Top UK Bishop: Sharia Law Is Unavoidable
From those lovers of diversity at the BBC News:
The head of the Anglican church Rowan Williams, seen here in 2005, said the adoption of parts of sharia law in Britain looked “unavoidable.”
Sharia law in UK is ‘unavoidable’
Thursday, 7 February 2008
The Archbishop of Canterbury says the adoption of certain aspects of Sharia law in the UK “seems unavoidable”.
Dr Rowan Williams told Radio 4’s World at One that the UK has to “face up to the fact” that some of its citizens do not relate to the British legal system.
Dr Williams argues that adopting parts of Islamic Sharia law would help maintain social cohesion.
For example, Muslims could choose to have marital disputes or financial matters dealt with in a Sharia court.
He says Muslims should not have to choose between “the stark alternatives of cultural loyalty or state loyalty”.
In an exclusive interview with BBC correspondent Christopher Landau, ahead of a lecture to lawyers in London later on Monday, Dr Williams argues this relies on Sharia law being better understood. At the moment, he says “sensational reporting of opinion polls” clouds the issue.
He stresses that “nobody in their right mind would want to see in this country the kind of inhumanity that’s sometimes been associated with the practice of the law in some Islamic states; the extreme punishments, the attitudes to women as well”.
But Dr Williams said an approach to law which simply said “there’s one law for everybody and that’s all there is to be said, and anything else that commands your loyalty or allegiance is completely irrelevant in the processes of the courts - I think that’s a bit of a danger”.
“There’s a place for finding what would be a constructive accommodation with some aspects of Muslim law, as we already do with some other aspects of religious law.” …
Mind you, this is the leader of the Church of England speaking.
The supposed “defender of the faith.”

Wow. I wonder when he’ll call for the adoption of certain aspects of Old Testament law.

Why so shocked?
What do you think the left will advocate when Hillary /Obama takes office?

What ever happened to the Christian Soldier?! Why is it that today’s Christian clergy have so little faith. Are they so starved for acceptance? Hell, I’ve even had a minister with a growing same sex/cross gender congregation exclaim that Jesus was gay. Of course, I blew him out of the water with his own argument. Nonetheless, the need to sacrifice core beliefs just to get along seems to be a trait.

This could be good, it will create personalized laws. I for one am founding my own religious court that allows me to print my own money as soon as this practice finds its way here.

Doesn’t the the Archbishop of Canterbury know that he will have to abide by Sharia Law also? It will also sit in judgement of Christians.

The smoke of hell has indeed wafted into the highest reaches of the church, at least in the UK.

Is anybody in England listening to what this man is saying? He says: “One law for everybody… is a danger.” No wonder the Church of England is going down the tubes.
This man should be put in the stocks and publicly ridiculed. Or at the very least be made to wear a dunce cap everywhere he goes. “One law for everybody is a danger”, indeed.

Don’t get me started on the Archbishop of Canterbury …
I could forgive him if he was just a well meaning socialist who went on about world poverty.
But this man has systematically preached his loony liberal ideas from day one.
I cannot abide the man. I really, really cannot stand the man.

..”He stresses that “nobody in their right mind would want to see in this country the kind of inhumanity that’s sometimes been associated with the practice of the law in some Islamic states; the extreme punishments, the attitudes to women as well”………
WTF? Hey dipshit, when you allow sharia, you allow the inhumanity, the extreme punishments, the attitudes to women. That is what it is all about.

We have a local Catholic Rev (whose name escapes me) here in Erie, Pa., at Sacred Heart church, who is receiving alot of hassle because the church neon sign advocates for traditional marriage. What is so objectionable about a church standing up for it’s values? What is objectionable is the local gays saying that the Rev is “wrong” & that the sign should be changed. Hey, he has his opinion, you can have yours, but don’t call for the Rev to repress his own right of freedom of speech. Let everyone speak their mind. They call it “hate speech”, I call it one person’s opinion. You don’t like it, tough. I’d feel the same way if he was one of these morons that called for the extermination of Jews because they don’t believe in Jesus.
Where are the defenders of the faith indeed? Why this need to buckle under? It confuses the hell out of me.

Bye Bye England, you guys are SCAREWWWWEDD over there. Big time screwed. What do the traditional citizens of England think of this? I can predict with certainty that if a huge group of Englanders made their way to Saudi Arabia and wanted to adhere to traditional Christian laws instead of scaria, their heads would be sawed off with a rusty butterknife, then posted on youtube.

