AZ Rep Giffords Shot, 5 Killed By Lunatic

From a conclusion jumping Associated Press:

Arizona Rep. Giffords shot, at least 5 killed

By Terry Tang, Amanda Lee Myers And David Espo, Associated Press
January 8, 2011

TUCSON, Ariz. – Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot in the head Saturday when an assailant opened fire outside a grocery store during a meeting with constituents, killing at least five people and wounding several others in a rampage that rattled the nation.

Giffords was among at least 10 people wounded, and the hospital said her outlook was "optimistic" and that she was responding to commands from doctors despite having a bullet go through her head. The hospital said a 9-year-old child was among the dead, and a U.S. Marshal said a federal judge was also fatally shot in the attack.

Giffords spokesman C.J. Karamargin said an unspecified number of her staff members were injured in the shooting. Congressional officials said an aide to the Democrat was killed, and President Barack Obama said five people died in all. The reaction to the shooting was swift and rippled across the globe. Obama held a nationally televised news conference to express his condolences. The shooting cast a pall over Capitol as politicians of all stripes denounced the shooting as a horrific act of violence. Capitol police asked members of Congress to step up security in the wake of the shooting, and some politicians expressed hope that the killing spree serves as a wakeup call at a time when the political climate has become so emotionally charged

Police say the shooter was in custody, and was identified by people familiar with the investigation as Jared Loughner, 22. Pima County Sheriff’s officials said he used a pistol to carry out the shooting spree…

His exact motivation was not immediately clear. Federal law enforcement officials were poring over captured versions of a MySpace page that belonged to Jared Loughner and over Youtube video published to the Internet weeks ago under an account "Classitup10" and linked to him. The MySpace page, which was removed within minutes of the gunman being identified by U.S. officials, included a mysterious "Goodbye friends" message published hours before the shooting and exhorted his friends to "Please don’t be mad at me."

In one of several Youtube videos, which featured text against a dark background, Loughner described inventing a new U.S. currency and complained about the illiteracy rate among people living in Giffords’ congressional district in Arizona. Two spellings of his last name were given in the aftermath of the shooting — Loughner and Laughner.

"I know who’s listening: Government Officials, and the People," Loughner wrote. "Nearly all the people, who don’t know this accurate information of a new currency, aren’t aware of mind control and brainwash methods. If I have my civil rights, then this message wouldn’t have happen (sic)."

U.S. Marshal for Arizona David Gonzales confirmed to the Associated Press that U.S. District Judge John Roll was one of the dead…

Giffords has drawn the ire of the right in the last year, especially from politicians like Sarah Palin over her support of the health care bill.

Her Tucson office was vandalized a few hours after the House voted to approve the health care law in March, with someone either kicking or shooting out a glass door and window. In an interview after the vandalism, Giffords referred to the animosity against her by conservatives. Palin listed Giffords’ seat as one of the top "targets" in the midterm elections because of the lawmakers’ support for the health care law.

"For example, we’re on Sarah Palin’s targeted list, but the thing is, that the way that she has it depicted has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that, they have to realize that there are consequences to that action," Giffords said in an interview with MSNBC

The shooting comes amid a highly charged political environment that has seen several dangerous threats against lawmakers but nothing that reached the point of actual violence.

A San Francisco man upset with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s support of health care reform pleaded guilty to threatening the Democratic congresswoman and her family, calling her directly on March 25 and threatening to destroy her Northern California home if she voted for health care reform.

In July, a California man known for his anger over left-leaning politics engaged in a shootout with highway patrol officers after planning an attack on the ACLU and another nonprofit group. The man said he wanted to "start a revolution" by killing people at the ACLU and the Tides Foundation.

During the his campaign effort to unseat Giffords in November, Republican challenger Jesse Kelly held fundraisers where he urged supporters to help remove Giffords from office by joining him to shoot a fully loaded M-16 rifle. Kelly is a former Marine who served in Iraq and was pictured on his website in military gear holding his automatic weapon and promoting the event

This is a senseless tragedy.

But the Associated Press is despicable for trying to tie it to Sarah Palin and the Tea Party and the conservative movement in general.

From his online postings it would appear that this murderer believes that the US is a terrorist country, which is fighting two illegal wars. He considers the police to be unconstitutional. He likes videos of the burning of the American flag. He was upset for being given a Bible in military training even though he had checked off “no religion” in his entry profile. He does not ‘trust in God. – He does no sound like a typical Tea Party Sarah Palin fan.

The AP knows this. But they are hoping to create a false impression that will stick in the public’s mind. They will use anything they can to advance their agenda, even a killing spree by a lunatic.

