Arrival Of Armed Men Made Lanza Stop Shooting

From the Associated Press:

Evidence hints at deadlier plan in Conn. massacre

By John Christoffersen and Matt Apuzzo | December 16, 2012

NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) — The gunman in the Connecticut shooting rampage shot his mother multiple times in the head before going to the school and gunning down 26, authorities said Sunday as details emerged suggesting that Adam Lanza had planned an even more gruesome massacre but was stopped short.

Notice how vaguely this is put. What stopped him short?

Lanza blasted his way into the building and used a high-power rifle to kill 20 children and six adults, including the principal, who tried to stop him, authorities said.

The unthinkable bloodshed might even have been worse. Gov. Dannel Malloy said Lanza shot himself as first responders entered the building, and a law enforcement official said Lanza had “lots of ammo” on him when he died, enough to carry out significant additional carnage

In fact, according to other reports, Lanza had enough ammo to kill everyone in the school.

“We surmise that it was during the second classroom episode that he heard responders coming and apparently at that, decided to take his own life,” Mr. Malloy said on ABC’s “This Week.” …

In other words, it was the arrival of people with guns that made him stop. Which is often the case in these killing sprees. A detail that is usually un-reported.

Why did his mother, a well-to-do suburban divorcee, keep a cache of high-power weapons in the house? What experience did Lanza have with those guns?…

Ginger Colbrun, spokeswoman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said earlier there was no evidence Lanza was involved in gun clubs or had trained for the shooting…

But don’t worry. They are finding things to blame.

From the UK’s Daily Mail:

How ‘ticking time bomb’ Adam Lanza went from ‘genius’ tech geek who grew up in a $1.6million home to heartless killer

By Rachel Quigley, Thomas Durante, Hayley Peterson and Michael Zennie | 16 December 2012

Crazed killer Adam Lanza was a ‘ticking time bomb’ who suffered from Asperger’s syndrome and was painfully shy and awkward, former classmates said yesterday.

Last night, a troubling portrait began to emerge of the ‘Goth’ loner, who dressed all in black and was obsessed with video games.

Others say Lanza used to be a mild-mannered student in high school, making the honor roll, and living with his mother, Nancy Lanza, who in turn loved playing dice games and decorating their upscale home for the holidays

Lanza used two semi-automatic pistols, a Glock and Sig Sauer, and reportedly wiped out an entire classroom of young children, then shot several in a second class before taking his own life…

Neither of which is an ‘assault weapon.’

Dan Holmes, owner of a landscaping firm who worked on the family’s home, said she was an avid gun collector: ‘She told me she would go target shooting with her kids.’ …

Last night it also emerged Nancy was a member of the Doomsday Preppers movement, which believes people should prepare for end of the world.

Her former sister-in-law Marsha said she had turned her home ‘into a fortress’. She added: ‘Nancy had a survivalist philosophy which is why she was stockpiling guns. She had them for defense.

‘She was stockpiling food. She grew up on a farm in New Hampshire. She was skilled with guns. We talked about preppers and preparing for the economy collapsing.’ …

So the media has probably found a whole new group of people to demonize: ‘preppers.’ And the Right will be blamed for scaring people into believing that the world is coming to an end.

    “execution style”

These are just 3 of the MANY phrases the media likes to use to portray a very ordinary event, but news sells, and they need to sell sell sell!

    1. 1 pull of trigger = 1 bullet. Nearly ALL weapons are semi-auto, but the liberal media likes to throw in that “automatic” part, which means nothing, as there is nothing automatic about a semi-automatic.

    2. pistol whipped is just a fancy term for “hit with the gun.” It also means nothing, as a clenched fist or any other object, is much worse than using an odd-shaped gun as a bludgeoning instrument.

    3. execution style, is also meaningless, as the result is the same as every murder.

…and they will ALWAYS cover-up or delete the fact that a gun was used to stop crime, especially if another gun was used. They don’t want the public to get any funny ideas that guns can ALSO be used to STOP crime, then heck, what do you need the nannying police-state for if you can cheaply and efficiently do something on your own?

