Astroturf For Healthcare – $10-$15 Hr!

From one of the dozens of current ads on Craigslist:

Date: 2009-07-27

Now is our chance to make health care work.

America’s health care system is broken. Health care costs are spiraling out of control, throwing families, businesses and government into financial crisis. Families are worried their health coverage won’t be there when they need it. Our country can’t afford to wait for health reform that keeps costs down and protects consumers.

We can’t wait for affordable, dependable health care.

We’re fighting for health care that will protect families’ financial health, lay out a clear path for all Americans to afford health care, and improve patient safety and quality care.

You can work for change this summer.

Join motivated staff around the country working to make change happen. You can make great friends and money along the way. Earn $4000-$6000 this summer.

From the website of the Fund For The Public Interest:

Canvassing: Winning campaigns and building organizations one person at a time

If you ask anyone who’s canvassed for the Fund in the last 25 years, they’ll probably give you a thoughtful dissertation on the value of canvassing. Any of our more than 50 partner organizations will too, as will leaders throughout the progressive movement. Boiling it down, there are at least five good reasons to canvass:

  • Raise money to fund campaigns and build an organization
  • Sign up members for an organization
  • Educate the public about serious problems and real solutions
  • Build name recognition for an organization and campaign
  • Influence decision-makers

And then there’s the profound, positive impact of canvassing on the people we canvass and the canvassers themselves. These impacts aren’t easily measured, but they undoubtedly help lay the groundwork for a healthier, more vibrant democracy.

Over 25 years, the Fund has helped over 50 organizations win their campaigns & build their resources. We can help your organization, too.

To find out more about the power of canvassing, visit http://www.canvassingworks.org.

For media inquiries about the Fund and about canvassing, please contact TheFundMediaRelations@fundstaff.org.

From their ‘About Us’ page:

Fund For The Public Interest

Fund For The Public Interest is a national nonprofit organization working to increase the visibility, membership and political power of the nation’s leading environmental and progressive groups.

The Fund was launched in 1982 to develop campaigns and technologies to engage Americans in public interest advocacy efforts. Through our fundraising and non-fundraising canvasses,  we’ve gathered over 20 million petition signatures over the past 25 years and raised over $20 million for our partner organizations in the last year alone.

Current Fund partners like Sierra Club and Human Rights Campaign are expanding their donor base and passing tougher legislation against air pollution, forest clear-cutting, hate crimes, and special interest money in politics. We owe our success to the fusion of our staff’s grassroots organizing experience, cost-conscious attitude and work ethic with our partner groups’ issue expertise, initiative and vision.

We’re best known for our canvass programs. Over the years we’ve developed the nation’s largest and most effective network for door-to-door and street canvassing—signing up members in high traffic, public places. We sign up sustainers—members who commit to automatic monthly contributions from a checking account or credit card—as well as one-time contributors. We are also one of the nation’s most prolific signature gathering operations. We have pioneered other creative outreach methods, like canvassing at concerts and gay pride festivals.

And here is what you are buying:

Battle-tested grassroots professionals

We provide a variety of services to help our partners achieve their political, fundraising and membership goals. We operate the nation’s largest fundraising and membership canvassing network.  We recruit potential activists and volunteers to enhance your advocacy efforts. We run petition drives, qualify ballot initiatives, and register voters.

The Fund’s senior management team has over a century of combined grassroots organizing and fundraising experience, and we’re ready to put it to work for you.

Isn’t it odd how easy it is to find these organizations on the other side?

And yet after all of these years we have heard so little about them.

It’s almost as if we don’t have a watchdog media.

Yes, but they’re doing it for the right reason! They’re doing it for everyone! And it will be free!!! Whee!!!!

  2. dulcimergrl says:

Where is the money coming from to pay all these “volunteers”? And who is printing up all the petitions and signs and t-shirts and stuff? Wow, just wow.

But I forgot, the Tea Party Patriots, etc. are the astroturfers, doncha know…

Somewhere…somehow…however deeply you have to dig into this bowl of muck…I’ll bet a little ACORN can be found.