Congresswoman Giffords and six others shot, killed, in Tucson

The noose was being hitched to the Tea Party before she had even died. All the shooter had to be was a white male hitting a Democrat. Gee, such a wonder how we never see such journalistic leaps when a suspect happens to be, oh, just forget it.

Barack Hussein Obama, the Great Uniter. A new era of peace and hope.

Oh, and by the way, we had just learned that New Mexico’s new Conservative governor and legislature had taken a heavy axe to an Enviro-Fascist panel called EIB. They touched the untouchables, just sayin’. People like Lincoln, Kennedy, and Reagan found themselves in precarious situations when they go that much against the grain. The problem for the Ruling Class mob is it’s embodied in a grassroots movement that’s on the verge of taking control of the national agenda at the present. How do you discredit an entire movement? Well, you have to make it look extreme.

    • Freedom615 says:

Unbelievable! The left-wing lunatics are already out in full-force saying things like the “Tea Party reign of terror has begun” without a shred of evidence mind you. In the reports I’ve read the shooter had an automatic weapon. But wait… aren’t those illegal? As long as the libs are allowing us to speculate allow me to play devil’s advocate and say it was either a member of La Raza, a member of one of the drug cartels or an illegal. The congresswoman is purportedly tough on illegal immigrants. Call it the “Bloomberg Syndrome.”

Or, wouldn’t it just be best to calm down, wait for the facts (unless of course the shooter was a member of one of the aforementioned groups, then the story will buried) and say a prayer for the congresswoman, the others who were injured and the poor 9-year-old child who reportedly died?

    • DW says:

The shooter was a 22 year old white male named Jared Loughner.
Both the left and the right are turning this into something that supports their own cause-du-jour.

I heartily agree with Freedon615’s comment:
Or, wouldn’t it just be best to calm down, wait for the facts (unless of course the shooter was a member of one of the aforementioned groups, then the story will buried) and say a prayer for the congresswoman, the others who were injured and the poor 9-year-old child who reportedly died?

According to FOX, the bullet that hit Rep Giffords, entered her temple and exited her forehead. The lady has a long row to hoe ahead of her. Let’s wish her the best.

From his Youtube page: “In conclusion, my ambition – is for informing literate dreamers about a new currency; in a few days, you know I’m conscience dreaming! Thank you!”

Sounds like a nut. And speculatively, not a tea party member. There is no detail in his video that links to conservative or liberal politics.

UPDATE: One of his favorite books is listed as the Communist Manifesto. I guess Nancy Pelosi will be disappointed.

    • River says:

Notice that the Fort Hood shooter didn’t kill for Islam. Noooo, Islam had nothing to do with it; religion of peace! But the Tea Partiers! Now that’s a violent group!

    • Mithrandir says:

LoughNER is a Jewish name, is it not? –ner is usually a Jewish name suffix, it am sure.

-Just saying, because the media is trying hard to dig up ANYTHING about the Tea Party in this incident, but haven’t gotten around to the “ner” connection and that the victim was also Jewish.

    • proreason says:

It hasn’t been mentioned in the liberal’s media, but the Congresswoman is a Jew.

Don’t be surprised if that fact doesn’t end up being a factor.

    • hushpuppy says:

      @mithrandir: “… -ner is usually a Jewish name suffix…”

You mean like BoehNER? Or MillNER?

Sorry, you lost me. What does any of this have to do with whether or not she’s Jewish? Would you be asking this question if she was Catholic, Protestant, agnostic or a member of a group that worships the Great Pumpkin? Or how about Slavic surnames? There are thousands of slavic surnames that end with ‘ner’. (I’m of slavic descent, so I should know.)

(shaking my head) Really, Mithrandir – what difference does it make?

    • Liberals Demise says:

Lough’ner’ is the shooters last name.
But I’m with you, Who cares and what does it matter?

    • proreason says:

My hunch might turn out to have been correct.

The shooter was a member of an anti-semetic group.

  3. Enthalpy says:

Pro’s suggested characterization of the msm as “the liberal’s media” may be seen in all it’s glory as it covers this tragic event.

  4. proreason says:

The shooter’s a lunatic. If the utube channel is legit, he is over-the-top insane; not insane in the sense that we severly disagree about something, but insane in the sense of severe mental problems.

The AP is the Alan Grayson of “journalism”. They are a disgrace.

In a sane world, the AP would be the subject of the President’s comments on this topic.

  5. Moose Breath says:

The media will let this narrative simmer until Monday, at which time they’ll admit that maybe he was just a nut. Or a Tea party nut? Who’s to say?

Then they’ll smoothly transition to gun control advocacy.

