Assault On Gun Ownership Drives Up Gun Sales

From The Hill:

Biden, NRA to meet on guns

By Justin Sink and Jennifer Martinez | January 8, 2013

Vice President Biden will meet with the National Rifle Association (NRA) and a range of other groups this week as President Obama’s gun violence task force shifts into high gear.

A flurry of meetings with Biden and other Cabinet members were announced on Tuesday that will include gun-safety and sportsmen’s groups as well as Hollywood and video-game interests.

The pace and scope of Biden’s work — the task force he is leading is said to be considering significant changes to gun laws and is scheduled to deliver recommendations to Obama by the end of the month — have left groups scrambling over who can attend…

After all, we can’t let this crisis go to waste. We have a ram through legislation while everyone is hysterical.

The White House offered few details about the meetings, with a senior administration official saying it would leave it up to individual groups “to decide whether to make any comment on their attendance at those meetings.” …

The Washington Post recently reported that the White House is weighing a broad approach on gun control that would go beyond bans on assault weapons and high-capacity clips that have garnered attention in the past. The Post said the Biden group was considering universal background checks for gun buyers —

Meanwhile, these same people complain about having to produce a photo ID to vote.

and a national database to track the movement and sale of weapons that would be sure to be opposed by the NRA.

Maybe a tracking system like Fast & Furious?

The administration official said Biden would meet Wednesday with gun-safety organizations and groups representing shooting victims, and on Thursday with gun-ownership organizations and sportsmen’s groups. Attorney General Eric Holder will attend Wednesday’s meeting.

The vice president will also meet with members of the video-game and entertainment industry, which have come under scrutiny in the debate over gun violence.

Biden will hold conference calls with elected officials from across the country as part of his effort, the White House said. Separately, Cabinet officials will hold meetings with organizations to discuss gun-violence prevention.

Education Secretary Arne Duncan will meet with education groups, parents and teachers. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will meet with mental-health advocates. Other senior White House staff members will meet with medical groups, community organizations and advocates for children and families to discuss gun violence, the White House said.

“Soon after” the meetings, according to the White House, Biden will pass his task force’s recommendations on to Obama, who will then release a set of proposals for reducing gun violence and urge movement to enact those proposals.

White House press secretary Jay Carney on Tuesday said Biden’s effort was designed to “get input” from a spectrum of interests.

“As the president said, he doesn’t want to prejudge any recommendations that any stakeholder might present,” Carney said.

Why the charade? Biden and Obama the rest of his administration and the Democrats have already made up their minds. The legislation has been sitting in their desks for years.

Meanwhile, we have this copy cat attempt for attention from the assholes celebrity pillow sniffers over at AOL’s Gawker:

Here Is a List of All the Assholes Handsome Law-Abiding Citizens Who Own Guns Some People in New York City

By John Cook | January 9, 2013

Below is a 446-page list of every licensed gun owner in New York City. I obtained it from the NYPD two-and-a-half years ago via a Freedom of Information Law request. Because the NYPD is more interested in raping and/or eating ladies and spying on Muslims than it is in honoring public records law, the list contains only the names, and not the addresses, of the licensees

This is what passes for ‘reportage’ at Gawker.

And if anyone wanted to really stir some shit up, they’d grab those Who’s Packing databases and throw them up on Google Maps.

Here’s the full, searchable, NYPD list

All of which is leading to this very understandable reaction, as reported by an outraged Forbes Magazine:

Fear About Gun Legislation Pushed Firearm Sales To Record High Last Month

By Abram Brown | January 7, 2013

Gun sales reached at least a 14-year high last month, according to a widely used, if imperfect, measure.

The FBI processed 2.78 million background checks through its national database (NICS), meaning last month was the busiest month ever for gun-sellers since NICS began in 1998. For contrast, authorities in Dec. 2007 processed 1.23 million checks, and five years before that, in 2002, only 974,000 checks…

Last November was another record-busting month: 2 million NICS checks…

[Y]ou can see the irony here: A shooting claims a great deal of lives, fear increases that anti-gun legislation will follow and folks promptly head out to stock up. Consider that during last July and August, months with two other deadly shootings, NICS background checks rose by more than 12%, to 2.8 million.

