Biden: Redistribution Is ‘Just Being Fair’

From Yahoo Finance’s Tech Ticker:

Joe Biden on Taxes: You Call It "Redistribution of Wealth," I Call It "Just Being Fair"

by Aaron Task

… There’s also the issue of whether these tax cuts, in conjunction with the health care reform bill signed last week, represent a redistribution of wealth in America, as many claim.

"It’s a simple proposition to us: Everyone is entitled to adequate medical health care," Biden says. "If you call that a ‘redistribution of income’ — well, so be it. I don’t call it that. I call it just being fair — giving the middle class taxpayers an even break that the wealthy have been getting."

The top quintile of Americans earned 55.7% of pretax income and paid 69.3% of federal taxes in 2006, according to the most recent CBO data. But the Vice President isn’t buying the idea that the wealthiest are already paying their fair share, noting the top 1% of earners get 22% of all income made in the U.S.

"Taxes have been lowered for the wealthy considerably over the years," he says. "It’s about time we get a little tax equity here."

40% of Americans pay no income tax at all. In fact, they get free money in the Orwellian-named “earned income credit.”

Where is the fairness in that?

Aren’t these people patriotic?

By the way, in 2007 the Bidens reported an income of $319,853. And, according to financial disclosure form filed with the Senate, Mr. Biden also received a $112,500 book advance from Random House – which somehow does not seem to have been counted as part of their income.

And yet the Bidens gave less than a thousand dollars to charity.

Where is Joe’s ‘fairness’?

What percentage is Biden paying? Does he really need all that money? He should give 80% (at least) of his money to the poor before he starts making remarks like this. Why isn’t the first question from reporters “How much money do you have and how much do you “need” and how much of it are you going to give to the poor so that we can have a fair society? It’s all a bunch of bunk. It is the middle income people who will be paying through the nose for this new scam. I would love to see an interviewer hold up Biden’s tax return and question him. The best part about Biden is he is too stupid to keep his mouth shut.

Slow Joe is a shrewd investor.

He lives in a 6800 square foot lakeshore home on 14 prime wooded acres in Deleware that he bought for about $350,000 in the mid 90’s. All totally legit, of course. He’s known as Honest Joe.

That’s when 3 bedroom 1800 square foot houses on postage stamp lots were selling for about $200 a square foot in LA and many locations in East Coast states.

So he really isn’t worried about himself.

And since he patriotically pays his taxes, he sees no need to give to charity. His charitable donations were running at about 1/2 of 1% for the years before he became vice president. Not to make an unfair compariston, greedy Dick Cheney gives about 40% of his income to charity, but Dick isn’t as shrewd as Slow Joe.

While I know you are being tongue in cheek, your comment reminds me of a woman at my church…who will YELL at anyone she hears complaining about O’Balmy…said just about the same thing. (Typical lib)

Speaking about her brother who has two homes she complained “he doesn’t need two houses”. So therefore he should give one up I guess…to feed the poor of course.

She also complains…LOUDLY…about Bush’s torture (water boarding) and thinks she is …oh so Christian because she gives money to the sign holding beggars at the corners. She thinks I am not behaving like a Christian because I pass them by. These guys probably take more money in than I do…and much of it goes for drugs or booze.

When asked how she felt about enabling them she just tells us she is sure they wouldn’t do that. They are just hungry.

      Right! They are just lazy!

Progressive libs just tick me off.

jobeth, you have uncovered a classic liberal symptom that is often prevalent in children. It’s been discussed many times here but at the heart of it is the liberals immature ego. Somehow, they were “scarred” by something and then it was reinforced either through self-preservation mechanisms or by being constantly made to feel guilty at some point in their lives where they were most vulnerable.

Overcompensation then shows up by not only behaving in a guilt-addled way but by criticizing those who don’t see and act as they do. But at the very bottom of the well, you will find a very insecure child, who has survived by piling on tons of behavior mechanisms to at least come up to feeling “adequate”. This is why liberals need to be surrounded by other liberals. A conservative will stand there with the strength of their convictions while a liberal will seek out other liberals to validate their opinion.

Unfortunately, the old techniques of ignoring them and going about your business no longer work because while you try to do that, they will then come and get in your face. And when they finally push you to the limits of your tolerance and you get angry, they have their moment of victory.

But you can really get under their skin, as does Rush, Ann, Hannity, and even Beck by constantly bringing up facts that they cannot answer.