  8. Papa Louie says:

“Giffords has drawn the ire of the right in the last year, especially from politicians like Sarah Palin over her support of the health care bill.” — AP

And Sarah Palin has drawn the ire of the left for several years, especially from politicians like Grayson, and Pelosi, as well as from media personalities like Behar, Letterman, Coric, and the AP itself, in this “news” report. If Palin was targeting Giffords for violence by her rhetoric then the left must be targeting Palin for violence by its hate-filled rhetoric against her. If anything happens to her, then the AP and its friends on the left have already convicted themselves by their own logic.

Did Barack Obama Cause the Shootings Yesterday in Tucson?
Posted by Jim Hoft on Sunday, January 9, 2011

Did Barack Obama cause the shootings yesterday in Tucson?

The media and democrats want us to focus on the nation’s “caustic political climate” after the tragedy yesterday. Maybe they should start with President Obama. He may be the worst offender. (Each with link, see article, below)

      ** Obama: “They Bring a Knife…We Bring a Gun”
** Obama to His Followers: “Get in Their Faces!”
** Obama on ACORN Mobs: “I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!”
** Obama to His Mercenary Army: “Hit Back Twice As Hard”
** Obama on the private sector: “We talk to these folks… so I know whose ass to kick.“
** Obama to voters: “Republican victory would mean “hand to hand combat”
** Obama to lib supporters: “It’s time to Fight for it.”
** Obama to Latino supporters: “Punish your enemies.”
** Obama to democrats: “I’m itching for a fight.”

If the media really wants to improve the “caustic political climate” they may want to start at the White House.

And don’t forget the rally were the peaceful liberals were chanting “kill Michelle Malkin” I’ll never forget that one, or the peaceful rallies in favor of illegal aliens.

  9. Over 100 Police officers gunned down each year.

Murders in Detroit alone eclipses that.

And there needs to be blame attached to a conservative leaning movement for some nut job to have cut loose from reality and do nutty things.

    How convenient.

Otherwise, I have a message to the sheriff (Dupnick) who inserted his own feelings into this murder ( tragedy ) investigation.

You have admitted you have no idea what his (the killer’s) motivations were, yet implied quite strongly, that the radio programming caused this man to snap. You suggested we begin ‘soul searching’ as a nation, and tone down the rhetoric, as it causes these things.
while I understand your emotions must be quite active when your friends have been hurt in such a way, you do yourself and your community a disservice by assigning blame when you have no idea whether your words have any basis in truth. Perhaps ‘just the facts’ would have been more appropriate in this until such a time when it can be determined why this happened.
In fact your estimation of the cause has become immediately suspect, as this particular perpetrator of this horrifying multiple murder seems to share more commonality with those who already dislike those ‘radio influences’ and in fact might otherwise agree with what seems to be your natural opinions.
I hope you are able to justify in your mind the value of your comments as they incite merely more of what you seem to be complaining about. In other words, you will now become the focus of discussion as what is wrong with our government officials. At least for a short time.
My prayers are with you and the families of the slain or injured Arizonans. Indeed, Americans should not have to endure such things, but I pray also that the proper perspective can be placed on this, and that the appropriate responsibility can be assigned when it can be properly demonstrated.
    Best regards.

And on it goes…….little mention of the attacks Sarah Palin endured, the shooter was identified as a left-leaning student by his classmates, or that his favorite book was the Communist Manifesto.

The left has their template, is angry they lost the election, this is their only chance to convince people that this was the REAL result of the election–pfft!

  13. Moose Breath says:

Those weren’t “gun sights” on the SarahPac election map. They were surveyor symbols. But unfortunately the truth doesn’t matter.

  14. Rusty Shackleford says:

Here we have arrived at the basic, fundamental symptom of what makes these people dysfunctional. The all-consuming anger and hatred misdirected at a target of opportunity. Unfortunately, given the nature of human-beings, it is difficult at best and impossible at worst to predict what any person will do at any given moment. However, the left’s insolvent belief that all things are controllable by man, to include the weather, whale populations and earthquakes, leads them down the illogical path of false assumptions and even when faced with the cold, hard reality of things, they refuse to acknowledge it. Thus you have a permanent impasse. Historically, the conservatives have tried placating the loose lefty wingnuts. We see how that worked out. Then, they tried actively embracing some of their weird ideas, again, with failure being the most obvious result. But when it comes to something as heinous as this, in spite of the fact that sensible people will say, “This guy Loughner is off his nut. A real case; dangerous” it is EXACTLY the left wingers who would’ve said, “He’s a nice guy…we need to understand him, not lock him up or confine him.” They do not understand that the brain is incredibly complex and that humans have centuries of study to do if we are to ever understand it. Psychiatry and Psychology are still in infancy and in one hundred years, many of the “treatments” and “therapies” that are employed now will be dismissed as “bear skins and stone tools”. Such is the nature of an evolving science. To say that Loughner was unbalanced is to say that water is wet. It’s now obvious. But, given the tolerant nature of people, it’s easy to say that although there were probably indicators of it, he had never done anything to indicate he would “snap”. Thus we run into the difficulty of diagnosing mental conditions. To say nothing of their causes. Diabetes, heart problems, vitamin deficiencies, drug use, both legal and otherwise, on and on, all have an effect on mental state of well-being. Let the investigators put the pieces together and though it’s unfortunate that the media, the liberal’s media will paint a truly horrific picture or…when it’s discovered that his construct was basically that of a deranged communist hopeful, then they will bury it and say no more.