Greater irony still when you consider the politics behind this. While Democrats are among the loudest voices for new gun legislation, nothing has been better for the gun industry than President Obama…

The largest sales day in gun history came on the Black Friday after his first election, then again this year, when the NICS system crashed twice in late November, weeks after Obama’s reelection.

Once again we see that many ‘reporters’ today are confused about the meaning of the word ‘irony.’ It is perfectly understandable that major killing sprees should make people think about being able to defend themselves.

Likewise, it is perfectly understandable that all the talk about restricting gun ownership would drive more people to buy guns while they still can. The only irony here is that this perfectly natural human reaction seems to amaze so-called reporters.

Liberals are always out of touch with reality and, especially, normal human behavior. This is most likely due to the fact that they, themselves have been dysfunctional their entire lives and have had plenty of behavior modification reinforcement from their friends, teachers, etc.

These are the people who have to re-invent the English language to go from “cripple” to “handicapped” to “physically challenged” with each invented term getting farther and farther away from the intended meaning so that nobody’s feelings are hurt (except a conservative’s).

The same can be said for the evolution to the term “African-American”. So…what does a person do in the liberal-speak universe when discussing the race of a GENUINE African? Or, even better, a white guy who was born in South Africa, who emigrates to the US? He’s now an “African-American” is he not? Words, they mean things. The accusation the left likes to stab at the right with is the “sweeping generalization” of words that “conservatives like to use” but they ignore that their attempts to “fix” what they perceive as a problem actually makes it worse.

Like the word “Oriental” vs. “Asian”. Well, I was chastised once for using the word “Oriental” and I found it more apropos than any other word when I was referring in conversation to a woman I had spoken to whose national heritage was not known to me but she appeared to come from somewhere in the Orient. I was quickly corrected. But see, people from India are “Asian” as are people from Siberia.

So, liberals, which make up the vast majority of hacksters who like to tell others what they think is going on in the world around them feel very empowered with lefty twits running Washington DC. The past four years have been very, um, “enlightening” in the sense that the media has been removing its shawl of legitimacy to reveal themselves as socialists who want an all-knowing, all powerful, Santa-Claus government to make decisions for them because, at the very base of their own existence, they know that on a personal level, they suck at making decisions for themselves. It’s much easier on the mind to not have to think about personal responsibility if the government has put a fix in place, like banning firearms. That will set your mind at ease, most certainly when a gang of thugs are raping your girlfriend and you get to watch while they point guns at you. Because, see, those guns would be “illegal” and thus, those mean, nasty people who keep them locked up and use them for target practice and enjoy having them around to secure their homes, will be punished for that heinous act, should you live through it.

Liberal logic. Might as well use newspaper to keep the rain from coming in.

If the NRA agreed to “meet” with Joe ‘Our Crazy Uncle’ Biden, this means we’re being backdoored. The NRA will fold like a cheap tent.

“Gun control? Gun confiscation? Look how well that’s working in Afghanistan”

In protest, treat yourself to this:

  4. Astravogel says:

I’d advise the NRA rep at this meeting to wear a latex
glove if shaking hands with any of the politicians, and
check for his wristwatch afterwards. It’s all for show
anyhoo, they’ll do what their supporters expect them
    to do. Molon Labe !

  5. Anonymoose says:

Yep, Biden and ‘Bama have done more to drive up gun sales than any Republican could ever have hoped.

A meeting like this was inevitable, to give the appearance of being bipartisan–and actually the NRA should have requested it, to show they were trying to participate in the process even if no ground would be given.

What they should do is take control of the narrative, as nothing in Biden’s history indicates he wil be reasonable or pro-gun, but lay out how reasonable and pro-active they tried to be in face of his prejudices.

Instead I’m 95% certain it’ll be Biden saying he tried to talk with them but they wouldn’t listen and the NRA issuing some statement about how they refused to budge.
