Arlen Specter’s Very Misleading Website

A casual visitor to this website might be easily duped into thinking that it is something other than a campaign website for Mr. Specter:

Cures Acceleration Network (CAN) Act Turning Research into Cures

For years and years, billions of your tax dollars have paid for medical research. There have been great discoveries – actually, we learn more every day – but where are the cures?

Between scientific discoveries and treatments which help ailing Americans is what many researchers call a “valley of death”. People are suffering, even losing their lives, who need not.

Today, that starts to change. Senator Arlen Specter intends to build a bridge over the valley of death.

Senator Specter has launched “Specter for the Cure”, a bold new initiative to reform our government’s medical research efforts, cut red tape and unstrangle the hope for accelerated cures.

The sufferers of cancer, autism, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and too many other afflictions have waited long enough. It’s time we unleashed the cure.

The centerpiece of Specter for the Cure is legislation to transform medical research by creating the Cures Acceleration Network (“CAN”) – a new institution, answering to the President of the United States, the sole mission of which is to turn medical research into disease cures.

To Senator Specter, this new direction for medical research is no less demanding – and even more important – than when our country set its sights on reaching the moon.

But there is one vast difference. On Specter for the Cure, you, and every American who cares about someone who is ill, can take the giant leap for progress…

This sure sounds like a noble cause, does it not?

However, if you click on the ‘Donate Now’ link you are whisked to a page where you can fill out a form and contribute up to $4,800 – which not to some medical center researching new cures – but straight to Senator Specter’s re-election Committee:

In 2010, Arlen Specter will seek re-election to the United States Senate. Without Arlen Specter back in the Senate to see it through, Specter for the Cure could be lost to the ordinary politics of Washington that kills real change. With his unsurpassed record of support for medical research, helping to return Senator Specter to the Senate is a powerful statement on behalf of those suffering with disease.

Become a member, today, of Specter for the Cure. Please contribute to Senator Specter’s re-election Committee — Citizens for Arlen Specter. All lawful contributions, of any amount, will be gratefully welcomed. Those who sign up to donate a minimum of $10 each month for ten months, will receive members only information on the Senator’s effort to transform medical research and accelerate cures.

Tell the Congress, the President, and the world, that the time to accelerate cures has come. Together, we "CAN" do it.

Paid for by Citizens for Arlen Specter

We wonder if the FEC is aware of this site.

You would think such misrepresentation would be illegal, even under ‘Scottish Law.’

Maybe now he will have time to fix his website from being so misleading (I think there have been people calling on the FEC to investigate:

“Specter for the Cure – Cures Acceleration Network (CAN) Act Turning Research into Cures”

It is actually a People for Arlene Specter site for campaign funds.

  2. pdsand says:

By jove, that’s almost as misleading as him calling himself a Republican all those years!

  3. JaneLovesJesus says:

sorry, I can’t even get past the “let loose the winds of a cure” line.

  4. beautyofreason says:

    Unleash the cure?

Sure Specter, a cure for cancer will magically appear if the people elect you. It’s all Bush’s fault. Laughing….

  5. Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

“You would think such misrepresentation would be illegal, even under ‘Scottish Law.’”

A week ago it would have been but you’ve obviously forgotten he’s a Dem now, so all’s fair!

  6. U NO HOO says:

“For years and years, billions of your tax dollars have paid for medical research. There have been great discoveries – actually, we learn more every day – but where are the cures?”

Just wait til they socialize medicine, everything will be OK!

  7. proreason says:

The requirements to run for congress are:
    – unbounded greed
    – the ability to lie effortlessly and willingness to do it for any reason
    – a gigantasourous ego
    – no concept of ethics
    – no shred of shame
    – absolute faith in the stupidity and gullibility of the voting public

    • heykev says:

Pro – what would be the requirements for President then? I thought these were requirements for President.

  8. WOW.. I mean… WOW!

This guy has some 80lb Kahoonies to be sure! I am amazed he can face himself in the mirror… WOW.. I am SO going to donate to whomever is the republican to put him down..

  9. Colonel1961 says:

Being a Senator sure yields a lot of power! Algore invented the internet and now Doctor Spoctor is going to cure our ills!

Hey, here’s an idea: how about humbly representing the people of your state, adhering to the Constitution, and keeping your ego from exceeding the size of the Grand Canyon. For the love of Pete…

Not to boast, but, the Great State of Alabama has one of the finest Senators of all-time: Jeff Sessions. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting this great man and he is so unassuming and so genuine that you have to sit back and think what an incredibly greater nation we’d be with more of his type in D.C. And when I think about Sen. Sessions and his manner versus swine like ‘Splash’ Kennedy, it just makes me sick.

    • curvyred says:

I know he is good, because the left-wing blogosphere is denigrating him at every chance ala palin.

  10. BatK says:

Why would they actually CURE a disease when the pharmaceutical companies (and our politicians vis a vis their lobbyists) make SOOO much more money treating the symptoms instead? The only thing that’s been “cured” in the last half a century has been impotence.

  11. jrmcdonald says:

I will send him my Obama tax cut!

  12. MinnesotaRush says:

Well .. at least he squarely “came out of the closet” and aligned on the D side of the aisle. You know, the party that is finely tuned and grounded in lies and Dee-ception! The Dems. The Libs.

  13. canary says:

I don’t believe he has ever told if he is in remission from his cancer battle after a year on chemo. Something, I think citizens should know about before they vote, or maybe politicans aren’t required. I guess that’s why he pushed the new stem-cell laws in. Guess that’s why he needs the money. Pay for medical treatment expenses during the campaign, a stop here and there on the road.

  14. Godsgrrl says:

Interesting…the pro-life group, Boundforlife came to mind immediately while gazing at this photo. http://bound4life.com/

  15. caligirl9 says:

Just what we need, yet another government “agency” reporting to TOTUS. Prerequisites for getting a position in this new agency: don’t pay your taxes and don’t be a health care professional. I bet there are a few more of TOTUS’ cronies looking for a gov’ment job. Or maybe some of the “survivors” of the WalMart trampling might work well in that new agency, they sure know how to get things done!

But because Arlen’s officially one of them, it’s all good. Just an honest mistake.

  16. Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

Senator Arlen Specter intends to build a bridge over the valley of death.”

Talk about a “Bridge to Nowhere”!

    • BatK says:

wow… it would be funny if it wasn’t such a pompous, ridiculous claim… sort of like promising “hope” and “change”

  17. Liberals Demise says:

As if he thinks he has anything to take with him when he crosses that “Bridge of Death”. ( he did cast his pearls before swine…….Reid, Piglosi, et al.)
From the looks of things………he’d better hurry!!

  18. wardmama4 says:

Has anyone checked out how to file an FEC complaint? It has to be sworn and notarized – just more ways to insure that the average Joe or Jane does not even bother to complain about the abuses and criminal actions of our public servants.

Senator Arlen Specter intends to build a bridge over the valley of death.”

My guess is that is Specter’s intention because he is just about to fall off that cliff into the valley of death.

  19. canary says:

Godsgrrl, It appears Specter has done an eerie spin and an assault on Boundforlife. His self-serving valley of death syndrome, a cure for his own cancer to stay in Washington til the day he dies. His pushing and accrediting himself for embryo stem search legistlation. vp Biden lied about the right leaving, Specter left for the left.
