Bill Clinton defends wife’s Bosnia remarks

April 11, 2008Former President Bill Clinton gave a passionate defense Thursday of his wife’s claim about “landing under sniper fire” — just as the damaging controversy was dying down.
Bill Clinton said the news media treated her like she had “robbed a bank” and claimed she was experiencing end-of-day fatigue, even though she had made the claim in morning speeches.
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) acknowledged two weeks ago that she “misspoke” and “made a mistake” in her overly vivid account of the 1996 landing in Tuzla, Bosnia, during a goodwill mission as first lady.
Video of a tranquil arrival ceremony refuted the claim, and her comments hurt her struggling campaign by reviving questions about her candor.
Now, her husband has revived the issue by claiming the comments were true during a “Solutions for America” campaign event in at Boonville High School in Boonville, Ind. Here are his comments, recorded by networks and reported by CBS News:
“You know, I got tickled the other day. A lot of the way this whole campaign has been covered has amused me. But there was a lot of fulminating because Hillary, one time late at night when she was exhausted, misstated — and immediately apologized for it — what happened to her in Bosnia in 1995 [sic]. Did y’all see all that? Oh, they blew it up.
“Let me just tell you. The president of Bosnia and General Wesley Clark – who was there making peace where we’d lost three peacekeepers, who had to ride on a dangerous mountain road because it was too dangerous to go the regular, safe way — both defended her, because they pointed out that when her plane landed in Bosnia, she had to go up to the bulletproof part of the plane, in the front. Everybody else had to put their flak jackets underneath the seat in case they got shot at. And everywhere they went, they were covered by Apache helicopters. So they just abbreviated the arrival ceremony.
“Now I say that because what really has mattered is that, even then, she was interested in our troops. And I think she was the first first lady since Eleanor Roosevelt to go into a combat zone. And you woulda thought, you know, that she’d robbed a bank the way they carried on about this. And some of them, when they’re 60, they’ll forget something when they’re tired at 11 at night, too.”
CBS News producer Ryan Corsaro, who covers Sen. Clinton, reports she made the claim in mid-morning on St. Patrick’s Day.
CBS also has aired videotape of the senator making the remark on at least two other occasions.
The Eleanor Roosevelt claim also has been questioned, since Pat Nixon traveled to Vietnam in 1969…
This is a sad testament to the Clintons and to our times. It seems to be impossible for either of them to separate fantasy from reality.
And despite the claims to the contrary, the Clintons are not even good liars:

If the Bosnia story is true, as Bill is claiming, what exactly did she forget? What did she have to apologize for?
And as we have repeatedly noted, Mr. Clinton has repeated her Bosnia claim numerous times, including back in December 2007, at the very beginning of the campaign, when she was a fresh as a daisy she will ever be.
And no, Hillary never apologized for her lies. And her Bosnia trip (such as it was) was in 1996, not 1995.
But so much for petty details.
A larger question might be if Mrs. Clinton is too old and tired to get the facts of her life straight, should she be the person answering the red phone in the White House at 3 o’clock in the morning?

But what is perhaps more troubling, this entire episode once again points up how it now seems impossible for the general populace to understand anything unless they see it on videotape.
For just like in the case of Reverend Wright, we had long ago exposed Mrs. Clinton’s fabrications about her Bosnia trip using her very own words — or at least those of whoever ghosted her autobiography.
CBS also has aired videotape of the senator making the remark on at least two other occasions.
Similarly, no one seems to ever count the first time Mrs. Clinton has made this claim, on the eve of the Iowa Caucuses.
Apparently, if it is not on videotape, it did not happen.
We have become a country of sub-literates, living in a new Dark Ages.

Hillary Clinton spokesman Mo Elleithee said in a statement: “Senator Clinton appreciates her husband standing up for her, but this was her mistake and she takes responsibility for it.” …
Bill Clinton attempted to smooth things over Friday.
“The fundamental fact is she went there, everyone that flew around with her … had Apache helicopters guarding them and there was some risk, of course,” he said. “And she did a good job, and she did a good job for the troops, but she is right. I wasn’t there. I don’t remember the facts right either.” …
Of course the Clintons and “facts” will always be strangers.
And, lest we forget, Mr. Clinton has promised to butt out before. But he just can’t help himself.
He always has to be the biggest liar in the room.

Don’t you just love the new media? Our own SG has single handedly exposed many truths in his articles at S&L. (Bravo to you SG, by the way.) Politicians, et al can no longer tell whopper lies and spread BS anymore and get away with it.

Hahaha, yep…. the end of the day is the best time to exaggerate and outright lie about your life experiences. Maybe that’s the rule in the Clinton house that you can claim “end-of-day fatigue” whenever you get caught in a lie.

So called “Dark Ages” were not as “dark” as the liberal, progressive historians led so many to believe but that is another topic altogehter. It is just more than a bit startling to see the liberal-coined term “Dark Ages” used by a conservative.
But I agree with the main points of the Clintons being pathological liars and USA becoming “a country of sub-literates”. That was obvious when Bill got elected for the POTUS first time, then second time around and now it is even more evident with Hillary and Barrack being the top Democratic contenders and actually having any following at all.

Ah but you all forgot - Clinton lies, Barry speaks well. And McCain, well - he means well (sometimes, on even numbered days, when it is sunny outside - whatever). . .
What is catching the fiberals (most), politicians (a lot) and the msm (not at all) is that the alternative media is exposing all their lies - past, present and future - for the World to see - and there isn’t a damn thing that any of them can do about it - except attempt to minimize the damage. . .Usually with my all time favorite - well, I might have _______(fill in the blank - lied, stolen, cheated, had sex with, was in conspiracy with) but the Republican/Conservative did this ______(fill in the blank - got a divorce, got a C in college, can’t pronounce nuclear). Moral relativism that is inane, hypocritical and most of the time laughable.

Bill could use a “global worming”! I think he’s tripped over the edge ths time for sure. Just when the noise over the “sniper fire” incident was subsiding, he goes and stirs it up again. Hillary’s pissed! She’d cut him off, but she doesn’t know where he’s gettin’ it. He must have inhaled a lot more than cannabis smoke, but whatever it was, it has taken its toll. I get the distinct impression that behind that second-rate mind, a third-rate mind is struggling to the surface!

When our children were young, many years ago, some of the contemporaries got into “mischief” and the parents were shocked. All the parents had to do was pay attention to the world around them like I did and there would have been no shock.
If Bill, BO, etc., would just read these comments they would know a reasonable truth.
But, “the crowd he addresses, buys the manipulation” because the crowd wants to buy it. I suspect he is just feeding the dogs the dog food the dogs want. No offense intended toward dogs.

Wife lies about said event on more than a handful of occasions, Gets busted and throws up more lies to cover it up, Finally she makes a half ass excuse that the media calls an apology.
And here comes the other mouth from the south trying to cover his wife’s lies, Is told in no uncertain terms to shut up, so she can try and recover the lies that she thought were already put to bed.
Moral of the story, Bill is a liar, Hillary is a liar and they are both willing to lie to prove they are not liars.
Bill has balls so small that gnats giggle, Hillery has balls big enough to make Bill whimper, and you still cant see either set of balls with an electron microscope.
