Wait a minute, Boxer always reminded me of someone, especially when it was obvious that she was "diminutive," but I couldn't quite place the alternate identity.

Last night I saw a picture of Danny DeVito, and, Ah Hah, I've never seen DeVito and Boxer together...Can it be?

This arrogant and egotistical witch has accomplished nothing compared to the General. She couldn't serve as his jockstrap. She should be kissing his feet and thanking him for protecting her useless ass. There will come a day when the "gubmint" will find it difficult to find anyone to serve and protect. I'd like to see the likes of this Bawny Fwank, Barbara Boxer or any of those other jerks stand shoulder to shoulder with any of our soldiers under live fire. They'd crawl under the nearest rock like the reptiles they are, whimpering and shaking in fear. We have come to a sad time in the history of this nation. Keep on disrespecting the very people who make it possible for you to drivel you lunatics and you'll be standing alone.

Well, I didn't mean to say it was exactly like a private getting dressed down but the "know your place" kind of mechanism is the same. Essentially. But your point was better stated than mine.

Indeed, it would've been nice to hear a silence and see a glare from the general. In fact, a longer than pregnant pause would've been perfect. Just let her words hang in space for a minute or two.

But for the next several months, we get to experience this level of buffoonery until they can get voted out of office. The true colors show but unfortunately, the sheeple still watch the MSM and believe they are getting not only "the facts" but "all the news" as well. Of course, it's only 20 minutes of "news" not counting the cute story at the end to make everyone go "awwwwww". There's no way that ALL the news can be presented that way.

But seriously, there are a lot of Americans who need awakening and once they see the crap that passes for governance, of which they only hear wisps of, then the tide must surely shift.

I see what you're saying, Rusty, and of course, you're correct. But, I also know some of these guys on the Marine side, and in my wildest dreams, I can't imagine one of them saying, "Yes, Senator." after something like that. Peter Pace, maybe - I don't know him personally, but he was such a genuinely humble guy by all accounts that it seemed tough to ruffle his feathers. A squaring of the shoulders, a pregnant pause, a change of tone, starting the response with simply, "Senator Boxer..." - there are plenty of ways to show that she's treading on dangerous ground. There's no reason a BGen has to let anyone talk to him that way. I don't think it's the same thing as a Private getting yelled at by a superior. This guy has far more years of distinguished service than she will ever have. What it's more like is a 2ndLt trying to yell at a MGySgt.
Maybe Walsh is like Pace and is just unflappable, but wouldn't it be refreshing to see what someone like Gen Mattis would say to her?

11ten, a little inside info.

As per military protocol, a senator outranks any general...and save perhaps in private quarters, a general officer will not dress down or otherwise appear disrespectful to a senator or other government official. It's the chain of command.

Article 888 of the UCMJ:

888. ART. 88. CONTEMPT TOWARD OFFICIALS

Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Transportation, or the Governor or legislature of any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

Humiliating? Yes. Absurd? Yes. Inappropriate on her part? Absolutely. But unfortunately, the general is in the same awkward and uncomfortable position as a private being dressed down by a superior. There's just not a lot he can do....in that context.

I'm sure, though, that he can use his position to later make her life more difficult, should the opportunity arise.

She is a no-class troglodyte who eats mushrooms and bat guano to be sure. But the general did what his training directed. It's a one-way street sometimes. The obvious thing, though is that she made herself look like the boob she truly is. A title snob with more authority than sense. A wise person knows how to use that authority and wouldn't demand to be referred to by any title. It crossed my mind that her whole exposure to the military was that one scene with Jack Nicholson in "A Few Good Men" where he tells Tom Cruise as Lt JG Kaffee to address him as "colonel" or "sir" with the statement "I believe I've earned it".

Boxer may have just been parroting that, thinking that somehow she'll connect with a military mind and establish the pecking order.

I doubt she has any inner-working knowledge of the military and, to be honest, many people get their sense of what goes on in the military from movies and TV shows. Which, of course, is truly sad.