And for many of us, this is what has had us so angry at our own party. “Why is no one asking them the tough questions?” Why does it never happen that Biden, Pelosi, Reid, etc get called on the mat and get forced to explain themselves? We did see it with Obama and the FOX interview…where he was getting fidgety and hot under the collar. But it doesn’t happen often enough. They need to be put on the spot and when the CEO’s who actually decide to come chat with congress, I hope the CEO’s hand them their ass in a bag. I don’t know how it will play out but I have my hopes. A repeat of Howard Hughes in one of his more lucid moments in replay would be nice.

We are, and will remain, at a divide in this nation. “Progressives” will never get that whatever others earn is not theirs to take, or to give away. Every liberal I’ve ever met has been very selfish with their time and money and seldom gives of themselves in a positive way. I once worked at a law firm that was filled floor to floor with them. They had no problem asking me to help them meet a quota but when it came my turn, they were too busy, or otherwise occupied or even ran off. So when I stood my ground and declined any help to any of them later, I suddenly became the bad guy.

I think it really is a mental illness. I did get the opportunity to flame a couple of them later on and laid it all out plainly. The eyes rolled and they even tried to interrupt but I told them to shut up and listen. Then, when I was done, I said, “Now, does anyone dispute the facts and events as I’ve described?” Nobody said a word, amazingly. I went back to my “cube” and went to work and I quit later that month.

You cannot get through to them. It’s like Bill Cosby talking about going shopping with the kids and how when the mom says no, they keep right on asking. Brain Damage.

It’s pervasive, it’s mentally lazy, it’s annoying and it’s dumb. The final problem is that there are so many younger people out there who’ve never been told they aren’t very good at anything, they think they are actually smart. Obama is a great example. He couldn’t hook two paper clips together without help but he’ll be happy to tell anyone else how to do it.

I had a commander like that once. Had no idea how anything worked. I had no idea how he made rank until I learned he was so politically oriented the generals thought he farted stars. I just found it disgusting.

But you described the insecure nature of all liberals and the one thing they NEVER seem to discover is that they are never satisfied. You will find that many of them are binge eaters, have social and chemical dependency problems, or did and bought the 12 step BS to “get well” and as long as they have their support group, they can almost function. The people who “help” them should really teach them how to not be dependent….to be satisfied that there are times when they won’t like others, be liked or even like themselves very much. But, that’s the parents’ job and sadly, about 1% are any good at being the life-coaches their kids need them to be.

So this is where we are. A huge population that is emotionally dependent on “green” energy, global warming being real, mankind being inherently evil, along with anyone who makes money that doesn’t fit their mold of a “good person” (meaning someone as f____ed up as they are)

I had a friend…..he was a die hard republican. Then, he became an alcoholic….and now he’s a card-carrying commie. very firm in his hatred of anything conservative. But needs his support group to validate it every Thursday.

      Amazing. Simply amazing. Stunning, actually.

And not just a little bit sad.

Government definition of fairness: “Rob Peter to pay Paul, so we can always count on Paul’s support.”

Paul surly will think it is ‘fair.’

  2. Labeling Joe a “neo-marxist” is fair, too.

  3. Grzegorz says:

I sure am glad “Nobody Messes with Joe” Biden got his Senate (BTW – Who paid for them?) cufflinks back!

  4. Mithrandir says:

The government doesn’t decide what fairness is, the public decides. Perhaps he doesn’t remember, “For the people, by the people.” The Constitution and fairness is to regulate government, not the other way around.

Considering the kick-backs, pay-offs, votes -for-money schemes that pass for a ‘fair’ electoral system, there is no way possible that government can objectively decide fairness. We have a sick society, not a ethical, contemplative, and fair society.

  5. MinnesotaRush says:

I wonder if Mr. Biden could follow the words and spirit of one of our Founders?

“James Madison, author of our Constitution, wrote, “I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents… If Congress can do whatever in their discretion can be done by money, and will promote the General Welfare, the Government is no longer a limited one, possessing enumerated powers, but an indefinite one… The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. … There are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations.”

I wonder if any of the current administration could track with Mr. Madison?

Of course, I ask, knowing the answer.

    Incompetent and dangerous boobs!

    • AcornsRNutz says:

And to think, Madison/Adams/Hamilton/Washington were the MORE SUPPORTIVE of strong central government in those days. Now I personally despise the politics of Madison in the post Revolutionary days, and lets not forget that Washington personally led troops against citizens in the Whiskey rebellion, but can you imagine how wonderful it would be if our government now was Jeffersonian Vs Hamiltonian instead of “smattering of conservatism” vs outright fascists? What a wonderful problem if to have!
