Boehner To Sue Obama (But It’s Not About Impeachment)

From The Hill:

Boehner says plan to sue Obama ‘is not about impeachment’

By Russell Berman | June 25, 2014

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Wednesday he would initiate a lawsuit against President Obama on behalf of the House over the president’s frequent use of executive actions that Republicans believe are beyond his legal authority as president.

During his weekly Capitol press conference, the Speaker accused the president of not “faithfully executing the laws of our country” — a violation of his oath of office and the Constitution. But Boehner said the lawsuit was not an effort that would lead to an attempt to remove Obama from office.

“This is not about impeachment,” Boehner said. “This is about his faithfully executing the laws of our country.” …

Even in this long over-due announcement, which we heartily applaud, Mr. Boehner almost sounds afraid of his own shadow.

The House will vote on legislation authorizing the lawsuit in July, Boehner told Republicans in a memo sent later Wednesday…

The Speaker would not say what specific executive actions the House would challenge, and he did not list any in his two-page memo.

Otherwise, it would have been a heckuva lot longer than two pages.

“On one matter after another during his presidency, President Obama has circumvented the Congress through executive action, creating his own laws and excusing himself from executing statutes he is sworn to enforce — at times even boasting about his willingness to do it, as if daring the America people to stop him,” Boehner wrote. “On matters ranging from healthcare and energy to foreign policy and education, President Obama has repeatedly run an end-around on the American people and their elected legislators, straining the boundaries of the solemn oath he took on Inauguration Day.”

Actually, this does suggest some specifics, after all.

A lawsuit could take years to wind itself through the courts and outlast the Obama presidency itself…

‘A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.’

Meanwhile, notice the kind of coverage this is getting from our media guardians. Such as this headline from the Atlantic: ‘Obama Hardly Ever Uses Executive Orders But Boehner Wants to Sue Him Anyway.’ — And to think that some people saw the news media is biased.

  1. I believe it’s past time for the military to step in and take over. However, all government works for OBAMA, not the American people. So, I expect absolutely nothing from them, as they would happily lock every one of us up in Guantanamo before they would move against a dictator.

  2. …, but it’s not about impeachment. Why the hell not? As stated, a lawsuit will take years to wind it’s way through the court system. They impeached Nixon and got him out of office befreo his term was up. I say impeach now. Why wait until he’s had a chance to fortify his position with a private army. Jesus, they’re arming the friggin post office for god’s sake.