But I'll also bet that's not the only thing she's ignorant of.

As others noted, she certainly didn't call him "General" when she made her demand/request. Somehow I think he's worked a little longer and a little harder to get his title than she has.
Still, I wish this guy had said a little more to her. Where's that military edge?
What our Generals need to know is that military families are counting on them to stand up to these punks in Washington. Women like Boxer don't know what to do with real men - it would have thrown her off completely if he had replied that she ought to give him the same courtesy she was requesting (demanding). We've got all these softies like Mullen running things, and it's getting pathetic. The O side is becoming overly concerned with being politically correct. As stupid as she is, his lack of gumption was equally disconcerting.

catie said: "is this the former White House usher?"

Actually, Gary Aldrich was an FBI agent in the white house, responsible for doing background checks on all WH personnel so they could get security clearances to work there.

Good book, insightful and fair accounting.

As for the "better than thou" thing, it's in all walks of life but it's so unnecessary. Everyone pretty much knows who the high-rollers are. Yet the one who act most snobbishly are usually the ones least deserving.

I find the current incarnation, in the TV world, on "Two And A Half Men" where Charlie and Alan's mother is that way. I could easily see Barbara Boxer playing that role. What's sad, is that if you ask them, they will think they are as nice as you please but if you ask them why they are not very nice to the staff, they will get a bewildered, insulted look in their eyes. The response will be, "Well, I pay them VERY well (probably not) and they all LOVE to work for me (also a no)" And then the kicker, "And good luck trying to find a job someplace ELSE in this economy, ha!"

So, in code they have said they feel they treat them as nice as they feel they warrant and that they have them in shackles since they probably couldn't find work elsewhere. Or, that they are trying to make a living and maybe move up in the world somehow, but not while they work for her.

These same people tip, but not well. Usually less than the common percentage, or, they take out their little card that has the rates on it and then tally how good the service actually was and pay what they "feel" is appropriate.

It permeates into charity as well.

I always find myself over-tipping since I've done those jobs and I find that saying thank you goes only so far. But saying thank you AND handing over some cash, in our society, really says it.

I had ordered some angle iron from a fabrication place. I watched as the guy cut it and stacked it and while I was putting it in my truck, he followed me, a load in hand. I told him that wasn't necessary but when it was all in my truck, I stuffed a 20 in his shirt (the angle iron cost me $100 with all the cuts, complete) and thanked him very much. He was a great guy, interesting to talk to and I wanted to show my gratitude.

I never hear liberals talk of such things. I always find that odd. From the plumbers to the electricians and yes, I know they make good money, mostly. But their insurance premiums are high, their other costs as well, etc. No free lunches out there so what I pay in labor rates and materials, he's paying not that much less.

So, when they help me out...I say thanks. I tip, if I can. Or, I've been known to get a 12 pack of (premium) beer, not the 2 dollars a 12 pack kind of crap.

Partly it's "sales" sure...but the motivation is first to say thanks.

I remember in the USAF, when a pilot left something in the cockpit...that wasn't supposed to be left behind.....and the crew chief returned it...the "going rate" was a case of beer. If the crew chief was underage, then it was a case of Mountain Dew. Nobody ever said a word...it was "just so".

Those days seem to be disappearing.

Or, that they are trying to make a living and maybe move up in the world somehow, but not while they work for her.

These same people tip, but not well. Usually less than the common percentage, or, they take out their little card that has the rates on it and then tally how good the service actually was and pay what they “feel” is appropriate.

It permeates into charity as well.

I always find myself over-tipping since I’ve done those jobs and I find that saying thank you goes only so far. But saying thank you AND handing over some cash, in our society, really says it.

I had ordered some angle iron from a fabrication place. I watched as the guy cut it and stacked it and while I was putting it in my truck, he followed me, a load in hand. I told him that wasn’t necessary but when it was all in my truck, I stuffed a 20 in his shirt (the angle iron cost me $100 with all the cuts, complete) and thanked him very much. He was a great guy, interesting to talk to and I wanted to show my gratitude.

