Axelrod Reveals Real Reason For Gun Laws Push

From the Daily Caller:

Obama lashes out at GOP, NRA after gun bill fails

By Neil Munro | April 17, 2013

President Barack Obama lashed out Wednesday at Republican Senators and the National Rifle Association after the Senate’s jarring defeat of his gun control bill, which aides have recently described as one of the president’s top three priorities in 2013.

“To change Washington, you, the American people will have to sustain some passion about this, and when necessary, you have to send the right people to Washington, and that requires strength and persistence and that’s one thing these families should have inspired in al of us,” he said during an emotional late afternoon speech from a podium in the Rose Garden.

For the record, repealing Obama-Care is far more popular with the public than more gun control laws have ever been. So shouldn’t we be electing more people who will overturn Obama-Care?

Gun advocates “willfully lied,” Obama complained. “It’s a pretty shameful day for Washington.”

Naturally, he cannot cite any specific lies. Whereas the lies that he and others told about Obama-Care are legion.

The president was standing alongside some of the parents of the children killed in the December school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, along with former Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was severely wounded in a 2011 shooting spree in her home state of Arizona…

But Obama doesn’t use these people as props. Even though nothing in the Senate’s bill would have had any bearing on the Tucson or Newton shootings.

Although the president chastised “90 percent of Republicans in the Senate” for the failure of his gun control vision, his own party showed lukewarm support for the Toomey/Manchin amendment. Democratic Sens. Mark Pryor of Arkansas, Max Baucus or Montana, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Mark Begich of Alaska and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada all voted against the amendment. Reid’s vote was a procedural move that preserves his ability to bring the measure up again, but Pryor, Baucus and Begich are all facing elections in 2014…

And it’s harder for the Democrats to steal election in the ‘off years.’

The defeat also curbed Obama’s efforts to use gun control as a wedge issue against House members in swing districts in the 2014 election.

If the Senate had passed the bill, Democrats could have lashed House members for not supporting what the president calls “common-sense gun reforms.”

Still, this is what this gun control push has always been about. And not ‘the children.’

Obama let his anger and frustrations show during his statement. “When Newtown happened, I met with the families, and I spoke to the communities and I said … we’re going to have to change,” he declared.

“That’s what the whole country said. Everybody talked about how we’re going to change something to make sure this didn’t happen again. Just like everybody talked about how we needed to do something after [the movie theater shooting in ] Aurora. Everybody talked about how we needed to do something after [the shooting of Giffords in] Tuscon,” he continued…

Who is lying here? Again, nothing in the Senate bill would have prevented any of these shootings.

But some, like Obama’s top handler, are not willing to let give up on their well-laid plans so easily.

From the Politico:

Axe wants retribution on guns in 2014

By DONOVAN SLACK | April 17, 2013

Former Obama adviser David Axelrod is already looking beyond today’s gun vote.

… Axelrod is looking for gun-control advocates like New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg to stick with the cause and seek retribution through the mid-term elections.

"A bunch of suburban, swing district Republicans in House are probably deeply relieved that Senate appears poised to kill background checks," he tweets.

Thereby revealing once and for all that this issue was all about defeating House Republicans, and nothing else.

"Interested to see if Bloomberg and others who’ve worked hard on this issue remain active in 2014 elections, holding no votes accountable." …

Axelrod wants to turn Michael Bloomberg into another George Soros. Which, come to think of it, he already is.

But even Vice President Joe Biden, who has been working the phones and making speeches pushing the measure, signaled Tuesday night that it would fail and that he had hoped the public’s support for the measure would have swayed lawmakers. Axelrod hinted that so far, the public support reflected in polls has not been enough.

"90% or not, until Congress feels a backlash from voters for opposing common sense laws like background checks, they won’t cross gun lobby," he tweeted.

The Democrats who voted against this bill felt the backlash. That is the problem.

But, again, note the repetition of the lie that 90% of the US public support this bill. 90% of the public supports background checks. Thanks to our news media, they do not realize that background checks are already required for all intents and purposes.

Yes indeed, shame on you Nerobama for refusing to attend Margaret Thatcher’s funeral. Shame for not having the common decency even to send a ranking official representative.

    Shame indeed.

But do I detect a note of disapprobation? Pipped, are we?

No new gun control laws. Tsk, tsk. That is a shame.

Then allow me to make amends. Here goes :

Indeed. I am shocked. Shocked, I tell you. (My eyebrows are elevated.) Tut-tut. (I am tut-tutting.)

I shall go down for breakfast now. But as penance I shall forgo the buttered toast with marmalade. And only one cup of tea to settle the nerves … the Bigelow’s Earl Grey decaffeinated, I think. With just a dash of cream. And the scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream, I think. Yes. Yes, the scones. But no toast this morning. No, not after all this. (My mustachios are growing droopy.) Tut-tut.

Then perhaps an after-breakfast stroll in the garden. Where I shall heave a sigh among the daffodils.

Yes, one sigh. I think that should about cover it, don’t you?

    Cheerio, comrade Nerobama.

Sandyhook school survivors ran in Boston Marathon where a 26 second remberence was given before the race for the 26 victims. They had a private roped off section for the family and survivors and all were able to reach safety.

The laws would not have stopped their school shooting, and Obama is planning on executive actions according to Shot-Gun wheeling Joe Biden.