It is “managed” by Douglas Phelps who is Chair and Pres of http://www.environmentamerica.org which is by another step related to the “WE campaign” or “REpower America” through Rob Sargent, who’s wife is a Harvard director of human resources.

There is a startling similarity in the ADS being used by the health care folks, and the “REpower folks..”

I am still working on the direct connection.

  3. I wonder if they accept FAX job applications at that phone number?

    New revelations…

    1) The Obama folks are inviting people (spamming) them to go to Republican senators and bug them in their actual offices. The note from one invite is near the bottom below.

    2) More disturbingly, Democrats are creating partisan health care training events at government locations. I found a partisan Health Care event at a government entity in Sumter, SC. The problem is the health care event is to train volunteers to spread the message about how to promote the Obama agenda.

I told the organizer that it is not correct to hold a politically partisan event at a government location. The place is at the Regional Transit Authority of the Sumter region.

This is what I got back:

Jim I can not identify you as a volunteer with the Sumter Chapter of Volunteers for Change? Do you have another name or which team are you on? Who invited you? VFC is a civic group of volunteers and is not open to the public. I can not even identify you as a registered voter in Sumter, Please contact me with more information about yourself and your affiliation, if you plan to attend this training event. We welcome all volunteers that have a common agenda, but someone in Sumter must nominate you for membership.

The location of the event was scheduled by a volunteer team leader that works for the RTA. It is a volunteer meeting and not a political meeting. If you have any questions about the venue please call me directly.
    Rick 843.—.—-

I have emailed back that I am reporting him to the Regional Transit Authority, the newspaper in town, The Sumter Item and the Democratic Party of SC. I also told him I am passing it along to the SC GOP.

I explained to him this was not proper: you cant hold a politically motivated event at a government location — even if someone who works there has organized it!!! Unbelievable!!

Here is part of email inviting me to go bug Burr:

    Jim —

All throughout August, our members of Congress are back in town. Insurance companies and partisan attack groups are stirring up fear with false rumors about the President’s plan, and it’s extremely important that folks like you speak up now.

So we’ve cooked up an easy, powerful way for you to make a big impression: Office Visits for Health Reform.

All this week, OFA members like you will be stopping by local congressional offices to show our support for insurance reform. You can have a quick conversation with the local staff, tell your personal story, or even just drop off a customized flyer and say that reform matters to you.

Jim, Obama is spending his vacation holding rally’s to push his health care at National Parks heading to West? Is that legal or illegal?

Said no fees will be charged. I think it’s for a major photo-op shoot, a lure to make it easy for vast crowds in fetal positions, fists clasped together in prayer and worship to the great SOB. The Son of Beast wants to recreate Hitler’s crowds for his scrap book and movie.

  5. Diane says:

Yeah, I got that same email and posted it in the selected news thread. Mine directed me to Kay Granger’s office. Mine has no indication of a “training session”. I clicked on a link to sign up to harass visit her office, thinking I might just occupy one of those slots. Unfortunately, I have an actual job during those times, and it’s a good half-hour away from her offices.

Keep us up-to-date on what happens there. I’ll be very interested if you can stop them from using government facilities to hold a partisan rally. I mean, we can’t even hold a Bible study at my school…

  6. canary says:

Maybe they can help our organization. Save the Honey Bees.

“Over 25 years, the Fund has helped over 50 organizations win their campaigns & build their resources. We can help your organization, too.”

Looks like the Lions Club has joined the Obama’s united we serve team.

    • Liberals Demise says:

“There are none so blind…….as those who will not see.”

Looks like the Lions will lose their members as will AARP and others who hook their wagons to the Dinglebarry freight train to hell!!

  7. Liberals Demise says:

    I missed the whole point………..

They want to bury us with his “Shovel Ready Jobs”.
    Now I get it!!

  8. texaspsue says:

See. I told you. The Liberals always tell on themselves. Now who’s astroturfing Ms Pelosi? Astroturfing indeed!

Sorry folks. The Democrats are going to lose this round.

  9. bluebird says:

There is also this “astroturf” organization hiring many people in Boston to support Obamas agenda.
