Black Caucus Want To Curb Ethics Office

From those champions of color-blind justice at the New York Times:

20 in Black Caucus Ask for Curbs on Ethics Office

By ERIC LIPTON

June 1, 2010

WASHINGTON — Twenty members of the Congressional Black Caucus, including its chairwoman, are asking the House to severely restrict the powers of an independent ethics office that has spent much of its first full year investigating accusations of wrongdoing among black caucus members.

A resolution introduced late last week by Representative Marcia L. Fudge [sic], Democrat of Ohio, and co-sponsored by 19 other black caucus members, would prohibit the release of most investigative reports prepared by the Office of Congressional Ethics. It would also prevent the office from initiating its own inquiries, unless a sworn complaint was filed by an individual with personal knowledge of the alleged wrongdoing.

So why even have an “Office of Congressional Ethics,” unless it is just window dressing? (This is a rhetorical question.)

The changes are merited, Ms. Fudge said, because the ethics office, known as the O.C.E., has taken up frivolous investigations that have unfairly damaged the reputation of House members.

Name one.

“O.C.E. is currently the accuser, judge and jury,” Ms. Fudge said in a statement Monday. “This isn’t the case in the American justice system, and it shouldn’t be so in Congress.”

It is the case with the Internal Revenue Service.

The office, which is run by a former Justice Department prosecutor and overseen by an independent board, has investigated at least eight members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Since Nancy Pelosi calls the shots on these investigations, she must be quite a racist.

After it investigates, the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct has the responsibility of formally deciding if any rules have been broken.

The standards committee has dismissed eight of the nine cases referred to it by the office, including four involving black caucus members. It has not concluded its work on three other cases.

The most important power of the office, it has turned out, is its ability to force the release of its investigative findings, even if the House standards committee concludes that no violation occurred, a power that would be eliminated under the new proposal.

For example, the standards committee in February ruled that four of the five black caucus members who traveled in 2008 to St. Maarten on a privately sponsored trip had not violated the House rules — saying they did not know that corporations were inappropriately footing the bill.

Only Representative Charles B. Rangel, Democrat of New York, was admonished, after the standards committee concluded that his own staff knew about the corporate sponsorship.

But the reports prepared by the ethics office included evidence that suggested all five caucus members who attended the event should have known about the corporate sponsorship.

So even though they were given a pass, the CBC is still mad that evidence in the ethics committee’s report made their members look bad.

Well, we certainly can’t have that.

A spokesman for the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, who lobbied other members to create the office, said she had no comment on the proposal by Ms. Fudge

She’s too busy draining the swamp.

I swear Black folks can do no wrong in today’s world and now we need to get rid of the ethic committe cause they KNEW they were doing something that would make them look bad. These people have rigged the elections in their districts because I am a constituent of one here in North County St. Louis Mr Lacy Clays district. They have the boundaries re-done to keep themselves in office forever and now have the gall to complain about how they want to cheat the ethic committe!!

    • JohnMG says:

Good luck with ever changing that, Chinnubie. It’s all graft and corruption and it spills over from the city into the County.

Look at the mess since McNary was gerrymandered from the County Executive position. And then there was “Jet” Banks, and before Clay Jr. there was his old man. And Clay County/Kansas City is no better. It’s pay-to-play in St. Louis just like in Chicago, or anywhere else there has been one-party rule for decades.

A system based on laws is racist.

Why can’t we be like Africa?

So it is no big deal to take a privately funded trip to a Caribbean Island – as long as you don’t know who is paying? These geniuses are claiming they are too ignorant to be unethical.

I believe this a preemptive strike to eliminate the ethics committee before the Democrats lose the House and face some real scrutiny.

      BINGO !!

If you read between the lines she is really saying, “You whiteys shut up and bend over. We been taking this from youse for too long. Damn it, we won”!!

  5. JohnMG says:

Strange that no one bothered to link this to the statistics citing more blacks than other ethnic groups in prison populations.

