Bloomberg Makes Hospitals Hide Baby Bottles

From the New York Post:

Mayor Bloomberg pushing NYC hospitals to hide baby formula so more new moms will breast-feed

By MARY KAY LINGE | Saturday July 28, 2012

The nanny state is going after moms. Mayor Bloomberg is pushing hospitals to hide their baby formula behind locked doors so more new mothers will breast-feed.

Starting Sept. 3, the city will keep tabs on the number of bottles that participating hospitals stock and use — the most restrictive pro-breast-milk program in the nation.

Apparently, a woman’s ‘choice’ only applies to aborting babies, not how you feed them.

Under the city Health Department’s voluntary Latch On NYC initiative, 27 of the city’s 40 hospitals have also agreed to give up swag bags sporting formula-company logos, toss out formula-branded tchotchkes like lanyards and mugs, and document a medical reason for every bottle that a newborn receives…

Won’t this harm poor and minorities the most? Formula and baby bottles are expensive. You would think the city would want to encourage more freebies from the companies.

Under Latch On NYC, new mothers who want formula won’t be denied it, but hospitals will keep infant formula in out-of-the-way secure storerooms or in locked boxes like those used to dispense and track medications.

With each bottle a mother requests and receives, she’ll also get a talking-to. Staffers will explain why she should offer the breast instead.

“It’s the patient’s choice,” said Allison Walsh, of Beth Israel Medical Center. “But it’s our job to educate them on the best option.”

Trying doing that with abortion, and see if you don’t end up in jail.

Lisa Paladino, of Staten Island University Hospital, said: “The key to getting more moms to breast-feed is making the formula less accessible. This way, the RN has to sign out the formula like any other medication. The nurse’s aide can’t just go grab another bottle.”…

Breast-feeding in the first weeks gives a baby a critical healthy start, many medical experts say. It helps the digestive system develop and protects the baby with the mother’s immunities. Nursing also helps the mother recover from childbirth.

But not everyone is convinced. “They make formula for a reason, and the FDA makes sure it’s safe,” said Roxanne Schmidt, whose 14-month-old twins were fed with formula from birth. “Locking it up is just wrong.”

From what I have been told, a lot of women simply cannot breast feed. And others don’t want to, for any number of reasons.

But the Left is trying to make it as hard as possible for them, as part of their unrelenting ‘War On Women.’

This is to get us ready for hospitals not being able to provide things they used to, plain and simple. And yes, some women simply cannot breast feed. My wife was unable and we paid through the freaking nose for two kids to be on formula. The breast milk argument always sounded silly to me, I mean we can easily put whatever is in natural milk into formula, but I would have liekd to save the money! I wonder how long would I have had to listen to the “breast feeding coach” preach to us about how we needed to try harder instead of just feeding my kid had this been going on when my kids were born. And they were born in Massachussets, so it would have been much worse I am sure.

What’s next, hide the pain medication and tell people to “tough” it out?

I can’t believe the morons in NYC have re-elected this ass clown not once but twice after he bent the rules so he could run again. While all of this sucks the people of the Rotten Apple have received the government they’ve chosen. Someone needs to tell these a-holes that elections do have consequences.

So they’re all for giving a baby an early start, by coercion — but it’s fine to maim, tear, burn, and trash a human life if it’s less than six months old. I don’t get it. Nanny Bloomberg has no problem restricting private choices, but he won’t say a word about liberal talking points such as abortion. Libs often assume that sexual freedom means complete freedom. They are oblivious to how taxes, regulations, and intervention of nanny state bureaucrats are trampling on the citizenry. As long as the NYC gay clubs are open all night and Planned Parenthood is five blocks away, freedom is not at risk. But don’t buy a large soda or smoke on a park bench – that’s illegal, evil, a threat to the public good. Because Bloomberg says so.

Yeah the only parenting “choice” you have a right to in the NWO is whether or not to kill your kid. After that, the decisions are not yours.

Sort of makes you wonder when that decision will be taken away…..
