Clinton’s Little White Lie About Haiti

From an un-fact-checked Time Magazine:

What Haiti Needs

By BILL CLINTON Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010

Hillary and I went to Haiti for the first time in December 1975. A banker friend of ours had some business down there. He had built up a lot of frequent-flyer miles and called and said he was giving us a delayed honeymoon. We were married in October, and we went down there in December. Both of us just kind of fell in love with the country, and I have kept up with it ever since…

According to Wikipedia:

Frequent-flyer program

The first modern frequent flyer program was created at Texas International Airlines in 1979. But lacking the computer horsepower of its larger competitors, TI was overtaken by American’s introduction of AAdvantage in May, 1981

And from the American Airlines entry for Wikipedia:

American Airlines

AAdvantage is the frequent flyer program of American Airlines. Launched May 1, 1981, it was the first such loyalty program in the world, and remains the largest with more than 50 million members as of 2005.

And according to American Airlines own history of their frequent flyer program:

AAdvantage Program Overview

The AAdvantage® program is American’s travel awards program. It was the original travel awards program, established more than 25 years ago, and today is the world’s largest program.

Moreover, one of the things that was necessary before there could even be any frequent flyer programs was airline de-regulation, which only occurred in 1978.

This is mentioned in all of the histories of frequent flyer programs, such as this one from FrequentFlier.com:

Before such primitive loyalty programs could develop into what we now know as FFPs, two events had to occur:

* Deregulation (1978) created the marketing environment.

Pre-deregulation, airline marketing was almost exclusively "strategic": image advertising with complementary product offerings (Southwest, the "Love" airline, featuring flight attendants in hot pants; sophisticated TWA featuring a piano lounge on the upper deck of their B747s).

* Computerization created the necessary systems infrastructure.

FFPs as we know them would be impossible without massive data-storage capabilities to warehouse the customer files, and the sophisticated database software necessary to manage that data.

The importance of the airline deregulation in 1978 is also stressed in this 2001 article, from WebFlyer:

It Was 20 Years Ago Today

They may not have begun as a drawing on a napkin and they may not be dot-com wonders, however, frequent flyer programs have come a long way and carved their own niche these last two decades.

By Randy Petersen (May, 2001)

Unlike modern myths of popular pastimes, frequent flyer programs did not begin in a garage, they weren’t scribbled out on a napkin in Bob Crandall’s kitchen, nor are they a dot-com wonder. The fact is that frequent flyer programs, while celebrating their 20th Anniversary on May 1, aren’t anything they started out to be except one thing – successful. The roots of these programs can be traced back to 1979 when Bill Bernbach, CEO of Doyle Dane Bernbach — the advertising agency for American Airlines proposed that American do something special for its best customers. At that time, Bernbach was watching with wonder as banks were offering toasters and electric blankets to their best customers and to new customers for opening up accounts. They were having great success with the idea. The agency’s idea was to offer American’s best customers a special "loyalty fare." Following deregulation in 1978, the airline industry was afloat with ideas that all evolved around airfares

So we believe it is fairly safe to say that Mr. Clinton was er… mis-remembering, as the Clintons are wont to do.

But at least there weren’t any churches being burned in this latest fantasy. Or, sniper fire.

Anyway, Mr. Clinton is probably not the person who should be writing about what Haiti needs, since he used the US military to restore Jean-Bertrand Aristide to power in 1994.

And we know how well that turned out.

A fascinating history of Democrat evil is the story of the actual shooting war between the Kennedys and Onassis over Haiti.

Onassis had been summarily bounced out of Monte Carlo, where he controlled most of the resort and gambling business. The royal family gathered up their strengths and ejected him after they learned from Joe Kennedy that Onassis was Europe’s #1 drug king pin, courtesy of his fleet of tramp steamers (former USA oil WWII oil supply ships, which another story of perfidy and crime).

Onassis went looking for the right place to set up his control of a sovereign nation, distribution of drugs and control of state-sponsored gambling and all that attends sins of the flesh. He chose Haiti, in no small part because of his influence over the French Connection. (France, haiti, etc.)

But the Kennedy Clan had their sights set on Haiti for other reasons, and so an actual mercenary war broke out between the sides. Joe and his government-aided goon squads and Onassis and his drug mercenaries.

In no small measure is Duvalier the result, and the hideous reign of terror that flows from insane strong men as puppets to larger interests.

You’ll note that David Letterman shook Hillary’s hand on stage and that day had heart surgery, as he jokes … all I did was shake her hand.

Well … who just visited Haiti out of the blue in early Fall ’09?

    Then the earth convulsed.

    Sure … it’s coincidence.

On the scale of liars, if Clinton is a 2, Obama is a 100.

Frat-boy Clinton wasn’t trying to overthrow the country.

So, is their stash okay? Follow the shovels.

If they gave frequent liar miles Slick Willy would have enough to fly to Pluto and back.

Clinton’s & Haiti article last May [unfact checked] “A good place to invest” said Bill who had just visited Haiti prior to UN appointing him followed by U.S. Hilary’s $57million stimulus package to Haiti..

FP The Cable: Exclusive: Clinton to be named UN special envoy on Haiti
    Laura Rozen May 18, 2009

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton will be named a U.N. special envoy on Haiti this week, sources close to the United Nations tell The Cable.

The Clinton Foundation did not immediately respond to queries; nor did the White House.

Clinton traveled with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to Haiti in March, on his fourth trip to the impoverished island nation of nine million people.

“I’ve been following this country for more than three decades,” Clinton told the Miami Herald. “I fell in love with it 35 years ago when Hillary and I came here….”

“The message I want to send to the rest of the world is what … the factory owner told me today,” Clinton further said. “‘These people work hard and they work smart. … Tell the world Haiti is a good place to invest’.”

Haiti is important to the former president, a former Clinton administration official said,…he had a history with Haiti when he was the governor of Arkansas; and it was one of the first issues that bubbled up when he was president, the former official said.

Clinton’s March visit to Haiti, where he remains popular,..

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited Haiti last month, where she pledged an additional $57 million in U.S. aid for the Caribbean country as part of a $324 million Inter-American Development Bank aid package.

The amazing thing about both the Clintons is that lies roll off their tongues so easily. Never a worry about being caught in a lie. What ever furthers their immediate goal and sounds folksy is just fine. (We won’t even address the REAL lies they tell in order to shaft the American people politically)

Is it because the type of people they get their votes from don’t have the intelligence to connect the dots?…Think so…

While Bill was prez, remember all the “Character does’t matter” chatter in defense of all his womanizing etc? Well it does matter…and this is what we get when we abandon character and honor in our public officials.

And remember how Hillary of course was named for Sir Edmond Hillary…who was a nobody when she was born. Of course she was.

    Never ends with these two.

Fact-checked! Wow. BJ, like “Plugs” Biden, cannot help himself when carrying on with his stories. It would be interesting to document how many lies he has told the hookers he sleeps with. Superb job!

  9. canary says:

They had to have somewhere to stash the $ millions being dropped by plane at that private airport years ago. A poor country they could befriend and make a run for if needed. Obama chose the Clinton’s to teach him the ropes of travel.

  10. mr_bill says:

Wait, I remember when Hillary talked about this trip, didn’t she dodge sniper fire, err… sorry, wrong self-serving Clinton lie.