And it’s almost always, “high-powered” and “arsenal”. I
guess “low-powered” firearms and “guns in the closet”
are not popular with the news writers.

Ah, yes, journalists. I remember in the 2-3 journalism courses I took in college the goal was to get as much attention as possible, so it was always “slaughtered” and shot “execution style.” This was before the fixation on assault weapons, which today is every gun is an “assault style weapon,” just like every killer is a mute Terminator like android. Notice that? They also are mute and don’t say a word, at least according to the factual journalist.

The story has been turned around who knows how many ways; first the mother was a teacher, then he killed his father also, then it was his brother. Supposedly he took two handguns and one rifle out of his mother’s “arsenal” of five weapons, and left the rifle in the car–yet all the media and people seem to be hearing is an assault weapon.

I’m not too sure about the mother being a doomsday prepper–not in an expensive house and dependent on alimony to keep going. It sounds to me like guns was a way to deal with her divorce, and was a late life interest. People who plunge into firearms can and do become fascinated by the power without respecting it. We’ll probably never know what happened with Adam and his mother, both because of the private lives they led and the media. Common sense would have been to keep the guns out of his reach, but who knows what the circumstances were.

I went through all the soul searching and wondering just what is going on with Columbine, which I see now as a cynical scheme by the media to play it up hoping they could prompt the public to press for gun control. How many copycats happened as a result of all the media hysteria?

As people keep saying it’s a different country–just 5-6 years ago I kept thinking it was getting better, the assault weapon ban had lapsed and the Supreme Court had ruled in favor of gun rights. But now–this may be the thing that finally tips it over the edge, just like in Australia and England. Previously the Republicans would hold fast waiting for the emotions to subside, now they’re curled up in fetal positions under their desks. If they do anything it’s bad, it they don’t, it’s bad.

Lost is any type of analysis of what really could have been done to prevent this. The typical workplace/domestic violence scenario is personal, and can usually be seen coming. Counseling and intervention can help, but not always. The point is the bad guy has a connection to his victims.

Attacks like this are either against society or to go out in a posthumous blaze of notoriety. The bad guy sees his problem with everyone and either anyone will do or selects his victims to cause the most pain. This is more a symptom of mental illness–the same as the Colorado shooter, the Stockton shooter, and countless others. Why they aren’t looking at that–how to identify and treat it, I have no idea.

Rather than arming the principal with an M4 is maybe a rapid response panic system. Someone hits a button, all the doors lock up with maglocks save the hallways leading outside so people trapped out of a room escape. The bad guy is trapped in a room or a hallway, but would have to break through every door to do more harm.

Loud sirens would shriek –heck, they could look at some of those disorientation devices that emit focused low frequency waves to make people sick and have it focus on any loud noise such as a firearm. Such a system would be expensive, awkward, and likely to never be used 99.99999% of the time except when people panic that an umbrella might be a rifle. But why not? Schools are practically prisons now anyway that soak up endless money for questionable results, might as well quit pretending.

It’s also something liberals would agree with, as it wouldn’t involve training with a firearm. Of course they could also look at collaring the media and Hollywood. In Germany it’s a law that spree killers aren’t acknowledged in the media, and it would certainly deny the path to notoriety to strike the bad guy’s name from history–but the liberals here would scream censorship.

How about amoral and violent movies? Nothing to me is more hypocritical than anti-gun directors and actors making movies of extreme violence, but they will anyways. Bad guy anti-hero in a video game is condemned, in a movie it’s art. Notice how Hollywood has been quiet so far? Probably because this shooting didn’t take place in a movie theater where they might get sued by the survivors and families.

And just the stupidity of the people arguing left and right on message boards, that availability of guns is all something recent. It was what, in the 20’s you could get a Tommy Gun? How about an M1 carbine after the Second World War, or the various guns of the sixties? Guns haven’t changed, people have.

Think about the earlier years, the corny TV shows and naive expectations to work a job and raise a family. And hardly anything approaching the laws we have today, and yet it was a lot more peaceful society. The liberals are alternating between hateful hostility and finger pointing guilt….and I’m just completely numb to it all now.