I never hear liberals talk of such things. I always find that odd. From the plumbers to the electricians and yes, I know they make good money, mostly. But their insurance premiums are high, their other costs as well, etc. No free lunches out there so what I pay in labor rates and materials, he’s paying not that much less.

So, when they help me out…I say thanks. I tip, if I can. Or, I’ve been known to get a 12 pack of (premium) beer, not the 2 dollars a 12 pack kind of crap.

Partly it’s “sales” sure…but the motivation is first to say thanks.

I remember in the USAF, when a pilot left something in the cockpit…that wasn’t supposed to be left behind…..and the crew chief returned it…the “going rate” was a case of beer. If the crew chief was underage, then it was a case of Mountain Dew. Nobody ever said a word…it was “just so”.

Those days seem to be disappearing.

Rusty, you're absolutely right on this. I spent one summer in between my junior and senior year working as a "chamber maid" at the Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island, MI. I had been there twice as a kid because my father had two conventions there. The second when I was 14, I decided when I got old enough I wanted to work there one summer. I was talking to someone who was pretty young who had cleaned our room and she said it was a lot of fun, except when those who thought they were better than you passed by. She said her father was a Captain in the Navy and when she'd visit on ship the enlisted would make a space for her dad and her. She said these folks expected the same. I found that to be pretty true the summer I spent there. I also see the same thing in fast food restaurants and not so fast food places.
Is this book you reference, is this the former White House usher?

Incidentally, on her e-mail me page, the list of titles(prefixes) is quite lengthy, but doesn't include "senator".

It does include Mr, Miss, Ms. etc and a plethora of military rank.

http://boxer.senate.gov/contact/email/policy.cfm

I think she should include mine, after all, I am a "Knight In The Fight For Freedom" thus, the title "Sir" should be there.

Every liberal I've ever encountered embraced some form of "identity snobbery". While conservatives generally are content to be quietly proud that they are Irish or German or African (yes there are black conservatives), the liberals suffer from the gene that produces chronic insecurity.

Therefore, even a janitor gets upset when you call him "the janitor". He is the "building maintenance technician" now.

To the conservative, the janitor is no less deserving of respect and polite conversation than the CEO. Often, I am tickled by how this is portrayed on "SCRUBS". They do bring out some interesting points through comedy.

But to a liberal, not only is being a janitor demeaning, it is also beneath them somehow and therefore, needs a cleaning up in title and such to make it less "ikky". Regardless though, the liberal will talk down to the janitor, treat them like dirt and make jokes about them behind their backs.

Every conservative I've ever met, who I've witnessed speaking to someone of (dare I say it) "lower" status in the employment scale, did so with humility and respect for their talents, if not their very existence. I noticed the finest colonels and generals in the military speak to the lowest ranks the same way.

The first time I witnessed this was my father, who made a very good living flying airplanes. But he had also done hard-work jobs in his younger years and was never afraid to pick up a shovel, either. I always admired that quality and try my best to be genuine at all times. After all, I am human too and have also done the hard-work jobs for very little pay. It's humbling and sometimes, it was just nice to be appreciated and treated like a person.

I'll bet if you go down a list of "liberals in power" and could poll their help, you would find them saying some of the most awful things. I say this after reading Aldrich's book, "Unlimited Access" where he outlines what the help said about Bush, Sr vs. "the clintons" .

I have seen it.

Even in line at McDonald's. The conservative, when it's their turn, generally says, "May I please have---"

The liberal...."Gimme a--"

I've noticed this for years. I don't often talk about it. But it's one of the fundamental identifiers of certain types of people. Am I prejudiced? Yes, absolutely. But I base that on behavior, not appearance. Though, sometimes appearance is a good first indicator. Occasionally.

The point here is that the liberals, in an effort to make everything APPEAR to be equal and fair, are achieving just the opposite. The very subject of "hate crimes" comes to mind. It has opened the door to the genesis of the thought police.
