Rush Blames Bush For Olympics Defeat

From The Hill:

Congressman blames Bush for Chicago’s Olympics defeat

By Michael O’Brien – 10/04/09

The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) decision to quickly bounce Chicago’s bid to host the 2016 Olympics reflects "tattered relationships" left behind by former President George W. Bush, one congressman said this weekend.

Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.), who represents a district on the south side of Chicago, commended President Barack Obama’s ultimately unsuccessful work to secure the Olympics for the Windy City, but blamed Obama’s predecessor for the first-round loss in IOC voting on the host of the 2016 games.

"I believe that [Friday]’s action is just the latest example of the cultural breach that still exists between the United States and several leaders of the global community of nations," Rush said in a statement Friday which was not received by The Hill until Sunday.

"[Friday}’s vote by the IOC members reflects the tattered relationships that remain after eight years of the catastrophic reign of the Bush administration," Rush continued. "It will obviously take some time for the Obama administration to continue its important work to repair that breach."

Like many other Democratic lawmakers, Rush thanked the president, First Lady Michelle Obama, and other prominent figures for their efforts on behalf of the city’s Olympic bid.

Rush had encouraged Obama to make the now-controversial trip to Copenhagen on Friday to lobby for the games, a spokeswoman said.

Rush is now working with the city’s "Olympic leadership" to address the spate of violence recently in the city, and will appear with Attorney General Eric Holder and Education Secretary Arne Duncan when they travel to Chicago to discuss that issue this week.

Yes, when I think of "Olympic leadership," I think of people like Bobby Rush.

But we are truly shocked to learn that even Mr. Obama’s failure to get the Olympics for Chicago was Bush’s fault.

What a colossus that Mr. Bush was and apparently still is.

  1. Chicago is one of the most violent & crime infested cities in the United States.

508 people were murdered in Chicago, during 2008 – surpassing L.A. or NY.

    Obviously GW’s fault, too.

Hey. Look. It’s time for another Obama apology tour.

If Bobby Rush is correct, then the following must be true:

    W > O and

    O+O+O = 0

Truly, the democrats are setting up a mythical impenetrable wall that no amount of super-powers will be able to break through. Not even the great and powerful “O”. It’s getting that bad.

And then, of course, the rest of us have to put up with the whining.

What you speak of, Steve, is a psychological problem the democrats have and probably always will. I don’t think I ever heard Reagan, Carter, either Bush or even Clinton rail about anything a previous president has done. Sure, my friends would bring the blame game out when talking politics but up to now only this presidency seems so riddled with “they did it”.

I wonder if it’s just this administration or endemic to the generation in which we now live where blame must be quickly and repeatedly deflected away from the real cause to something that keeps its owner out of accountability. Naturally, of course, I’m talking about the learned behavior of children. “I didn’t do it…..Johnny MADE me do it” and to the ultimate end…”Johnny did it, not me”. But not just merely by lying “I did not have sexual relations with that woman…..Miss Lewinsky”, but lying AND laying the blame on someone else. Using an extrapolation of Clinton’s example, “It was HIM who had sexual relations with that woman…”

Used to be a time when people could easily and quickly recognize such maneuvers. How sad.

These people are incapable of accepting responsibility.

That is the legacy of Affirmative Action.

The country is suffering the consequences.

We will be lucky to survive it.

But in the Olympics fiasco the canary has definitely chirped in front of the entire nation.

  5. Petronius says:

Or perhaps the new American President — having spent the past eight months apologizing for and ridiculing the USA — had something to do with the outcome?

And — who knows — perhaps his insults to Chancellor Angela Merkel and the German nation, to Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Queen Elizabeth, and the Brits, to the Pope, to the Israelis, the Poles, the Czechs, the Canadians, and others may have been a contributing factor?

Tattered relationships, indeed. Yes, one can only agree with Rep. Bobby Rush that, “It will obviously take some time for the Obama administration to continue its important work to repair that breach.”

Just what does Mr. obamas OJT require him to do while he house sits in Washington, D.C.?
He is still on the campaign trail if you ask me.
