AP: Winnie Describes Mandela’s Last Moments

From a memory deficient Associated Press:

Winnie Mandela describes ex-husband’s last moments

December 12, 2013

LONDON (AP) — Winnie Mandela says she feels "very blessed" to have been with ex-husband Nelson Mandela when he died, describing how she sat by his bedside until he drew his last breath.

What’s this? We thought we were not supposed to mention or even think about Winnie Mandela. And yet the AP comes out with this article? Naturally, however, the AP doesn’t even hint at Winnie’s er… ‘controversial’ record in South Africa.

She spoke to Britain’s ITV news about the pain of losing Nelson Mandela, saying that "one never prepares for death" and describing the "heavy feeling" surrounding his passing.

Though some do prepare for other people’s deaths. (If you catch our drift.)

"I went close to him and I noticed he was breathing really slowly. I was holding him trying to feel his temperature and he felt cold. Then he drew his last breath and just rested . He was gone," she said in an interview broadcast Thursday.

She told ITV the most difficult moment of the past week was when the military came to remove Mandela’s body and she realized "he was leaving the house for good."

She also described pain at seeing him lying in state, saying that "it’s very hard for the family to even share him even in his death after sharing with the whole world and our whole country while he was alive." "He’s still not really just ours, the family. He still belongs to the whole world and we have to share," she said.

Noting the sacrifices both had made over the years and the little time she had had to share with her then-husband, Winnie Mandela said she would "do that 100 times more."

"There is no greater reward than the one we both had of a liberated South Africa," she said.

Perhaps the safest thing to do is just cite one of  the former Mrs. Mandela’s more notorious quotes, and leave it at that.

From the archives of the UK’s Guardian:

Row over ‘mother of the nation’ Winnie Mandel

David Beresford | Friday 27 January 1989

… Some controversy has surrounded Mrs Mandela in recent years. A former social worker and considered a great beauty in her youth, she has shown enormous courage over the years in the face of imprisonment, house arrest and harassment by the South African authorities. More recently, however, she has shown questionable political judgment.

In 1986 she embarrassed the anti-apartheid community with the statement in a speech that "we shall liberate this country" with "our boxes of matches and our necklaces" interpreted as an implicit endorsement of the political killings by burning which did enormous damage to the anti-apartheid movement between 1984 and 1987…

But ‘forgive and forget,’ right? That’s the left’s motto, isn’t it?

Violent people now enshrined under the fog of racism.

Used violence to get what they wanted. And won.

    Or, did they?

South Africa’s economy cratered and has never recovered.

Mandela’s widow Graca Machel left her bedside vigil only for a moment to relieve herself, and
the ex-wife Winnie jumped at her opportunity to make sure Mandela would die in her arms to create newsworthy moment and for an entire chapter in her upcoming Biography.

“I went close to him and I noticed he was breathing really slowly. I was holding him trying to feel his temperature and he felt cold. Then he drew his last breath and just rested .

In walks Mandela’s wife Graca Machel shocked and trying to hold back hysteria. “I only left the room for a minute. What happened Winnie? What did you do? …..wailing”

Ex-Winnie: You shut your mouth. Don’t forget I was his one and only true love who spilled blood for the cause. Shut your mouth or I will write about you in my Biography. And You’d better kiss me in public every time I signal you to or you will take your last breath as I have the entire
    ANC military behind me.

In spite of South Africa’s violence and murder the ignorant media rewards a terrorist organization showing the true violent Mandelas.

Could one detach Mandela from the ANC?

Machel repeatedly dabbed her eyes with a tissue and looked down after receiving the carefully folded black, gold, and green flag during a special ANC tribute ceremony at the Waterkloof Air Force Base in Pretoria.

Earlier, two of Mandela’s grandsons thanked members of the African National Congress for the ceremony.

Ndaba Mandela called the ANC “the greatest African political organisation[sic]” without which “we would not have known Nelson Mandela”.

I could go into bloody detail of her deadly hands and fingers forming a deadly ring around his neck, her hot breath further suffocating the man who had dumped and humiliated her in front of the entire world and not leaving her with the fortune his death would bring the woman who replaced him. No book royalties, no t-shirts, mugs or plates, and “no bobble head dolls”. By golly she would bobble his head if it was the last she or his head did. Squeeze. sob. sob. snif.

Yes, especially with all last minute drama Mandela’s buddy Tulu (ms?) stirred up crying he wasn’t invited to the final ancient burial ceremony claiming it was because he had intervened for months in family feuding. He made it clear he was ready to tell.
