Benghazi Criminal Charges Leaked (What Timing!)

From an unquestioning CNN:

First criminal charges filed in Benghazi attack probe

By Evan Perez | August 7, 2013

Washington (CNN) – Federal authorities have filed the first criminal charges in the investigation of the deadly terror attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, people briefed on the matter said.

Several suspects charged in the armed assault last September 11 include prominent Libyan militia figure Ahmed Abu Khattala, the sources said. Other identities were not disclosed.

The counts initially sought months ago in New York are still under seal, according to the sources.

So this was a leak. What a shock. And what great timing, coming as it does when CNN is finally showing interest in this phony scandal.

Of course, we can expect Obama to track down the leaker and punish them.

The investigation of the attack that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans continues, these people said, as investigators try to build their case against Khattala and others who authorities believe were involved…

Yes, the investigators are focused like a laser on building their case against Mr. Khattala. That’s why no one from the US or Libyan government has ever contacted him, let alone interviewed him almost a full year later.

Besides, how can you bring criminal charges in a phony scandal? Or are these phony criminal charges, too? Moreover, isn’t it a scandal that the White House is treating this like a crime instead of an act of war, which it was?

But word of the development comes as the Justice Department has come in for sharp criticism from congressional lawmakers about the pace and progress of the investigation…

And right after CNN having decided to show some interest in the phony scandal.

And, once the leak was put out there, we have this confirmation via an unquestioning Associated Press:

AP sources: First charges filed in Benghazi attack

By DONNA CASSATA | August 7, 2013

WASHINGTON – The Justice Department has filed the first criminal charges in the deadly attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, two U.S. officials said Tuesday.

The officials confirmed that a sealed complaint was filed in U.S. District Court in Washington against an unspecified number of individuals in the September 2012 attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. One official said those charged included Ahmed Abu Khattala, the head of a Libyan militia. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss a sealed filing.

Which just confirms that this was a coordinated leak by the White House.

The New York Times reported late Tuesday that Khattala had been charged with murder and that he has said in an interview that he is innocent. At least two other foreigners have been charged in the attacks, the newspaper said.

Earlier, CNN, NBC News and The Wall Street Journal reported that unspecified counts had been filed and sealed in the Benghazi attack.

In other words, the White House leaked this news to the New York Times, CNN, NBC News and the Wall Street Journal. They wanted to make sure everyone heard about it.

"The department’s investigation is ongoing. It has been, and remains, a top priority," said Justice Department spokesman Andrew C. Ames, who declined to comment further…

Almost a full year later no one has been apprehended or arrested. We would hate to see what the Justice Department would be doing if this wasn’t a "top priority."
