

  2. wardmama4 says:

Of course there are muslims in Israel – they built a mosque on the Temple site (sort of like the poke in the eye they are attempting at Ground Zero in NY) – I just wonder how come I did not hear of this until his capture – perhaps it is because of his ‘religion’ – which then makes the point that exactly what the media decides not to cover and what details they decide not to put into stories speaks much louder than the actual drivel that they do put into print.

  3. proreason says:

I’ll bet he had a mortgage at some point.

“At least 15 (of 18) victims were black, although there’s no evidence that race played a role.” The odds against selecting 15 of 18 black victims by chance in the US are about 15,500 to one.

Got a hunch this guy is the same kind of “christian” that Obamy is.

  4. Right of the People says:

“Somehow we can’t help but wonder if the suspect were a ‘redneck’ Christian evangelical, would his ethnicity and religion have been so jealously protected by our watchdog media?”

Of course not Steve. The headline would have been:

  5. NoNeoCommies says:

And we still don’t know the party of that Texas Mayor that killed herself and her daughter.
Our media get to decide what we know because we are still too dumb to think for ourselves.

  6. GL0120 says:

Obviously a deranged Christian stirring up trouble, Muslims are peaceful.

  7. GL0120 says:

What, no mention of how he was driven to kill because of the horrific discrimination he’s endured because people were led to believe that 9/11 was perpetrated by Muslims? Damn that George W. Bush for engineering that fraud simply to finish what his father couldn’t!
Where is our lapdog, I mean watchdog media? This injustice cries out to be remedied!

  8. jobeth says:

When I heard this guy was an “Israeli” I sighed and wondered how the MSM would somehow spread their venom over the entire population of Israel. I should have known there would be other little details I needed to know.

Then…on Fox…I hear the little detail that the guy was an Arab from Israel!

Now we are hearing he is a “Christian” Arab. Sure…I believe this…Christian faith is noted for telling it’s faithful to go around killing.

Obama is “Christian too isn’t he? He is metaphorically doing the same thing to all of America. But of course, there should be no comparison between the two. We aren’t like the progressive left making “wild” connections.

After all, just because Obalmy planted his “Christian” self in an America, white race hating ‘church’ for over 20 years, and just because he covers over a crucifix during a speech, just because we have “57 states” and he accidentally admits his “muslim faith” in an interview, and just because “we are NOT a Christian nation” as he declared to the world, and he said we have more muslims in America than any other country. And just because he deeply bowed to a muslim king. And assigning, of all departments…NASA…to make the muslims feel good…. I could go on…but just because of the above, how could I doubt he is a Christian?…So it makes perfect sense that this Elias Abuelazam is also a ‘Christian” Right? Perfectly believable.

“This is the best family you can imagine. They framed him. He’s not like that. No way. I’ve known him since he was a kid. He’s been my neighbor since he was a kid,” one neighbor, who gave only his first name as ELIAS,(now that’s a surprise!) told AP Television News.”

He is just like all the other bombers and murders falsely charged young men from the middle east who have been arrested in America…Wonderful, quiet, hardworking, misunderstood…framed…religious, from a poor background etc etc.

You know, It’s gotten so that I avoid all convenience stores and businesses run by middle easterners. This may be unfair to the so called “moderate” muslims but how can I tell which of these are not going to attempt to do damage to one of us or our country in the future? I don’t like the idea that I would be funding this stuff.

Now, as good as my doctor has been to me…(he is an arab)…I am beginning to wonder if I’m better off looking for another doctor. I’m considering an elective surgery and the only doctors in my area doing this surgery are both muslims…I’m thinking long and hard if I want to have the surgery.

I HATE being like this…but frankly I’m getting a little paranoid with all these “wonderful” muslim people “coming out” in the name of their faith. But you know what they say…just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean someone isn’t out to get you…:-D

Seriously, at this point I’m not changing my doctor, but I am much more observant of personal behavior than I’ve ever been in the past..

Stereotypes have their roots in reality…even though each individual should be judged for their own behavior.

    Media Template

Assumed it to be a white man, filled with racial hate for black people, until it proved to be an olive-skinned Arab. ~Media interest wanes…..

Sounds like the ‘white man with Obama-hate’ who DIDN’T try to blow up Times Square.
~Media ran around making excuses for him. . .

Oh, and when will the media interest and investigation into the racist beer distributor rampager boil down to nothing? ~Why, it already has.

    1. Commentators demanding the tea party or Republicans reject the attacks
    2. Being above the fold front page news until the November elections
    3. 1 hour specials, “Are we a country of hate?” Interviewing whites and blacks about how much more effort is needed (and money, and affirmative action policies…etc) to bring racial peace
    4. Every possible news angle would be investigated dragging it on and on and on
    5. Obama would make it priority #1 to comment and condemn it

As it is right now, the media has forgotten, and reporting how the Dems are throwing pennies at the border problem, just in time to prime for elections.

  10. take_no_prisoners says:

This guy doesn’t look anything like the police sketch they put out! The police sketch looked like a white redneck–I imagined him with red or blond hair even–of Scots-Irish or German ancestry! Baseball cap and everything… Just sayin’

  11. Papa Louie says:

It was the ex-mother-in-law who told the press he is Catholic:

“Hirth said her daughter and Abuelazam met in Texas while he was visiting cousins who lived there. She said Abuelazam was Catholic.”

You can read her comments here: http://www.mlive.com/news/flint/index.ssf/2010/08/elias_abuelazams_ex-mother_in.html

  12. P. Aaron says:

Abuelazam; a common Jewish sounding name just like Cohen, Cantor, Zimmerman, or Feinman.