This is where we are today. Where the entity that in the 1700’s would’ve been executed for the printing of the truth, we now have an insufferably self-satisfying organ that somehow has fallen deeply in love with marxism and the desire to make everyone “equal”, except, of course, themselves. Still not understanding that if they get what they wish for, the first people to be gotten rid of will be them.

I have a long list of what and who to blame. One is the pack nature of people in general. Second comes our love of TV. Third comes the education “system” and how it has been gerrymandered to allow people to be losers while being comfortable with that. And finally, the parents who are “too busy” with their day-planners and taking Ignatz to daycare to spend any real time with their kids that isn’t a repeat of “feel-good time” at school and otherwise. In other words, parents who use passive punishment which only teaches their kids how to manipulate things psychologically instead of the fact that actions have consequences.

We are becoming largely an irresponsible society. Although much desired by the elected officials who think that creates more voters for themselves, they fail to adhere to the adage “be careful what you wish for” because…as has just been proven…such leniency and tolerance probably has something to do with why Loughner was able to do what he did.

The all-consuming anger and hatred misdirected at a target of opportunity

      It’s not misdirected.

      It’s deliberate.

The anger and hatred part is spot on. They hate anybody who stands in their way.

  15. RightWinger says:

Here is your lefties in action….

If the responsible paryt of a violent action yells “Allah Akhbar” just before comitting the act, we must not make any rush to judgment, just in case it really was a Tea Party or Sarah Palin supporter.

Must be a bummer to discover today that the Regressives new poster child for hate is acutally one of their own.

But, since you are probably talking to some MSM brain washed microcephalic, you could do what I’m going to do. Shrug and echo the old lefty bumper sticker “No Justice, No Peace”. There was never a problem with their threat, was there?

    • RightWinger says:

I also read on the latest news that he also believed that Bush and the Govt was behind the 9/11 attacks.

Of course this and what you have cited has been thrown up in the faces of the lefties in my work place, but they wave their hands and go right back to citing their MSM talking point that this is Sarah Palin’s fault for spreading hate in this country. Except hate, as now defined by the Regressives, is the view point of anybody right of center.

There is no reasoning with these people. None.

  22. Liberals Demise says:

N.C.Congressman Brad Miller 13th District (D) is now calling for an investigation in to extreme groups such as the American Tea Party. He states he saw people wearing T-shirts at rallies that had “We didn’t bring our guns this time” printed on them. He says that they are abusing the 1st Amendment and this can not be allowed.

    Folks…….here it comes!!
Watch as our gubbamint grabs more of our Rights for our own good.
As for me …. it’s beer, cigarette and 2nd Amendment time!!!!!!

Doubt Obama did a repeat happy shout out (applause) to a group after 1st learning of the shooting, as he did moments after learning of over 30 Ft. Hood soldiers by a muslim who worked for DHS, unless he was having a meeting with muslim or illegal Mexicans whom votes he depends on.

I hope Sarah Palin reads the riot act to BBC’ Mark Mardell, North America editor for his ongoing slanderous statements against her. He’s got so low as to provide irrelevant links. The sob, sorry ole brit.

Jim Report/ Well, you understand the Democrats don’t consider a growing child to be human until it’s a finished product. I guess until they are an adult. That’s why they aren’t teaching Civics and Government to youth in high school in pubic schools anymore.

Reports are the killer monster was anti-semitic, a juvee record, heavy metal band member, kicked out of high school, and kicked out of college for mentally deranged behavior.

She’s a human being, a wife and a mother and she’s been shot in the head. Maybe you don’t have any pitty for her Jim; but I do. I was always disgusted by the heartlessness, violent language and selective compassion of the Left; that’s part of why I’m not a Leftie anymore and I’m sorry to see anyone on our side talking like that.

  25. confucius says:

    Thank you artboy.