It has to be a conspiracy, I tell you. It couldn’t be that these folks are actually predisposed to criminal activity disproportional to their numbers. That no matter how they behave, they are somehow being victimized.

    Such pathetic wastes of skin!

    • proreason says:

I would say that they are taught to be criminals, rather than being predisposed to it.

It would be interesting to see the incarceration statistics from the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s from the northern states. That was from a time before the marxists destroyed black families, and the north was less prone to falsely accuse blacks than the south, which was still resentful of the Civil War.

I would bet that the incarceration rates were about the same for whites and blacks under those conditions.

Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and the Black Congressional Caucus aren’t solely responsible for the black crime rate, but they are the prime example of why crime is so prevalent in black communities, including black on black crime. It boils down to the fact that black people are taught by their leaders to be irresponsibile. Their leaders are the true criminals, and liberals are enablers.

At a deeper level, it’s just another strategy to undermine this country by the people who want to destroy it and replace it with an oligarchic dictatorship. African Americans and their so-called leaders are pawns in that game. The feminism movement is another element of the strategy. Feminism is the primary reason that marriage is no longer a prerequisite for having children. Combine that factor with the welfare state paying for babies, and you have created the perfect storm to make males in their 20’s into criminals. It didn’t happen as extremely to whites because white leaders (particularly church leaders) have continued to favor families as the basic societal unit. Jesse Jackson could have done the same thing, but he was co-opted by the marxists with money. Same for Sharpton. They are criminals of unimaginable magnitude, along with other preachers who aren’t as famous.

The reason that the situation never improves is that marxists don’t want it to improve. Even as black people were handed success on a silver platter, the crime rate got worse. By design. So now you have a group of educated and very angry black people giving their own people carte blanche to be criminals…by example and by demand. The marxists couldn’t have designed it any better. And responsible black people are damned fools to go along with it.

    • Liberals Demise says:

May I add that many blacks are uneducated and are sheep (followers).
Their leaders (who they listen to) are wolves in sheep skins and
have no problem leading them to the slaughter house.

      No scruples what so ever!

    • JohnMG says:

      …..”Predisposed….”

A rather unfortunate choice of words. Perhaps preconditioned would better meet my intended thought. As you point out, they are either taught by their leaders, or learn from experience, that there seems to be no retribution exacted for such irresponsible behaviors within the confines of their ethnic community. There’s big money in the victim-hood scam. In their mind, skin pigment should absolve you of all responsibility.

  6. Right of the People says:

Holding them to the same standards as whites is RACIST!!!

  7. untrainable says:

“Twenty members of the Congressional Black Caucus, including its chairwoman, are asking the House to severely restrict the powers of an independent ethics office that has spent much of its first full year investigating accusations of wrongdoing among black caucus members.”

That first sentence is wrong on so many levels. BigOil said “too ignorant to be unethical.” They’re not claiming it, they’re proving it with their request.

I wonder what the ethnic makeup of the “independent” ethics office is. If it were all white, they would have mentioned it, so it must be representative of those they are investigating. It’s a wonder Charlie Rangel didn’t get off scott free too. He’s obviously ignorant enough. Damn his staff for making him look… smart?

Maybe they should be complaining about the people who made the accusations instead of those who let them off.

  8. wirenut says:

ETHICS, yeah, ethics. Just a word, just a word in a long list of words corrupted and redefined by the left. Look what they have done to the words, freedom, justice, liberty, honor,or the pursuit of all the above. Ethics by nature, flowed though our founders veins like the blood in ours’ now, black and white. Under GOD we are ALL equal. Only under tyrants are we defined, and herded into groups. I’M NOT BUYING what their selling. My future, my talents, my life, my success and my failures come from what GOD has blessed me with. Not an elected official. Squander if you will, take advantage when you can. We the people are not that ignorant.

  9. DANEgerus says:

The ongoing (D)emocrat whitewashes can hardly be called “ethics investigations”…