If this idiocy ends up happening and god forbid gets imported over here by the idiots on the left, there are going to be cults poping up demanding that their members should only be held to their “religious laws”. I can just see ones starting up basically allowing them to do anything and the real law can’t touch them becuase it wouldn’t be fair to them. You want to practice your barbaric and outdated tribal laws, go back to the middle east where the rest of you nuts are. It will be easier to stomp out these “laws” if the people who advocate them are all in one place.

The good Bishop doesnt realize that by succumbing to the muslims because of politically correctness and a vain effort to appease what amounts to plague germs….he is going to die. Sharia law has no room for infidels, and as the leader of the Church of England, his head will be displayed for all to see as an example of the power of Islam.
What a freakin loon. That entire country is going to experience a civil war that even the liberals will cringe at. Once the people of Britain realize their country is now a festering hole of middle eastern murdering pigs….they will revolt. Yeah, right, and my insurance rates in Florida will go down too…… Good bye England. We knew you well.

DGC, that’s the way it goes.
Conservative argument consists of “you’re wrong”. Liberal argument consists of “You can’t say that”. Once you understand that part, the rest all makes sense.
Check your local mosque, and you’ll see that ‘in their right mind’ is a more restrictive term than one might think.

Some “defender.”

Time for the PM to appoint a new one.

We all criticize the Archbishop for saying something stupid like this. Of course, when you accept Sharia law, you can not pick and choose which laws you want to follow, and which you do not. It is an all or nothing proposition.
Having said that, we can look at the Church of England and wonder and express shock at such idiocy, but how far along is this country in following the same logic? Me thinks we are a lot further down this path than many of us would care to admit.

Mrs Artboy’s father is active in the Church and has met Dr Williams; he likes the guy but, guess what, I don’t. I think he’s a classic self-hating, culturally insecure, moral relativist Leftist sap, so this is one news item that we won’t be discussing across the dinner table when he comes over on Saturday night.
The C of E has two excellent leaders, the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu and the Bishop of Rochester, Dr Michael Nazir-Ali, who have both been quite outspoken about the dangers of “multi-culturalism” but their boss, unfortunately, is this dope. “Muslims should not have to choose between ‘the stark alternatives of cultural loyalty or state loyalty”. That hairy fool can’t see that that is exactly the choice Muslims need to make if we’re ever going to see some peace round here. He also can’t see that Canterbury Cathedral is going to be the Great Mosque in about fifty years if the current colonization process continues unchecked and unchallenged.

Actually, it’s Queen Elizabeth II that’s the Fidei Defensor. Unlike Henry II, I doubt that anyone will relieve her of this troublesome priest.
She does have the power to remove the cretin from his post, however.

This Christian perpe(traitor) would have us obey Islam’s religious laws? I guess blasphemy is too old a concept for the Anglican Church to concern themselves with. Or is it one set of laws for the English and one for Muslims? The pattern in England so far is Christian’s sacrifice their freedoms and Muslims get away with murder. With that sort of trend you will end up with a privileged Muslim class and a subservient Christian one. But of course that’s always the way it is in Islamic nations that still “tolerate” foreigners amongst them. If Israel would accept this we could even have peace in the Middle East, right?
Every damn institution that is sacred to western civilization has been attacked with this gradualism. Christian religious orders were amongst the first and IMO many are totally lost. As many times as this pattern repeats itself you would think we would get it by now.
DGC
The incident at your local church isn’t an isolated one. It happens at many churches across the nation and too many give in eventually. One day homosexuality is a mortal sin and the next it’s a sin to reject it. This dilutes people’s faith by making God appear to be fickle and less believable. If you are a person of faith I hope you hang in there. I left my church when they refused to fight back.
At this link you can find similar attacks. WARNING-There is some partial nudity.

For every action there is a reaction. Seems as though the Archbishop of Canterbury is backtracking a little on his bold statements.

Don’t give up on us Brits just yet:

I suggest that he resigns now, and the excellent Archbishop of York gets the job instead:

With defenders like this, the faith hardly needs enemies.
Sorry for my extended absence, BTW.

“Sorry for my extended absence, BTW.”
You are forgiven. But go forth and sin no more.
